  1. Thanks for the helpful replies. I completely agree with the two previous posts, especially the part about the Hobbyboss A-7 series. My question has been answered. Thanks again.
  2. Hey Moritz, Thanks for the link and the info, it was very helpful. AICZ, I disagree that Revell is better. I realize that each kit has it's strong points, but I have seen both and I like Hasegawa better. Since I never use kit decals and I have all the Hasegawa weapons sets those points do not impact me. Also, I am not quite sure what "brushes on back have" means.
  3. "Confrontational post" edited. Sorry,it was meant to show frustration and a little irritation at so many 1/72 posters being dismissed.
  4. Thanks for the reply. Maybe I should buy the Growler and build it as a Growler since I like it too Still, I am sure I read somewhere that at least one of the new boxings of the Hasegawa 1/72 F/A-18F has the new ECS pipes. I guess I will try the LHS, if they have one in stock and will let me open it to check. If I find out I'll let everyone know.
  5. I should have said I wanted aftermarket decals. Also I already have the Fujimi A-6E and it would be a waste to get the KA-6D just for lousy Fujimi decals. It is strange though, I suggested to one of the Decal manufacturers that is on ARC regularly to make some of his sets in 1/72 and he responded something to the effect that he "could NEVER take a risk like that". So I decided I must have just chosen the wrong scale, but I can not fit most 1/48 modern jets in the china hutch I purchased to display my model collection (F-16s BARELY fit). Oh well... maybe things will change.
  6. Wow, 119 views and no responses to this question in the original thread so I will try again in this thread I read somewhere that Hasegawa released the 1/72 F/A-18F with the later ECS pipes. Does anyone know which boxing that is? Also, can some kind soul with this kit check to see if Hasegawa might have included an AN/ASQ-228 ATFLIR (instead of the AN/AAS 38 Nitehawk pod that came in the original -F release) )along with the new ECS detail? Thanks
  7. Too bad about 90-95% of all new decal releases are 1/48. I have wanted the Black Leopard A-6 markings for years now. When these are available in 1/72 I will buy both. Not before.
  8. I bought the 1/72 Hasegawa F/A-18E Super Hornet after reading positive reviews online. Upon opening the box I noticed that the kit only included an AN/AAS-38 Nitehawk TFLIR pod. I re-read some of the reviews and looked at parts lists online and it seems that everyone reviewing this kit thought the included Nitehawk was an AN/ASQ-228 ATFLIR pod. I looked at online photos of the sister kit, the 1/72 Hasegawa F/A-18F and it too has only the Nitehawk pod. So I looked at the 1/72 Revell kit and it also only has the Nitehawk pod. Upon researching the ATFLIR online it seems that deliveries start
  9. Here is the update I promised. I sent a message to Greg Williams, owner of Modern Hobbies and he gave me permission to post the following info on this forum, this is a direct quote; "Unfortunately our current F/A-18 rein sets wont fit the Academy Kit, but yes, it just so happens I do plan on making a set for the very nice Academy. So it looks like there will be a resin replacement cockpit set made for the 1/72 Academy F/A-18C Hornet kit in the rear future. I will definitely be ordering at least one. In addition he said this "Thanks for the suggestion on the AN/ASQ-228 ATFLIR for Hornets,
  10. Thanks David, As soon as I get up the nerve to build another one I will give your way a try.
  11. Does anyone know of a resin or PE replacement cockpit for the 1/48 Fine Molds X-Wing? It is such a nice kit it deserves a good one.
  12. Well, thinking I might have misjudged it I took another look at the 1/72 Academy Hornet cockpit and compared it to numerous other 1/72 scale jet offerings. It is better than some and not as good as others. I think the 25 or 30 year old Hasegawa F-15C cockpit is better. Some more recently kits that use decals, such as the Hasegawa 1/72 F-18E, are not as good. So I call this one just average. The ejection seat looks like a SJU-17, if a bit soft and short of detail. The cockpit tub has some scribed lines and nondescript raised bumps on the side panels, otherwise no detail at all. The instrume
  13. Thanks ChippyWho, I will look forward to your post. But I am still confused, does anyone have any idea as to why there is so little after market stuff for the 1/72 Academy F/A-18C kit? If you build the -A or -D there are many options, just not the -C, and what they did have has been discontinued I half suspect Hasegawa of pulling some strings like they tried to do with Bert Kinsey after his review of their 1/48 Dauntless in the Detail & Scale book where he accurately and honestly shredded it. Oh well, there's lots more in the stash and I can afford to wait to see what happens.
  14. Joel_W, Thanks for the post. I actually had the disaster with my -1D about 7 or eight years ago. It happened during construction while prepping for the paint shop even though I had used braces inside. I was holding the wing while rescribing some damaged panel lines at the wing leading edge, then CRACK! When I ran a little more Tamiya extra thin down the joint it all sort of melted and sagged making a nice gooey valley. NOT what you want! I was not able to save it so I ripped out the interior, put it in my -1A (which I will now build as a -1D) and started planning the next disaster - oops,
  15. Thanks for posting seawinder, nice job. I took time and care with the wing joints also, maybe it was just some ham-handed handling on my part. Tell me about the four guns in the wings, I have not seen that before. Nice weathering job, looks used but not overdone, just the way I like it. What color is the wash in the panel lines?
  16. I tried the 1/48 Tamiya F4U-1D kit a while ago. Even with an evergreen brace inside the wing fold area both wings cracked from normal handling. Come to think of it I have never seen one built without folded wings (photos welcome and appreciated). I would love to see photos/instructions on how to build this kit with the wings extended as I have two more in the stash but I am kind of scared of it now.
  17. I hope this does not violate some rule about posting links, but this is what I found: http://www.neomega-resin.com/f-18-intakes-172nd-520-p.asp
  18. I just found a place called NeOmega-Resin that makes intakes with integral gear wells for the 1/72 Academy F/A-18C kit. Has anyone tried these and are they any good?
  19. Thanks for the replies so far. I too have had trouble with some Aires parts. The Aires wheel well replacement for my 1/48 Tamiya Fw-190A3 was WAY too short in width. Aires replaced it with a new one that is the right length, but I can not close the wings around it because of the thickness, even though I have thinned until I can see through it. I already ground out the kit detail so I don't know how I will ever finish it. Other Aires items, such as the cockpit for the 1/72 Fujimi A-7E and 1/72 Fujimi F-22 are quite nice and fits rather well. I have numerous other Aires items I have not tri
  20. Hello all, New forum member here (new to THIS forum, 42 year modeling experience) To start with, I would like to publicly thank Aires. I recently needed a defective resin seat replaced (from the Aires resin set for the Hasegawa 1/72 F-117A kit). I also asked to buy three additional of these seats (early ACES II seats with the vertical pleated cushions - for an ODS A-10 and F-15E I plan to build). I could not find anyone that markets these seats outside of a complete resin cockpit set, only the new smooth sheep skin ones. Aires sent me all four seats at no charge. That's what I call custo
