  1. FDCAL do 1/72 rescales of all their 1/144 DC9 decals, which includes a Detail Sheet laser printed. Might be worth an e-mail to them to see if they can supply a 1/72 DC9 Detail Sheet on its own - without an airline livery. Phillipe (who is FDCAL) is always a very helpful guy. Cheers Tim
  2. Painted my 777 the same way as Walter - Voodoo Grey all over - except I over-sprayed the fuselage and engines with clear mica. Looks right to me too Tim
  3. Hi AV O That looks a great build - keep it going. Regarding the decals, I think they are generally accurate for L1011s in the Gulf Air fleet in the late 1980s. The all white fuselage and different arabic script date from the late 1970s / early 80s. As you point out, the main problem is the GULF AIR title which is just wrong. Maybe a decal producer who does custom decals could print you corrected titles. Then, in my view, you would have a perfect build. Just a thought about the decal you've used. I believe the decal sheet you are referring to is Liveries Unlimited A2-026 which was produced
  4. Nazca decals do the new AA schemes. Nazca B737-800 AA I've found them to be good laser printed decals with reliable delivery.
  5. Hi Mike I did a Hong Kong Trader build last year - here is a link to my build B748F Hong Kong Trader. These are the paint mixes I used for the fuselage custom colours: Light Grey - 75% white, 25% light grey plus a dash of mid blue. Light 'Cathay Mermaid' Green - 45% white, 45% light grey, 5% mid blue and 5% dark green. Regarding the Nazca decal, there is an error on the 'Skyline'. The cut-out in the skyline for the large white Hong Kong Trader logo should be different on each side. Its simple to rectify by just cutting and moving a small section of skyline. Hope this helps. Best of luck
  6. 99% of BAC colors are customer specific and have no FS equivalent. Whereas BAC707 is widely used and has an FS number, as Jennings said BAC708 is a customer specific color only used by the Lufthansa group as far as I know. Tim
  7. You could ask your local paint shop to mix you a small pot of FS16515 Boeing Gray 707 using the paint codes: CMYK 25,20,25,0 or RGB 189,193,190
  8. Its a pearlescent paint finish. If you have access to Xtraoolor paints they do Northwest as a combination of base coat X367 Virgin Grey overcoated with X369 Tinted Mica to give the right finish. I tried it some years ago and it seemed OK. Hope this helps Tim
  9. Thanks for the feedback. My grey paint was a mix of Revell silk finish greys - 70% Revell 374 and 30% Revell 371, and overcoated in Pledge 'Klear'. An alternative is Xtracolor X363 Boeing BAC708 Grey which also looks about right. Hope this helps. Tim
  10. I don't normally do vacform kits, but the Welsh MD11 kit is good. I've just finished a Lufthansa Cargo version (see pic). All Lufthansa Cargo MD11s have GE engines. I would recommend getting the Welsh version with resin wings and tail as it makes the build a lot simpler. However, fixing the resin wings to the vacform fuselage needs some reinforcing - I used brass tubing. Best of luck with your build. Tim
  11. Hi Tracy There are 2 possible choices for RR engines: 1) Braz models set of 4 x RB211 747-400 engines - which are still available 2) Get hold of a discontinued Revell Germany British Airways 747-400 kit (RV04204) which has RB211 engines - these kits pop-up on e-bay quite often. Hope this helps Tim
  12. Hi Tracy Great build of a "kit with issues!" Another method for overcoming the weak fuselage problem is to make cross-sections from thick plastic card to use as strengtheners, similar to large vacform kits. I used 3 cross-sections in my build which made a big difference. Below is my drawing of the cross-sections if anybody building a 747-400 wants to try the same method. I forgot to write down the dimensions, but just measure the inside diameter of the fuselage (top to bottom) and scale-up the drawing to match. Although many hate Revell's Boeing 747-400 kit for its inaccuracies, I
