The real problem is getting payments to Russia companies as we have blocked all western payment systems from working-

There is a payment system, that works in a similar way to paypal, that I've seen several Russian modelling companies using now. The name escapes my mind though.

Fantastic work on both kits.   Love the paint and weathering.

    Thank you!

Looks great!  I suggest a Midway TBF or TBD now 😉

can you describe how you have it that weathered look?

Too many other projects in queue to start on them. But I'll probably build another TBD sometime in the future, in a dive, releasing the bomb and all weathered up!

As for the weathering - not much. I just did light postshading with base blue colour + some lower grey and if the effect seemed too pronounced, blended it with diluted top blue grey. Other than that, a little bit of oils just to pop up some panel lines and tie together the markings and the paint.

  3. I am no expert on details of BoB fights, but I've heard of this encounter many times before so I hope this helps. It is a simulator reenactment based on historic data.

Also check this page and scroll down to Battle of Britain: https://military-history.fandom.com/wiki/Werner_Mölders

There are several pilots named which Mölders shot down, so I guess finding info on their Spitfires should be much easier.

  4. I have finished both engines for the duo this week.

Wildcat's P&W R-1830 Twin Wasp is nicely done and you even have exhaust pipes at the back, although they are of same length and don't reach the front cylinder row. The electric wiring, the ring and spark plug cables are made of photo-etched parts, are extremely thin and can hardly be seen in the photo.

Dauntless' Wright R-1820 Cyclone engine is also nicely moulded, however, there is no electric wiring provided, so I created it using various diameter lead wires. Tedious work but in the end, I think it was more than worth it.

  5. Been flying MSFS for various virtual airlines since Covid struck and restricted my travelling around the world. Not the same, but I've managed to "see" a lot of world this way and accumulated over 700hrs of "flying" time in MSFS alone. Flying mostly CRJ-900 and FBW's A320neo and a little bit of 330-900 for long distance flights. I am on the fence of buying the Fenix 320ceo and waiting for PMDG's 737-800.

But my main love still remains in the DCS World, F-14 in VR.

I found that site fascinating with all the information available, especially the after action reports.  The people that made the most recent Midway movie used a contact at Midway Roundtable as a resource, yet they still put bombs under the wings of the TBD Devastator's on the film ...

BTW, maybe a useless fact in terms of modeling.  Thach flew two planes, "23" on the escort mission, and "1" on the sortie to defend the USS Yorktown.  I built my F4F-4 as Tom Cheek's plane on the escort mission, his story was pretty captivating to read.

Yeah I am aware of two planes - actually Arma hobby provides both numbers in their Wildcat kit. Re-Dauntless - did they use underwing bombs or just the central one?

Before watching the Midway movie, I read the book called The Silver Waterfall by Kevin Miller. Albeit being historical fiction it puts you right into the thick of the action - so much better than the movie itself. In fact, it made the movie experience very bleak to me just for that reason. Enjoyed the book tenfold more.

  7. Today marks 40th anniversary since the Exocet hit HMS Sheffield at Falklands, with damage severe enough that lead to eventual sinking of the ship. This is my little tribute to those tragic events and the lost sailors, drama I was following as kid on evening TV news.

Full story, info gathered on how to build a Falklands war correct Shiny Sheff and full gallery on my blog:

Very nice!  Any particular plane marking you will pick?

I like the subject as I’m working on Midway builds too

minor detail, if it matters or not, the .30 dual guns on the SBD did not have shields on them at the time, and had the magazine boxes on the side of the guns.

    Thanks, Ben!

Do you have any photo you could share of the setup? I guess I could easily remove the shield but would really like to see how the magazine boxes looked like.
As for the markings, I guess I'm just gonna be bland and choose Best's and Thach's mounts.

Anyhow, I've made some good progress on the Wildcat and here she is in its current state. I've also invested a couple of hours into riveting the whole model which I think will immensely improve the overall looks later in the build.

  9. While I just finished a figure build or better said painting, I now continue with the Midway build.

Rear end of the engine mount with oil tank and filters

    F4F4-4-XL.jpg

Engine mount and really nicely detailed firewall with all the chains and sprockets.

A busy front end of the Wildcat full of support struts and rods... and not to mention an entire landing gear assembly is still missing in the photo.

  10. I am working on a figure as a birthday present to my good friend so the progress on my Midway builds has slowed a bit.

Nevertheless I managed to finish the cockpit. And how tiny it is - 12mm from instrument panel to back wall. I have an expert set version of the kit but I decided not to use the main instrument cluster PE part as I haven't seen I'd gain anything of it. So I used unmodified IP slightly drybrushed and used supplied instrument decals which fit beautifully and instrument glass created with UV resin.

I am also aware that maybe bronze green would be a better choice but since most of the cockpit will disappear in the dark depths of closed cockpit, I just used interior green instead.

  11. Just checked the Yefim Gordon's Su-27 monography and there is a photo of the back end of 32 with 24 standing parked behind it. Both have early production stinger between the engines and on the other photo 32 has only the back ECM aerial on LERX so I'd bet 24 had the same.
