  1. Ya know, I just now saw your Venezuelan Flanker build, now THAT is very inspirational! Unfortunately I do not have your level of patience for re-scribing or meticulousness overall.
  2. This is probably the coolest completed project I have seen, period. This thing turned out beautiful, and I can only imagine how jaw dropping it must be to see in person! Well done Steve, this is truly a masterpiece.
  3. Thanks D! Haha, thanks Cap! THere are a lot of hockey stick-looking doodads down there. Be afraid, be very afraid! LOL
  4. Thanks man! I appreciate the kind words. Thank you sir! Thanks DET, I appreciate that! 🙂 Thanks conehead!
  5. First, your model is fantastic, the weathering is very nicely done... But that stand.... WOW! That is probably the coolest in-flight stand I have ever seen. If I had the skills to work metal like that I would definitely do something like that. I like how you turned the red diagonal stripe from the Black Aces logo into the stand itself. Brilliant!!!!
  6. I used the DN Models masks, and overall I had a good experience with them. They are the tamiya tape style masks, so that helps with the complex curves. I cannot speak to the accuracy of them, but they looked right to me. As with a scheme this complicated, there was quite a bit of touch up after mask removal, and since it is so complicated I messed up a few places on my own. But overall I would recommend them. Here is how mine turned out:
  7. Also added the radome and wingtip pods. I believe I will have to modify them to be correct for this aircraft slightly. I need to research a little more before I do so. I think I probably should have done that first before attaching them, but it is not unusual for me to get a little ahead of myself. LOL As for the nosecone, I put 4 fishing weights in there. That's a lot more than I usually do, as I am worried about all the weight at the rear with the resin vertical tails and resin AMR nozzles. I hope it is enough, but I also hope it is not too much weight for the nose gear eit
  8. Some more work done... Got the shoulders pretty much done. I am very pleased with the fit of the resin from Naza, and if I had spent just a little more time on pre-fitting and sanding of the cut areas I bet this would have fit perfectly. As it is, though, I did have to throw some filler in and do some sanding, especially on the gun side. But I am happy with where I am now. Apparently I have lost the gun barrel from all the handling. I will do a thorough work area search and rescue of my work area tonight, if I can't find it I will have to consider another option.
  9. Thanks Ken! I did not know what those circular things were, so thanks for the enlightenment! Interestingly, they do not look quite so prominent on the model, seems the pics magnify it. But yes, they definitely are more than almost flush. I am a terrible re-scriber of small details, so I will have to think about whether I want to sand that down or not. Thanks Paul! So which one would you do? SM, MKI, MKA, or another MKM? Thanks Mario!
  10. Count me in! I am glad you were able to get the decals from Dutch off of Scalemates since I was planning on using mine. Actually, my AZ Apache project is next up after my current one, so I will be watching closely your progress for tips for when I start mine. Looking great so far Chris!
  11. You can also check out my build album as well: https://www.scalemates.com/profiles/mate.php?id=16625&p=albums&album=44181#65
  12. I am sure yours will turn out great! This scheme is sneakily difficult to mask, despite how easy it looks. Anyway, once you get to it, give me a shout if you have any questions, I will be glad to help!
  13. Took a little time to work on fitting the AMR TV exhaust... I cut the nacelles back a decent amount to get the diameters to match. I am going to cut out a little bit more as I have a little more room to get it perfect. I am not going to cut all the way back to the panel line that it should go to, because the diameter of the nacelles won't match at that point (nacelle opening will be too big). So instead of doing major sanding and fitting at that point, I am going to just go to where they line up. This will result in the end of the nozzle being a bit further back then the actual aircraft,
  14. Thanks Paul! I am thinking it is his older conversion that uses the Academy, the cut points line up pretty perfectly to the HB kit, so I would be inclined to believe that is the case. Ah, I never thought of that. Yeah, that would make things much easier. I think for me though, I will wait until someone comes out with a kit some day before I try this again. If you do another I will be sure to follow along! Thanks Matt! Yeah, the resin is pretty nice, actually. I am impressed. Still plugging away at the kit, slow but steady!
  15. Thanks so much Zach, I always appreciate your feedback and I am really glad you enjoy my completion posts! I tend to work pretty quickly and on average finish a model in 3-6 weeks, so never too long to wait for my next installment! 🙂 Thanks man! Getting phantom's approval on an F-4 is the ultimate compliment! Thanks Djack, I appreciate the kind words! Ahhhhhh, Jesus. I like him very much. But he no help with curveball. LOL, a little Major League movie reference for ya. 🙂
  16. Scalemates is basically like Wikipedia in which anyone can make changes or add a new kit, so it is likely whomever added that to Scalemates didn't realize the vast differences. The other issue is in the Scalemates category grouping, the Su-35 falls under the Su-27 category, there is no category for Su-35. That is why they are shown on the same timeline (however I did de-link them). There are separate categories for the Su-33 and Su-34, so I think one for the Su-35 may also be needed. Not sure how to get another aircraft category added. There are different levels of contributor
  17. Thanks Steve, I appreciate the kind words! Thanks Matthew! Haha thank you for sharing your story about this aircraft, that is super cool to hear from the people that were around aircraft I have built. 🙂
  18. Greetings! So once again I am back with another completed project, the 1/48 Zoukei Mura F-4S Phantom II in the unique Heater-Ferris scheme adorned by VF-302, circa 1983. The kit is the excellent Zoukei Mura F-4S kit. This was a fun build for me, and I enjoyed pretty much the entire process. Fitment is very good, and detail is fantastic! So much so that the only aftermarket I used were the decals. Those decals are the from the long OOP Afterburner Ferris Phantoms sheet from 2009. I think I lucked into finding that sheet on eBay for less than $20, after I had been se
  19. Well, took a break from the cutting, sanding, and fitting and worked on the cockpit. It is mostly done, but have a few little areas to touch up. A couple things of note about the cockpit: 1. Well, my attempt at scratch building the IPs was an abject failure. I was so unhappy with what I came up with I just decided to go with the kit supplied parts, despite the fact they are not right. Much props to you Paul for pulling off such awesome IPs! It appears I will just never be very good at sctachbuilding nor scribing... 2. You might wonder why the pit is dark gray. Well, from loo
  20. Hmmm, I don't remember paying that $6 fee, but my memory sucks sometimes. LOL
  21. I am shocked and saddened by this news. He just recently was commenting on my recent F-4S build on Scalemates, offering up his extensive expertise on anything Naval and F-4. RIP Rex,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,
  22. This is great news! There are so many 1/48 sets I want to get... once they are available I am not gonna wait like last time and risk missing the boat again!
  23. Thanks man! Yeah, this thing is quite huge. It takes up a full shelf, by itself, that normally holds three aircraft. Thanks Skyhawk! The scribing is OK. There are a few wayward lines and some almost straight ones... LOL Thanks Brian! Yeah, it is not the most builder-friendly kit out there. But it is a simple kit, that's for sure. Thanks Kursad! Yeah, it was quite a long process to do, lots of VERY long lines on the wings. The wings themselves took forever... I also wanted to say I enjoyed using your decals, t
  24. Hmmmm, this makes sense and a good solution to my spraying issues with future. I think I might give this a try.
