I had a friend who died in that -58C pictured on his site. They hit a sand dune under NVG's at NOE. So please be reverent of the fallen.

We used to carry the radios all the time in OH-58's. You use them when you are in a holding area waiting to crank up and move forward to your battle positions. Saves on helicopter batteries.
