  1. No, really. I give. What's the Magic word? Here's the story. 1:72 scale F-101B. Revell. Nice kit, mostly. some seam issues, so, hey, let's putty them. Then sand, CRAP! all the fine recessed panel lines are gone! Okay. Keep cool they make tools and videos about scribing. I can do this. Watch Videos, Acquire tools and putty.... Mask and Putty and make smooth as best I can. Re-scribe. Too deep, DANG IT. Ok. Fill with putty. Sand, re-scribe. Looks like crap. Re-Scribe TOO DEEP. Slip off the line, create Panel Lines at odd angles where there shouldn't be any. Ok, More rea
  2. This is completely awesome. Thanks very much for taking the time to photograph and compare. Don't stop now! Jester
  3. Ok. Which of you guys was a Crew Chief on a 111? Y'all know way too much just to be casual observers. Jester (and yes, I'm allowed to use "Y'all". I live in the South).
  4. Oh, AND I didn't bring my camera. I won't make that mistake again. Too many models not to take photos and link to them so everyone can see. Jester
  5. Didn't mean to leave the Armor out. Just an oversite on my part. Gratz on the 2nd place. Which one was yours? I would not have wanted to be a judge. Tough job there. I would like to go to some of the Larger Venues just to see what is out there. Would be my first time. Atlanta, B'ham, Chattanooga, Nashville, etc. are all in driving distance. Everyone should go to the Space Center, at least once. It's always a very interesting day at the Center. The Apollo/Saturn V on it's side in the Davidson Center is not to be missed. Jester
  6. We're talking 1:48 scale here, right? That sounds like a good way to go, bash the two and take the best of both worlds. One of the things I liked about the old Monogram/Revell kit was that you could sweep the wings. This is going to get expensive. Jester
  7. I was there on Saturday. Bought a couple of models, the wife and I even got to pull the tickets for a drawing or something. I thought the turnout was pretty good, even for lunchtime. Everyone was very friendly. The contest entries were fantastic. Some really nice work modelling going on. I was very impressed by several of the entries. Big fan of the 1:48 F-101C. SEA Camo paint. Really nice. Big 1:350th scale Enterprise Refit, with shuttle bay detail and light kit. Really nice A-6 Intruder, 1:32 scale I believe. All of the Car Models were amazing. Some of the paint jobs looked li
  8. That's pretty much what I have been reading. MrVark: I can tell you spent many moons around your Aircraft, and I understand and appreciate that. I spent some time around the EF at Mountain Bone AFB back in the 80's when Grumman was still there. Being an F-16 ECM troop gave me certain freedoms around the Raven that weren't afforded to everyone. Some of our Spark Chasers were old F-111 electricians. I would have traded places with one of the Raven ECM guys. I'm still going to bite the bullet and get one in 1:72 and 1:48. I'm going to do the best I can to fix what glares at me, but like J
  9. NICE! Nice job on the flaps and slats. I wonder if I could throw enough parts at one of those and turn it into an EF. Probably more difficult than doing it to a real one. Grumman had lots of money. Jester.
  10. 1/72 would be okay. I think the 1/48 scale version usually works out to be about 19 or 20". Hasegawa eh? Lemme look... Jester
  11. Is there a decent EF-111A---F-111A? I have been reading several posts, lengthy discussions, old news, and reviews on this, and the websites/boards, and I get the distinct feeling that nobody makes an accurate EF-111/F-111 model. Am I correct here? I would like an EF-111 with markings from Mountain Home or Cannon. Hell, just an accurate EF or an F with the short wings and accurate cockpit (Box office/Flight Deck, your choice). Anybody build one? Buy one? Bash one? Thanks! Jester
  12. Tubular Bells by Mike Olfield (Music from The Exorcist) Jester
  13. Wicked witch music from The Wizard of Oz. I'll get you my pretty! Jester
  14. I keep coming back to this post to look at this F-89. Really outstanding job! Jester.
  15. I like the idea of painting with a Water based paint. Interesting camo schemes. You can't have any solids in the paint, no metal for pigment (Titanium, etc.) Notice that the RTWS antennas are still gray. I would guess that they tested the paint for reflection. I would not want to be sitting on the backside of that Radome during hot transmitt. No thanks. I guess I am surprised they could/would paint the Nose. We were very careful not to get spurious reflections from the RADAR. Plus the FE's from GD were very specific. No paint. Knife hands were used. Look at the 2 bladed antenna on
  16. I watch Phil Flory all the time. Always good stuff there. Some of the "chaff" I watch just for fun, just to see the builds if nothing else. or if they are building something I'm interested in. Personally I don't think I have the chops to show off my stuff, not even on YouTube. Some of them I watch just to see how the bench/workspace is set up. Jester.
  17. Yes, I watch them. A lot of them in fact. Some of them I can use for a Drinking Game. How many times will Bobby Waldron say the word "Noice". But I'm curious, am I the only one? Surely Not. I have quite a few I am subscribed to. I have learned things from some of them, watched reviews, and just watched for fun. Do any of you watch these guys? I think I should do more at the modelling desk and less at the computer/TV watching YouTube... Could it be an addiction? Jester...
  18. I worked on F-16's at Hill and Nellis in the 80's. You cannot paint any of the radomes. This includes the ECM radomes. They are covered in the same coating as the Nose and used to de-lam all the time. There is no TO to refinish them. Just replace and return to Vendor. We had one bird painted Green/Jungle Camo. We ended up calling it "Frog Eyes" because of the gray RTWS Radomes on the front just aft of the Nose Radome. It was...Interesting. And we never called them Vipers back then. They were Falcons. The Pilots started calling them Vipers after I got out. The Original Block 5 A mod
  19. I'm going for sure. I have not been to one, Ever, I don't think. I didn't even know there was one. I will even spend money. Jester
  20. HobbyLinc has it for $49.83 before Shipping. I'll be sure of shipping today. I must order it. Jester
  21. Nicely done. The NMF using the MM Paints really looks excellent. Very smooth. Sometimes they have a tendency to look a little "Thick". This one does not. Very well done. The F-89 is one of my Favorites. Jester
  22. I totally agree. I will make an effort to post more, and respond to things. See, I already have! Twice. Jester
  23. Interesting. I normally don't post. I do see your point though. I think some forums won't let you see pics, or PM etc. without being a member. Also, When forums have been up for a while there are those that have already formed relationships, or have become the "regulars". A lot of the time I feel like I came to the party late, and I don't wish to rehash things that have already been discussed. Come to think of it though, I seem to talk a lot in real life... Well, that's a little trip into my Psyche I wasn't ready for. Thanks for that. :)/> Oh and sometimes my humor gets lost betw
