Thank you, guys!

A question: For Mitja's low vis scheme, what are paints ( brand and number) that were used? I like the slightly bluish tint of his greys.
Thanks in advance.
Actually we both used same paints - Mr.Paint Medium Grey, Dark and Light Ghost grey. The major difference was me using the black surfacer as primer, while Mitja used grey one, which created some difference in the finished look.

Beautiful Finnish MiG! I had Zvezda kit but sold it, as I was anticipating Eduard will release it 😞

Thank you, Frank!

In December, one of the guys in a modelling group I am part of, gave an idea - let's do a "One week wonder" group build - you've got the first week of 2024 to start and finish a kit from your stash. I was up for the challenge and picked up HobbyBoss' easy kit F-84. It's not a bad kit per se and it has a few weak points but for a price for around 5€/$, it's hard to complain.
Decals come from Hi-decals and represent one of the 34 of Imperial Iranian Air Force F-84Gs.

Just a simple stretched sprue.

Thank you, Niels!

About a year ago, me and my buddy Mitja decided, we should build the same kit from our stash but do it in our own ways - we picked GWH F-14D in 1:72 and picked VF-101 Grim reapers squadron, me going high vis, Mitja low vis. There was some aftermarket used - I used metal pitot tube, resin wheels and burner cans, while Mitja went with wheels and ejection seats. For the purposes of my vignette I also used excellent Reedoak figures.
My vignette is called "Last season, baby!" and shows preseason photo shoot of one of the two display aircraft for the last Tomcat airshow season in 2004.

I was happily patiently waiting for this aircraft, got it still warm after release at Moson and after that followed more than 4 months of arduous work, trying to stick the parts together to look like something and got very close to binning it a few times. But I persevered and here she is. The build article is in the In Progress section of the forums and the full gallery and article on my page:

Weapons:
missiles are a nightmare to build - nothing wrong with them, really, but just for example, the little R-60s are made out of 13 parts each plus over 20 stencil decals. The larger R-24s are a little better construction wise, but again many decals slows the build down. They look good though in the end!
Landing gear:
It is a complex affair on the real aircraft and the same goes with the model. While the gear struts have nice secure locating positions, great care must be taken attaching all the landing gear covers and their associated actuator arms.
Wheels:
I have to say I am very disappointed in this area. The plastic ones look good, but I've decided to up the ante a bit with Clearprop's resin ones, just to get that little bit more of detail into the build. Unfortunately that was a mistake. Resin has shrunk during curing and the separate wheel hubs were of smaller diameter than the holes in the tyres; I managed to hide the resulting gaps a bit with the main wheels, but front ones were unusable and I ended up using plastic ones. Also the locating holes were of smaller diameter than the plastic pegs on the struts, while the main struts have a "key-hole" like peg, that enables correct positioning of the hubs, but the resin ones have just a hole and you need to modify the parts.
Anyhow, just a few more details left to finally finish this build! -
I agree with Ken - by using motion blurred base you are implying at a fast scene at low level. Any clouds in this case would be further away and not as blurred if it all due to the distance of a subject.

Your Flogger is looking great. Very nice weathering. Looks way bigger than 1/72.
Thanks mate!

Thanks rom!

Hvala Mario!
Again playing with oil paints, I've faded and distressed the plain look of pale blue grey undersides... Some streaking was added and as you can see, the wheels assembly has started.

I liked the previous result of the oil paint rendering and though I could push it even further for more fading. Even though it is time consuming, I am really starting to love this technique.

she's such a beaut! can't wait to start mine!

Stunning work on the freehand camo Seb as always! After all these years, i have yet to learn/master that... Decals really tied everything together as well, and love all the tiny stencils all over the frame. Regarding the 1/144 XB-70, it is this one; https://armorymodels.com/product/1-144-xb-70-valkyrie-us-experimental-supersonic-strategic-bomber/
Good paint, good airbrush and lots of painting is the recipe for doing it 😉
With decals applied and everything sealed in with an excellent VMS Satin Varnish it is time to play with oils. If you are following this build from the beginning you might have noticed that I didn't use any of the preshading or black basing I would have normally used. That is, because I decided to create all the weathering and paint fading using oil paints. I admit it is a time consuming job that takes time and patience but at the same time gives you total control over the final outcome. I am using Abteilung502 and Oilbrusher paints combined with VMS Universal Weathering Carrier as a thinner. This is where I am at right now and the weathering is not finished yet. -

The time zone issue is already understood, but once someone starts something, others will follow and create their own groups. The idea would be to schedule it a few weeks ahead of time so everyone can make time to attend. At some point the idea would be to make a regular calendar date for every month if it works out and people attend.
I don't want to be misunderstood - I fully support any and every incentive to keep the channel alive!

We should try to schedule a monthly meeting on the site. Maybe a Sunday night video chat at the end of each month, that way we can show what we are building or finished or ask questions regarding tips and techniques on how some of us handle certain building issues and such. Just some ideas.
Those are all nice ideas, the only issue I see is the difference in time zones. I will open up a #suggestions thread on the channel for such things and #announcements for easier scheduling of possible video presentations and such.
Glad to see the membership is slowly rising as well.

Decals time! Decals for this kit were printed by Decograph. The printing is great, vibrant opaque colours, no offset noticed and the resolution is also high - the tiny stencils are almost readable. The carrier film is really thin which is good and bad - when they go down they just become one with the surface without the need for decal softening solutions. The bad side is, that they have a nasty tendency to fold on themselves. It is not a big problem with the larger decals like bort numbers and stars, but applying stencils was quite a challenging job and I have to admit, there are several missing because of that. I also experienced a weird thing with a few of them - they wouldn't release from the backing paper completely - they would cling to the paper at one tiny point and trying to move them around, just stretched the decal film like it was made out of rubber but to no avail. Luckily there was just few decals that were causing me such problems and after a couple hundred or so, I guess I can be excused missing a few 😄

Hey everyone! It has been suggested that I should start a new topic for added visibility.
I've set up the unofficial ARC Discord server. Invite link: https://discord.gg/8M8fcRWaMy
There's a few of us already chatting away, live video chat was also tested, as well as sharing photos of our works etc.
For those unfamiliar with Discord - it's a free to use app, that enables live text chat, easy sharing of photos as well as voice and video chats.
You can use it in browser but I recommend downloading the desktop or smartphone/tablet app.
Looking forward to see you there.

Clearprop provided a plentitude of really nice camouflage schemes with this kit - a Soviet 4-tone scheme, a Czech and Czechoslovak one as well as East German one... And in other boxings attractive North Korean and Cuban ones amongst others. I was kind of on the edge of choosing between Soviet and Czech ones and decided I might do Czech MF sometime in the future and so I went with the Soviet option of "white bordered 31" from the 821st IAP. The camo was free hand painted using my trusty old Harder & Steenbeck Airbrush Evolution Silverline with MR. Paint lacquers as usual!

Just registered on Discord today. Ron (Bashace) and I just did a video chat on it for a about an hour. So it works pretty good. We plan on doing build nights on it where we get a group of us to log in and just chat while we build. We were also playing with the idea of possibly doing group builds on it as well.

Oh! I didn't expect that such things would be happening so fast, but yeah, that's exactly the thing Discord enables you to do - interactive chat room - I don't see it as a replacement for the forums but more like an interactive real time extension of it.
Good ideas and glad it was tested!

they did that fence design on their earlier 17s and from my experience with the M3, it might not be the best solution. I remember I had quite some clean up to do.
