Mstor. Looks like Photobucket isn't working like it was last time I posted on this forum. What website are people posting their pics from now?

Paints for WWII USN Ships

Ok. I bought the Colourcoats, but man, were they expensive! I understand that Colourcoat paints have been discontinued. Is that true? Are the Model Master equivalents sold on scalehobbyist.com accurate? Thanks. -
Hi! I'm just getting into ship modeling and am trying to figure out the right paints to buy for WWII USN ships. After some research, I've found that the Navy standard colors were Ocean Gray (5-O), Navy Blue (5-N), Haze Gray (5-H), Sea Blue (5-S), Light Gray (5-L), and Deck Blue (20-B). I'd prefer to go with Gunze Mr Color, but will consider other brands if there isn't a good Mr Color equivalent. Can anyone recommend the best Mr Color matches? Also, I see that Testors Model Master has these specific colors in their line (5-O is their No. 2157 for example). Are these good matches?

1/48 Hasegawa F/A-18D Hornet
ex-USMC_Hornet_WSO replied to ex-USMC_Hornet_WSO's topic in The Display Case
You paint the base colors (grey and white) on both sides of the doors, then you Future them. Once the Future is dry, you take a long thin brush and paint the red edges with enamel. If you mess up and you get red on the sides, simply take a small Tamiya q-tip (I like the extra small, triangular ones), soak it in paint thinner, and rub the red paint off holding the q-tip at an angle to the edge so that it doesn't touch the red edges and just wipes it off the sides. The Future protects the base coat. That's it! Good luck! -

Finally finished after 17 months! A 1/48 scale model (Hasegawa kit) of an F/A-18D Hornet of VMFA(AW)-225 Vikings. This was the CO's jet from 2003-2004. Aftermarket includes Black Box cockpit, Sierra Hotel intakes, Eduard PE, Wolfpack F/A-18C/D Late Type Update Set, Royal Resin wheels, Brassin AMRAAM, and SuperScale decals. Vagabonds once, Vikings forever!

Trying to find decals for my Tamiya 1/48 Avro Lancaster B I/III Special. I see Kitsworld makes decals for the 1/48 BI and B III, but not for the 'Special' versions. These versions were modified to carry the Grand Slam bomb (B I Special) and the "Upkeep" bouncing bomb for the dam busting raids (B III Special). Does anyone know of any manufacturer making sheets for these?

Hasegawa 1/48 A-4E Top Gun

Hi BP, I used the kit decals. They worked fine. Cheers, Marcos -
Thank you, Skids72. I appreciate the advice. I'll be sure to post my Grey Ghost when it's done.

Wow, amazing job! I'm working on this kit right now. I'm doing the Grey Ghost (PAV-2). I have a construction question if you don't mind. I'm getting ready to install the gear wells into the lower fuselage. I'd like to leave the gear struts off until the paint job is done on the aircraft, but I'm not sure if the struts can be installed after gluing the wells into the fuselage. Did you do this?

First build I post on this forum. Hasegawa 1/48 A-4E Top Gun Edition. Built out-of-the-box except for Eduard PE. Kit decals. Enjoy.

Primer required prior to spraying Gunze Aqueous?
ex-USMC_Hornet_WSO posted a topic in Tools 'n' Tips
I'm new to Gunze Aqueous paints. I'm used to MM Acryl, which MUST be sprayed on a primed surface to avoid peeling and lifting when masking. Does Gunze Aqueous need to be sprayed on a primed surface as well or does it stick well to bare plastic? -
Using Gunze Sangyo Aqueous
ex-USMC_Hornet_WSO replied to ex-USMC_Hornet_WSO's topic in Tools 'n' Tips
By Mr. Thinner, do you mean the Mr. Color Thinner by Mr. Hobby? -
I've been using Model Master Acryl for the past year. Just started using Gunze Sangyo Aqueous for the first time because I heard that this was the best acrylic paint out there. Can anyone tell me how to thin it other than by using the Gunze thinner, which I do not have? Any other tips on using this paint? Do I need to add anything to it in order to airbrush it? Thanks!

Metal Landing Gear for the Revell F-14

Yeah, I may be over-reacting. I just want this baby to last! I thought I may have damaged a main gear wheel axle while trying to squeeze on the wheel, but it will probably be ok.
