  1. Fabulous Las Vegas Nevada is still here. G
  2. Oh that looks even better up close! I love the M51 with that huge barrel. That Academy kit will be fun. Mine's the Cyber Hobby Orange Box M50, it was a fun one too. G
  3. Looks good! She's sufficiently dry and dusty looking. I need a glass of water now. G
  4. As bad as it is, and it is very, very bad, I feel for the investigators. I now have 33 years in law enforcement and have retired once already. I don't even want to think of being there. G
  5. I was born and raised in St Louis in the heyday of McDonnell Douglas. Everyone knew someone that worked at Mac, in my case it was my scoutmaster. He obtained a F-4 kit, which kit I cannot remember, for every boy in the troop one Christmas. Years later that ugly SOB of an airplane flew cover for us as we evacuated Saigon. I can say we grew up in the same neighborhoods together, and it will always be my favorite. G
  6. I live 35 miles from Nellis AFB, and 165 miles from the infamous black mailbox marking the drive to Area 51. Edwards AFB is 200 or so miles away. Besides those we have a lesser known AFB just a short way north on I 95. Creech AFB is where most of the drones are test flown nowadays. Combine all these with conspiracy theorists and you get the wildest stories this side of the planet. Reverse engineered aircraft, death rays from hell, ways to disrupt power grids, etc etc etc. Power went out on a portion of the Las Vegas strip recently, and some folks just knew the Government was testing "things"
  7. You could back out of Pahrump, Nevada.......... Just sayin'................ G
  8. That's a cute lil' bugger for sure. You have a build to be proud of there. Does the kit still come with those wierd vinyl tracks? G
  9. Naturally I had to go a different direction than most. Black and white Valspar laquer, Tamiya acrylic interior. I scratched the roof lights from Gundam parts and my own cast resin spotlights. G
  10. This is an M4A2 late from The invasion of Peleliu. As the land battle progresed, additional armor protection was added. DML kit, Bronco tracks also used for the additional armor. Tamiya paint. G
  11. I have an aircraft stash of two kits, and one is a Corsair. I'm in. G

    Paint Dilema

During the dark days of relabling Tamiya, I obtained a few MM Acrylic colors for projects. I found the paints airbrush well with MM Acryl thinner, however there are "issues". Until I found a supplier of their thinner, I had to add all sorts of things to the paint to prevent it from drying in the AB cup! I live in the desert and humidity is nil, which contributed greatly. I recently used MM Acryl on a build and this time of year it sprayed well. It was however a beautiful semi gloss finish, naturally I wanted flat. MM Acryl straight from the bottle seems to like just a few drops of MM Acryl
  13. I was a detective in the Bomb and Arson Section of the St Louis PD shortly after a series of mob related car bombings had taken place. I interviewed a few of the gents in prison as my job was to recreate some of the devices for court purposes. One guy was the father of a High School chum of mine. In 1993 the ATF brought us some new evidence in what is known as the Unibomber case. We had no incidents related to Kazinski so they asked us to take a look. Three of us reconstructed one of his devices which, as I recall, is currently displayed at the FBI Academy. Naturally they took credit for it'
  14. Thank You Sir! Silly putty leaves no discernable residue! In fact it goes on and comes off as easy as you please. G
  15. Terry both photos are indicative of an uncured basecoat. The wingtip appears to be the type of cracking/ wrinkling you get when the base is still curing/shrinking and the top coat is set. That's the basis of all "crackle" two stage craft paints. The stabilizer seems to be the type of interaction you get when a fresh top coat "lifts" the previous. Don't ask how I know that but MM enamels can cause this also! My two centavos for what it's worth. G
  16. For my next post, I'll proceed chronologically. After Tarawa the Marines invaded New Britain. They used the M4A1's for the first and only time. This is the Tasca M4A1 Mid Production kit that sort of built itself as I watched. The only real additions are the tool strapa and the tow cable. See, I told you all I'm a Shermaholic. G
  17. Here's another from the old days. We called prisoner conveyance vans "cruisers" thus creating confusion when speaking about our police cars to cops from elsewhere. This is an original MPC '77 Chevy van I had lying around for years. I finally built it after finding correct hub caps. G
  18. I built this about four years ago when I first got back into armor modelling. It's straight from the box. G

    S'hot Kal

Thanks for the compliment John, I appreciate that. The mic is a piece of .28 ga wire with a suoerglue blob on the end. I dipped the wire in a puddle of CA, then hit it with a touch of accelerator. I did this twice to achieve the look I wanted. I painted the wie itself dark gray and used straight black for the blob. It is subtle but that sets the pieces apart. G
