  1. For my Academy 1/35 MH-60L I plan on buying RB metal barrels for the M134 miniguns. The instructions also show machine guns mounted on the rear doors; should these be there and if so what type of machine gun are they?
  2. I tried using odorless mineral spirits to strip enamel and now the plastic is soft/partly melted. And no I didn't let it soak/sit. I just used q-tips to strip the paint and then washed it with dish soap.
  3. It's definitely Mr. Metal Color and not old stock. I have several of the shades along with Mr. Color paint.
  4. How do you get rid of the Simple Green smell after a long soak in it?
  5. I have both Mr. Metal Color and Metalizers and they are different. Mr. Metal Color is thicker, can be brushed on, and needs to be thinned for airbrushing. Mr. Color Super Metallic I've heard is similar to Alclad and Metalizers.
  6. Nitromethane is used as fuel in RCs and Top Fuel dragsters. I imagine the debonder based on nitromethane has a much lower concentration and has some additives. The main chemical in Goo Gone and similar products is petroleum distillates a.k.a. naptha and similar to mineral spirits. They mainly add citrus oil to cover up the smell and make you think it's environmentally friendly. I use mineral spirits to remove labels and stickers that a soak in hot water won't touch. Super Clean, Purple Power, etc. won't harm polystyrene and works well for stripping most model paint, though, there are ea
  7. Is it thin and run everywhere and smell a bit fishy? I think it may be a nitromethane based debonder. I've been looking for a nitromethane based debonder since Hobby Lobby stopped carrying one. It works much better than acetone to remove CA in my opinon.
  8. I want to buy any boxing of Eduard's 1/48 P-38. I doubt Eduard will ever replace the missing parts in my P-38 so I'm wanting to buy another one and hopefully find someone able to cast new ones for me.
  9. Apparently only the first request per customer is free. After that you have to pay. I don't mind paying for replacement parts, but $19 flat rate shipping for them is absolutely ridiculous. I won't be buying from Eduard until they change their replacement parts policy.
  10. Eduard wants me to pay $19 shipping for a replacement canopy so I will scrap my Hellcat if I cannot get one. From any of the Eduard 1/48 F6F Hellcat kits, I need canopy part H7. The kit comes with H7 and H8; H8 is for the F6F-3 and H7 is for the F6F-5. If you have a F6F-3 kit please let me buy the unused canopy H7 from you.

  12. The cockpits are simple and there are several ejector pin marks throughout them, but I only had to remove two from the P-51B and both were raised so no putty was needed. There are more ejector pin marks to deal with on the surface of the oil radiator outlet. The gunsights in both kits aren't very good so I'll be replacing them with Quickboost ones. Here's how all the parts (sans the gunsights) look before paint.
  13. Was it just the P-51D that had its wings puttied, or did they do it to the P-51B as well?
  14. Anyone have a 1/48 round Spitfire mirror to spare? I need one for my P-51. If you have a Tamiya Spitfire kit it's part D13. Any other one will do as well. EDIT: I found the parts I'm looking for.
  15. Use a wire instead. It's much easier and more accurate and precise and much easier. You can reuse the wire too, by scraping the CA off or rubbing it off with acetone.
  16. I'm in need of Spitfire mirrors for both of them. If you have one or two you could let go of let me know. I'd be willing to trade the Moskit exhaust for another P-51 kit.
  17. I'm in need of two 1/48 Spitfire mirrors for my P-51s. If you have one or two you wouldn't mind letting go of let me know. Or are there any aftermarket ones out there? EDIT: I found the parts I'm looking for.
  18. No, Mr Hobby Aqueous Color are acrylics. They are alcohol based acrylics and you can thin them with Tamiya acrylic thinner, Mr.Hobby Aqueous Thinner, or isopropyl alcohol. Mr. Hobby Mr. Color paints are lacquers and you can thin them with Tamiya lacquer thinner or Mr. Color Thinner, but the best thinner to use is Mr. Color Leveling Thinner because it slows the drying time and allows it to self level. You can use hardware store lacquer thinner to clean up, but I would never use it to thin Mr. Color paints. See here for the differences between the labels. You should be careful if you want t
  19. Any tricks to painting/masking canopies? The Eduard masks are as much as a pain to apply as it is to apply masking tape and cut it. Liquid masking compounds aren't an option for me.
  20. I hope everything sorts its self out. I'm reluctant to use USPS anymore after having not received several items and other items taking way longer than they should have. Personally I'd never mail away for prescriptions no matter how much cheaper it would be. It's too risky as to how long it will take and a prime target for theft. If you do run out, call your doctor and see if they can write a new prescription. If your doctor is closed go to a pharmacy and talk to the pharmacist, not a tech, about an emergency supply to get you through the weekend. Just note that they won't do this for con
  21. I've never seen posts telling someone not to build it or posts saying shut up and build it. Perhapes you could quote some for me. I've only seen posts saying "it's inaccurate so I won't buy it" and "it looks like an x to me so I'll buy it." It seems to be that the polarizing debate is between "rivet counters" and "non-rivet counters" and it happens regardless of the kit involved. Rather than posts telling someone not to build it or to shut up and build it, the posts end up being a flame war of ad hominems between the two polar opposites trying to justify their opinion with no mention of th
  22. The internet is full of information, much of which is valuable, but the valuable has been drown out by that which is not and that has driven people to narcissism, egotism, and sedentary lifestyles. The same is true of television, but it has been stripped of informative shows and is now filled with mindless entertainment, promises of easy solutions to our problems, and 24/7 "news." "In regard to propaganda the early advocates of universal literacy and a free press envisaged only two possibilities: the propaganda might be true, or it might be false. They did not foresee what in fact has happen
