janman, I know it has been a few years, but, just in case you didn't see this kit. check here for a mp4/2c. http://www.nunumodelkit.com/mclaren-mp4-2c-86-portuguese-gp/ and https://reviews.ipmsusa.org/review/mclaren-mp42c-86-portuguese-gp

I would think that a guitar fret cutter would work, though, as mentioned above, the hardness of the metal pin that you mention could damage the tool straight off. Perhaps this dental with tungsten carbide blades would work? https://surtex-instruments.com/product/flush-cut-hold-distal-end-cutter/

Amazon claims to have three of these kits https://www.amazon.com/Academy-Model-Kit-Rokaf-Plane/dp/B00JF2PSQA/ref=sr_1_1?crid=3U9QJ5RYW2SBW&dchild=1&keywords=1%2F48+academy+f-4d&qid=1607817588&refinements=p_85%3A2470955011&rnid=2470954011&rps=1&sprefix=academy+f-4d%2Caps%2C188&sr=8-1 available to be delivered on December 15. Scalemates claims this kit was released with "new parts", so I don't know if this ROKAF release is suitable to build a USAF F-4D(obviously at least, USAF decals would need to be procured). A quick comparison

A great recommendation! Especially since, it is, more likely than not, it should be still available at a local Hobby Lobby. Where, you could use their daily coupon code for 40% off the retail price!

What a shame. They "market" a good number of unique products, and I know I would order ~$100.00 worth of parts if they would be available.

First attempt at airbrushing today - Not good

On top of the sage advice from the above folks, I use the following: 1: https://www.midwestairbrush.com/paintmixer.html This paint mixer really has saved my wrists from all the bottle shaking I used to do. 2.a https://www.iwata-airbrush.com/pistol-grip-moisture-filter.html and 2.b https://www.iwata-airbrush.com/moisture-filter-with-regulator-and-gauge.html or similar (less expensive alternatives are available) After trying to spray on a hot humid day here in PA a few years back, and experiencing paint splatter I went with two moisture traps -
I have had the best luck contacting them via email.

I fear you are right. I seem to have restarted the hobby a year too late, a few years back, to purchase anything from them. Too bad no one has purchased their molds for their f-16 bang seats. they seemed to be the best on the market. PLUS they were planning on a A-10C cockpit for the monogram kit, just one example of some of their tasty bits that I would purchase now. Does anyone know why they have faded away?
-
Just wondering if anyone has any info if they are still in business or not. I emailed them months back and have not received a response, plus their website hasn't been updated in a few years (seemingly). Thanks!

I am sure hobby lobby was told by iwata to not allow the 40%. Can’t blame iwata on desiring to maintain their floor pricing. It was a nice loophole while it lasted. -
sprue brothers sell eduards "overtrees" essentially, ONLY the kits sprues, no boxart, decals, instructions. they do have this one in stock: https://store.spruebrothers.com/product_p/edu08221x.htm
