  1. Cockpit is closed now. Cut the masking tape for windows, and tried to fit glass, what a nightmare. Nothing fits, so lots of reparations,sanding... First stage finnish, still lot of work to make this descent. Also, did my own glass plates for TEOC ,because kit ones are wrong shape. And you can see 2 more went plates, from Eduard PE. Work in progress with TEOC, shaped front, painted (first stage) and added mirrors.
  2. Very nice ,it will be another great build from you,as usuall :) Pozdrav iz Hrvatske !
  3. So much work, but really not much to show you. Spend lots of time to blend those vents more, so again sanding, repair lines,rivets... I think I done all rivets 10 times, again and again :)/> And still more to come. But,let me show you few things I'm working on. First, end of the plane , as you can see, when I cut those elevons, stuck with large gaps. So I need to fill this. Used plastic plates and styrene filler. This is ok for now,but still need to do cosmetic work on this, and redo panel lines and rivets. (did I mention reriveting hundred times) :)/> And just to mention, I also did
  4. PE work will always be fiddly, but IMHO vents are the worse case scenario. As you suggested,I will also love more if the whole panel was provided,it be easier that way. But, with SR-71,apsolutly everything you do is complicated :) Seam lines, rivets, gaps, fit issues, reshaping, etc. If you want relativly accurate model, you need to mentaly be prepared to lots of work, lots of issues, and need to have tons of patience. Looking at some other builds, when people have new tooled model, lots of resin, accurate bluprints, I feel like I stuck in 19th century with my build :) It will never look good
  5. About PE vents... On the kit this vents looks bad, poor molding and filled. So, Eduard provides ,among else, PE plates to upgrade the look of the kit. But, Eduard PE are bigger,so you need to completly remove plastic, and with lot of effort try to make the holes the same dimensions as PE parts. In reality, this is a nightmare. Becuase you also need to bend it,and make all fit. If your question was,are some sort of support under the PE plates ,to put it on,answer is no. They are holding just with sides.
  6. Will this thing fly when done ? :) :) Amazing job my friend !
  7. Here you can see working on filling the gaps. I do it by inserting styrene rolls and styrene filler (styrene pieces mixed with Tamiya Extra Thin). Then lots of sanding. At this stage is pretty ok,but as you can see, more work needs to be done to achive seamless area, and also, repairs to ruined scribed details and rivets.
  8. Start to make changes on tertiary doors. When parked,no hydraulics,so bottom tertiary doors are closed (gravity) :) To achive that,I need to cut the original part and add doors. At the moment it looks like this. Still need to scribe it,so doors will be represented instead of flat surface. Finnaly I closed top and bottom halfs. Only rear segment. What a nightmare :) No matter how I tried to dry fitting it, the fit is horrible. I will say it again, this SR-71 kits are rubbish. We really need some new tooled kit. But, as from start of the build, I need to correct it. Lots of work
  9. Thank you. As I'm aware, there is no PE sets for 1/48 at the moment.
  10. More progress... Must say, with this one,my patience was on the edge. I strongly advise to think twice before decide to go with PE vent plates. It was really PITA, because first you need to cut the holes, try to make it perfect as you can,so PE parts fits ok. In reality, no matter how you think you did great job, when you actually glue the PE plates, you become aware how you got wrong. You need to place it right, bend it right, glue precisly so you don't fill grilles with glue, etc. Anyway, after few hours, and ruined skinny stick (because you sand PE,glue and plastic) , I somehow did it. It
  11. No Archer rivets on this build, just ordinary pin work.
  12. Nothing fancy, just a few work details... As you can see,I cut the all 4 elevons ,they will be in down position, representing parked airplane. Lots of work to make it descent after cutting... Second, worked on fuel intake,as originaly was poor. Still need to add another part inside the hole. And add some rivet details on exhaust, just like on the real plane. Kit parts are completly flat.
  13. Believe me,I also wonder how will I get this done :)
  14. Thank you Darwin! I was able to see your comments when others building this bird, and find it very helpfull. Please continue to follow this build and be free to point at any mistake I do. And I will try to correct it. The kit is 1/72,not accurate at all, proportions are wrong, but with a little help from all of you, I will try to do much as I can. To achieve 100% accuracy we need new tooled kit, but I hope I can make decent bird from this also.
  15. Start to work on exhaust. On the kit, exhaust is wrong, because is to shallow ,have '2D' rings, not much details... so I need to correct this. Image of the stock exhaust First, removed those 2D rings ,and make bigger hole,as you can see on the right piece Then,I need to create deeper space, because first ring starts more inside then on the original kit. Use some plastic tubes, and add mesh to create some details inside the tubes. After that, need to make rings. Fiddly job must say, in 1/72 everything is so small, and it's hard to make descent shape od wires, spaces, gluing all that...
  16. Working a little... Start to battle ventilation plates, which on original kit looks bad. After 2 evenings,I manage to cut all of the main plates. It will be replaced by the Eduard PE. Must say, very hard work, because Eduard PE have different dimensions,so I need to cut extremly precise,so PE plate fill fit 'perfectly' and ,let's hope so, no seams will be evident on the edges after painting. (hope a little fill and sand will help) On the image, you can see cut work Also,I decide not to rebuild rear wheel well,as many does on they builds, because I think it will look ok when I done all t
  17. Metal guide is part of Dreammodel template set,you can find it on ebay.
  18. Thank you all for the support. All of this was easy, real work will start soon. Because fit on this kit is horrible,so it will be challenge to make it seamless without destroying all that panels and rivets. And not to fill rivets with primer an paint. Also, to correct front / nose will not be easy, some serious work needs to be done. Plus all the rest. But,one step at the time, let's hope for the best :)
  19. Working a little on vertical stabilizers... On the right, you can see original kit part,no details, wrong,so I correct it,as you can see on the left. It's not perfect, but for 1/72 it will pass :)
  20. Hi, I got 1/48 Hobby Boss F-14B,and pretty much all the goodies for it. Only thing I don't have,is aftermarket exhaust. Looking online, can't find any. Aires offer exhaust for F-14A. This is I suppose a no no. For F-14B I only see Aires for Hasegawa. Did anyone tried to fit those to HB kit ? Thank you all for the help.
  21. Great work, wish you all the best with it.
  22. Working on front underside. Just a little scribing and riveting on the front, much more to do. Few corrections, first I remove ridiculously shallow front wheel well, then work on cameras. You can see here wrongly positioned windows, and new placement for it. Also, subtle, but you can see differently shaped windows (TEOC and OOC),as I correct it. Work in progress You can see here how I fill wrong windows and make 2 new ones. I will go with only TEOC,as this is usuall configuration in mission flights. OCC will be just closed plates, as they always remove glass when not used.
  23. @erik Italeri (and others) made some kind of mix between A-12 and SR-71. Shape of the front end is A-12,but too long. Notice also,it's not just the nose,as many modellers mentioned, but also area under cockpit. If you correct just the nose, shape will still be wrong. You need to correct it all the way,as I show on the picture. This is most prominent, but overall shape of the plane is also wrong. Not critical tho, but area between engines is too compressed. But in the end, with a little corrections you can make pretty descent SR-71. I hope it will look ok in the end,so much work to do yet
  24. @rom Yes,1/48 also have wrong shape. I'm not aware of any official SR-71 bluprint, but people manage to make pretty accurate drawings. When you look at this drawings and reference photos, you can make very close shape.
