  1. Thank you, Dave!

During studying for the exams, (this old head of mine doesn't suck knowledge in as it used to and has to be constantly beat into submission :D) I managed to do a few relaxation modelling sessions and here's the result so far.

    su27wip-6-XL.jpg

    Aft cockpit mostly painted up.

    su27wip-7-XL.jpg

    Front cockpit painted and washed.

    And side by side comparison.

  2. I haven't posted anything in this section for a while but I've decided that this is about to change.

Brand new GWH kit of the Su-27UB in 1:48 and from my initial inspection, I am quite certain you can make it into outstanding looking model without use of any aftermarket products.

Progress is slow as I have a bunch of exams at work in the near future and parenting and other hobbies take a toll, but still, I am gaining momentum with this build nevertheless.

First completed piece is front gear well - I am doing an early version of the UB so I've chosen the open bay with all the piping and structure visible but GWH provides a closed well for later versions as well.

    Hi guys

I am about to build three iranian f-14 in 1/72

One with the old desert camo

One with the splinter camo and

One with the new grey one

Can ask you if you know the correct colors for each one in tamiya gunze MRP or real colors?

Also do you have photo of a heavily weathered iranian plane?

    Thank you

    MRPs:

Applicable to desert camo and new splinter camo

    Tan FS 20400 - MRP-244

    Brown FS 30140 - MRP-233
    Forest Green FS 34079 - MRP-101

    Camouflage Grey FS 36622 - MRP-104

There are two variants of blue camo - blue/grey and blue/sand

    Blue is both times FS35450 - MRP-240

Sand FS33578 - MRP doesn't have this colour in their selection but I'd take MRP-226 Sand and take it from there

    Grey FS36622 - MRP-104

  4. I switched from MM enamels to MRP lacquers - best thing I did in my scale model "career". As for the inaccuracy claims - each company has rotten eggs in their baskets and it would seem, the paint saga can often be quite subjective. I really like them. Hell no, I LOVE them.

Watched the videos. Good stuff.  Especially liked the part about painting the camouflage.

How did you do the canopy sealant? Airbrush, paintbrush or decals? I'm currently wondering what to do on my Fishbeds. Leaning towards blank decal sheet painted in an appropriate colour.

Yes, Eduard's instructions are a bit weird in that regard. The instructions of both the "interceptor" and "fighter-bomber" ProfiPacks don't mention the extra doors. The Royal Class boxing mentions them and gives a hint about using them when attaching UB-32s to the inner pylons. The "Czech service" dual combo kit mentions the parts as optional, but doesn't specify why or when to use them.

Learned about the landing gear doors on a German forum that has several people who worked on MiG-21s in East Germany's NVA. Apparently there's a piece like a cut-out that can be taken off when using UB-32s. Came across that when trying to figure out how the landing gear doors look when closed. When I built my Fishbeds wheels-up there were some gaps that I thought wrong for a Mach 2 fighter. I put it down to Eduard only giving a wheels-down option, but as it turns out, those gaps are perfectly accurate.

Glad I could be of use with the vids. I am improving the quality as well with the current build. Filming was a steep learning curve so I'll try to improve as much as I can with the limited resources I have at hand.

Yeah I skipped a few minor things in the vids - I masked the canopy and airbrushed the sealant. But in case you haven't noticed, Begemot released sealant decals in 3 different pink tones in 1:72 and 1:48 just a few days ago.

Thanks for the info on the UB-32/wheel door thingy. I will certainly remember this if I build any more mudmoving variants 🙂

That is gorgeous! 😍 Looking forward to watching the video later (especially the camo painting bits).

I've used Linden Hill's Azeri MiG-21SM sheet as a reference for my Soviet SM, but plan to build at least one of the Azeri SMs too some day. Lovely weathering.

Regarding the UB-32s, isn't there a special landing gear door with a cut-out on the sprues? I guess it's not called out in the instructions, though.

BTW, the link to Full article and gallery in your blog has an extra [/b] that breaks the link. 😉

Thank you, Moritz! Link sorted out!

I have a plan to build several Afghan war veterans in the future, so this Azeri bird was kind of a testing ground and I really like the outcome.
regarding the UB-32s, ha you got me. I used overtrees version and instructions from the very first bunny club members edition release, which had only brassin a2s weapons included. Although I have checked Ed's instructions in pdf on their site, there is no mention of UB-32 or different doors. I am not so familiar with the -21 to know this "mod" but it seems entirely possible.

  7. Thanks guys!

Great birthday present! Very nicely done indeed.  Where did those figures come from?

Actually they come with the kit - it's a special edition of Revell Spitfire with 2 Eddies and 2 variants of decals - either this Aces High or the stage version that Iron Maiden are using on current tour.

  8. I don’t normally build ww2 era planes and even rarer you can find 1:32 subject on my desk. But having Revell release this kit about 6 months before my good friend’s birthday, who is (surprise surprise) a huge Maiden fan, the ever present “what to buy for birthday” question was solved then and there.

I am happy how she turned out and the Spit brought the new proud owner to the brink of tears and a huge bear hug 😄

    Anyhow, Up the Irons!

    That's really nice Seb... :worship:

Those colours look absolutely spot on - are they as recommended in the kit - or did you mix your own ??

    Stay safe

    Ken

    Thanks Ken!

Glad you like my work so far. I've spent quite some time trying to figure out the colours. The instructions suggest Humbrol codes but I don't use enamels anymore. As I am painting exclusively with Mr.Paint lacquers now, I was searching their catalog. Blue shouldn't be a problem as I have a bunch for different Flanker variants - in the end, AMT-7 WW2 underside blue seemed a good match. Black was no brainer, dark Green I've decided on SEA Dark Green. Sand, I was searching in their catalog and found a good match - will write it down when I finish the kit in the article. Mid green I used Swedish AF one for the Viggen camo.
