Progress has been quite quick on this one, I have maanged to get some colour onto the resin parts! just a bit more detailing and weathering. I am particularly pleased with the exhaust cans where I have used Tamiya powders to get that burn effect! -

So starting with the Aires Tub and exhaust cans. They are superb1 I have only had to do minor surgery on the fueslage to get the tub to fit (removeal of the uinsturment cowles and thinning down the side lips) The biggest challenge was to transfer the cieling of the front wheel well, but it turned out to be quite straigt forward using my handy dremel! -
Welcome to my latest project: the Academy 1:48 F14A Grumman Tomcat 'Sundowners', limited edition. Now I know that this kit has come into some critisicm regarding the nose, but having researched the other kits available they all have thier own problems, so I went with the kit with one of the most striking schemes out there; and to be honest if it looks like an F14 then thats good enough for me! Like most of my builds I have upgraded the cockpit with the excellent Aires resin tub and photo etch along with thier exhaust cans. Other wise it will be straight out of the box.

I am making some nice progress with the diorama so I thought I would try out my thoughts for positioning...... (not including the 17 figures I have to work out where to put!)
-
Thanks for all your comments..diorama pictures coming up soon I hope
-
A labour of love! After 8 months Sally B is finsished! I have added a life raft and finished the weathering, sealing everything with a satin coat. So now onto the dioaram:=- 18 figures, 1 follwo me jeep, 1 x crw jeep, 1x refueller, 1x bomb tractor with 2 x D type trollies, along with a few airfield accessories to bring it alive!!

jOEL, tHANKS FOR THE OBSERVATION, i CAN ASSURE YOU IN THE 'FLESH' IT LOOKS FINE, i CAn see why you have suggested it from the pics.

Thanks Sean, I am quite nervous as I really dont want to over do it, but having her set in a WWII diorama she needs to have some 'dirt' on her.
-
So onto weathering and wash..quite difficult to do with raised rivetts,a nd Im not so sure about the exhaust stains either....ce la vie!

And some final images before weathering

Lots of progress this week. The engine cowlings have been done, using my own mask 9which I am particularly proud of, Vallejo Air paints used for the majority of the fuselage and I gave AK interactives True metallic paste ago, and I have to say I am rather impressed by it! So, the paintwork complete, a coat of goss and decals applied.....
-
She is now looking like a B17! Primer and pre shading completed, lower fuselage done and yellow wing tips and tail completed! Just the bare metal mid section and olive drab to do!
-
Great progress made over the holidays, the fuselage is now closed up, it was a bit of a trial and I ended up using quite alot of putty to make things right, but I am very happy with the result. I also finished off the quick boost engines and found a delightful Signiofier generator (put put) used for starting the starter batteries!
