  1. I am obsessed with models of the Shuttle Orbiter as well since I saw it flying by my house atop a 747 back in 1983 returning from the Paris Air Show. First, I made the Monogram 1/72 Model but it was too detailed that I went nuts trying to do it. It's very long as well. Also, I lost the large cargo bay doors which hinge open and closed so I had to re-purchase the kit just to get those doors! The painting of the nose was a nightmare since it is black and the black paint ran into the white of the spacecraft. I masked the part to stay white, but the paint ran anyway. I should have used flat grey co
  2. After 2 weeks of work, I finally thought I completed the Revell 1/144 scale Space Shuttle atop the 747 model. Was I disappointed when placing the Shuttle atop the 747, the Shuttle won't stay! I've tried re-arranging the supplied plastic struts, which are very poorly made and 1 strut broke and had to be glued together. The kit was so well-made otherwise, even featuring over 80 precision decals. I can't believe they made thin "wishbone" shaped struts to hold the Shuttle atop the 747. I studied the genuine arrangement, and the real struts have 3-prongs and not just 2. Of course, the real struts a
  3. Thanks for your reply, I will post where you suggested. I'm surprised that other modellers haven't posted about this model. It is very detailed with over 80 decals so imagine the disappointment that the Shuttle won't stay atop the 747.
  4. I've always liked the Revell B747 kits in 1/144 scale. They fit easily and the fuselage is only 2 parts so less chance of glue spills. I haven't yet made the new B747-8 yet.
  5. Have made commercial airliner models ince 1977

  6. In the 70's and 80's, I made model commercial airliners all the time. I purchased great decals from ATP. I recall they had the decal for the Air India B747, including the pagodas around each window. Now, I have resumed making models, but I believe that ATP has gone out-of-business. Is this true? Does anybody make model decals anymore? Thanks.
  7. I am a big Concorde fan. I just purchased the Airfix 1/72 Concorde model. It looks great but after reading reviews; I am scared to make this. The reviewers say the fuselage pieces just don't fit properly and must be fitted with filler. To boot, the white fuselage has different shades of white, meaning the model must be sprayed white. There are also problems with the retractable nose; it's supposed to lower easily but doesn't, so it must be placed in the horizontal position only. Other problems are mentioned about the cockpit detail, etc. I am truly scared to construct. I have made many models
  8. I made this same model back in 1984 from Revell; it's a Space Shuttle atop a 747. I have re-made the updated model and have the same problem. After completion, the Space Shuttle falls-off the 747. It seems that the supplied struts are poorly molded. I had the exact same problem back in 1984. It seems the rear plastic struts which are shaped like a wishbone, are very weak and easily break. I also learned that the actual struts are supposed to have 3 prongs and not just twoand are made of metal; thus explaining why the Shuttle keeps falling-off. As a result, I am forced to keep the Shuttle separ
