72 and 48 scale A/C. Too many kits to build but they keep me busy. Some armor, MBT's and wheeled vehicles also interest me.
  1. The cool thing about the Hasy T-Bird Phantom, it's an early, non-slatted wing which is perfect for Vietnam "E"'s. Everyone seems to make slatted wing Rhinos. I saw these T-Bird "E"'s at Plattsburgh AFB in '72. Probably the coolest bird the T-Birds ever flew. Cool subject to build. Can't speak for the 48th Hasy kits, but in 72nd, the F-4EJ KAI kits (Two I know of) are the early Phantom E with extra parts to make the JASDF KAI... Kaizo, I think, meaning experimental, also, I think. So if it's available in 48th, go for it. And... Screw the decals! I NEVER use Hasy markings! Way too thick! (Un
  2. Hey all. Newbie here. If you can find a DB (Dave Buttris) conversion for the Italeri B-57B, you'd be able to make a great Can...B2. It was resin, with really nice interior detail, as well as three beautiful MB seats. The transparent nose and fishbowl were vacformed and also pretty nice. It also came with Canberra intakes. A couple of simple cuts and you had a great, and very accurate B2. If you've never seen the DB range, (Mid-late 80's) you really missed out. They were beautiful. C-130, Canberra, RB-57F for the Italeri kit, KC-135... on and on. All 72, though. The range was sold by a shop i
  3. Couldn't agree more with Larry! HB and Trump are great at bringing out 'new' subjects, but always need so many corrections it becomes an expensive build. And the SU 34 from... Revell, would be great. I'd get a couple myself! My $.02 DET1
  4. The Lonestar set is great, and well worth it! Don't worry about not seeing the cockpits as the set includes beautifully molded canopies for all three cockpits. And the capsules are really nice, too. If you want to detail the cockpits and scratch building is, as for me, too much, this is the way to go. Aries makes an exhaust nozzle set for the 58 as well. The decal set from Mike Grant is Beautiful, but my copy had the "U.S.AIR FORCE" and "USAF" printed in black and should be in Insignia Blue. I brought this to Mikes attention, but I don't know the outcome. Hope this helps you.
  5. First, wonderful build. You did an excellent job! I thought, as an ex-F-111 crewchief, you might want to make a few corrections, none of the mistakes are your fault. HobbyBoss went out of their way to create mistakes on this kit that need correcting. This should be no problem for you as you're obviuosly an accomplished builder. First, change the placard you have to an F-111E. It's not a "D". It is marked as an F-111E from the 20th TFW at Upper Heyford, England, though some E's were assigned to Cannon before the D's arrived... Next, the radomes on 111's had four latches, two on top and two on
  6. That has to be the nicest Luftwaffe scheme I've ever seen applied to a model! Absolutely beautiful! I'm expecting the SWS 219 shortly, and I HOPE I can do the finish NEARLY as well as you've done here! Awesome job!!! DET 1
  7. C-2A Greayhound... And I thought the Intruder was ugly!!! But you pulled off a great build and beautiful finish! (Not so ugly afterall....) Really well done. Very impressed!

Have to agree with Flyingfortress. I may be missing something in the photos, but I think it looks great! Don't be so hard on yourself. Very nice model!
  9. To answer that question, those are the PhotoFlash ejectors for night photography. And, btw, great build, beautifully finished!
  10. I've built 2 DML kits as well as the Trump 48th kit. One glaring problem with all these kits is that they molded the kit to have the wings come straight out from the fuselage ala the F 111. The SU 24 had a distinct droop to the wings and must be modified. The wing gloves are the problem. Nothing needs to be done to the wings. Its not difficult and really adds to the overall look of the finished kit. Its worth the effort. BTW, the NeOmega cockpit in 1/72 is a great fit and looks great when finished in the DML kits. One final note, the DML releases were of the early Fencer C with the shorter
