  1. Thanks guys, much appreciated :) Learning to drive in a supercar is very apt! I've mainly built trucks in 1/25th scale and fabricate everything bar the tyres on them now, but going back to planes after 30 years is very refreshing, and a bit intimidating too! I honestly feel like i'm in pre-school again! I'm also doing a 1/72 Space Shuttle. I'm doing it as the Atlantis orbiter, and i've printed out each individual tile, and even with different serial numbers on each one (took almost a month to do!). It'll have a pair of scratch built SRB's and the ET as well. Then there's a 1/12th scale '69 Cam
  2. This plane is the first plane i've built since about 1980, and boy have they come a long way. I'm realising now, that choosing the Tamiya 1/32 P51D as my first plane getting back into it, that a hell of a lot of kits are not going to come up to this one's level. Just looking at the 1/32 Tamiya F14A Tomcat is not up to that level, then again i love detailing and fabricating things anyway. This one's straight from the box with markings from the 351st Fighter Squadron that i did up on the laser printer, plus a bit of weathering, maybe too much?
  3. Bang for buck, the Paasche VL is an awesome tool. I've had mine for 18 years using it at least once a week the whole time and it's still got another 15 years in it yet. If using the fine needles just keep a few spares as they're dead easy to bend and good for a stirring stick after that. I also tend to replace the hose every 3 years because once the rubber starts to get a little brittle those little bits of black rubber will sure as hell wind up your model! Just that and throw a seal kit at it every 5 or so years.
  4. I love building cars and aircraft in big scales and this old Revell Plymouth Funny Car was no exception. The chassis on this one is pretty much as Revell intended it with the exception of the rear body mounts/hinges. I just re-manufactured it in the same diameter plastic rod, but instead i sleeved it all in alloy tube and installed gussetts and braced it. The wheelie bars as well have been scratchbuilt. The rear wheel drums have been drilled out along with the rear rims and 1mm brass bots were fitted to the drums which enables the wheels to bolted on. Not diffucult and worth the effort. On
  5. Thanks Don, i'll grab a can of that AS-16. You're right Darren, it's not quite in the same league as the P51D kit but what aftermarket photo-etch/detail sets would you recomend to bring it to life a bit more? Evan.
  6. These are decals i've ordered; 1/32 Scale, BuNo 160414, VF-84, Jolly Rogers, CVW-8, USS Nimitz, (CVN-68), 1981
  7. Got a new Academy 1/32nd scale F16CG Block 40 #12106 for sale. Box has been opened but that's it, all parts bags are still sealed and box is in perfect condition. I'm in Australia so contact me for any shipping prices outside of Oz (within Australia is $20.00) Asking $90.00AUS for the kit and it is on eBay at the moment; http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/281308026196?ssPageName=STRK:MESELX:IT&_trksid=p3984.m1555.l2649
  8. Hi all, well i've been building models since about 1978, though for 99% of that time it's been trucks and cars in 1/25th scale that i've built. Then a month or so ago i bought one of Tamiya's 1/32 P51D Mustang kits for something a bit different and was blown away by just how good this kit is. Seeing as the Mustang is almost done and dusted i went out yesterday and got a Tamiya F14A Tomcat, once again in 1/32nd scale. Ordered a set of the Jolly Rogers decals from CAM Decals yesterday as well, but i need to know exactly what colors were used on the JR F14A's and preferably in Tamiya colors. Any
