  1. Rightwinger, thank you very much good Sir! I really appreciate the compliments so early on. I hope not to disappoint! Work started with me drooling over this kit... The fine details really are something else, as are the rivets, and how fine they are, while other surface details are appropriately larger and more defined. The first tree I looked at had the fuselage halves and the wings. Here are some close ups, that really, do not do the plastic justice: The actual work started with cutting the forward bit of engine cowl away, and opening up the radio access hatch. It is very evident t
  2. The fuselage is going to have a few things added to it as well. Here I will be using Brassin sets 648120 for the radio compartment, and 648099 for the exhaust stacks: As well, there will be sets 648112 for everything forward of the firewall, and 640100 for the cockpit: I have to say that I was INCREDIBLY impressed with the quality of the resin casting by Eduard. I was grinning like an absolute idiot at this point, and these poor, blurry photos will show what I mean: I had heard a lot about the fabric seat belts, and thought I would give them a try. When I picked up the Eduard bel
  3. While I'm researching the 1/48 Aurora, I needed to have a bit of a fun build. Where the Aurora is (aside from the vac shell) scratch built, I wanted something that was completely opposite. In so, I also wanted to pay tribute to one of my most favoured pilots, George Beurling. This will be the first of two builds I hope to do (the later one being his mount at Malta), so here it goes! The Subject & The History One of the most interesting pilots of any Air Force on any side was the sharp eyed Canadian, George "Buzz" Beurling. Most noted for his achievements in Malta, he was a pilot who, by
  4. Too easy! Okay! Thank you for your response. This build is looking fantastic.
  5. I am fortunate enough to have now the Accurate Miniatures TBM-3 Avenger, as well as Eduards Spitfire IXc and MiG-21MF. The price I paid for them (and the AM) really is low, in comparison with the quality of the products, the accuracy, and the whole package you get (such as decals and instructions). I honestly got more than I paid for, or at least that is how I feel. I was however very disappointed with a few other kits, and opening the boxes (LHS was very kind) I couldn't bring myself to pay the money for what was there. Specifically, in wanting to build a particular MiG-21, the larger Trumpy
  6. Absolutely fantastic work with the wings there! I do have a quick question for you - about the dihedral of the wings. With a kit such as this size, how did you ensure an accurate dihedral to the wings? Thanks!
  7. I have looked on eBay, and that's why I'm posting here. I want to build the T-56, but not at $130 + shiipping. But I am going to send you a PM for something else. Thanks!
  8. As well, here's a great little article written about the CP-140 out here. Don't know the guy, but certainly would like to meet him and thank him for writing such a nice piece: http://www.aeroresource.co.uk/articles/2014/cp-140-aurora-modernization/ Cheers.
  9. Hello folks, I'm hoping someone has, and is willing to part ways with the old Revell 1/10 Allison T-56 Turboprop model (#8880). Thanks in advance.
  10. My wife and I do quite a bit of aviation art, and art in general... far from "expert class" but we certainly do try to get some accuracy ...so when we came across this thread, we had to have a look. Turns out, we actually made a bowl of popcorn to look over this thread, and have been busting our guts laughing! Thank you so much for this, it's an absolute riot!
  11. Well, All the information for the stencils, reference photographs, and charts were sent off this evening to the company I'm hoping can do the stencil work. Should be about 1-3 weeks they said before they come back with a quote, so I'm crossing my fingers. No doubt that a quote will come back... it's the pricetag attached to that quote that I'm worried about. With a lot of the background research well underway, and once some of the short comings of the fuselage halves are taken care of, then the nitty-gritty of the build will actually be able to get started! Further to that, there's go
  12. Nimrod beat me to the question about the Citadel Putty. Fantastic work on the fuselage though - well, let me back up... fantastic work on the entire build so far! She is a big kit! I remember spray painting the same kit at a youngster with my dad in the backyard when we built this one. He was always so fascinated with the aircraft. As a surprise, that summer we had a fly-by of one at an airshow we went to... he then had it! Called up some friends and we went south of the border to Mountain Home AFB and were able to get a tour that weekend. A lot has changed since the 90's... none the less, I
  13. I echo what Motta said. I recently picked up the same kit with many of the same extras. I hope to be able to take some time down the road and build up the MiG my father flew - well, it's the scheme the aircraft has on display in Poland right now, but that tail number was one that he really enjoyed. Regardless, and not to detract for your build, fantastic work, especially in the cockpit. Very clean, very crisp. I'll definitely be following along with this build.
  14. Andy, this is one of the sharpest Hornets I've seen. Your work is very nice and crisp, and the colours just pop! Very nicely done!
  15. If I had the words to describe how I looked - complete with drool on the keyboard - when looking over your work, well, I'd use it here. Incredible!
  16. You can certainly call this art. Fantastic work! Absolutely breathtaking to see some pictures I've viewed numerous times in B&W in colour! Please post more if you can.
  17. Jens, First off, thank you kindly. This is my first vacuform, and first kit of this grand size. The span of a single wing half is almost as long as the wingspan of the Shturmovik I'm working on, so it certainly is bringing with it some challenges. But that's the fun, right? Maketar definitely caught my eye, and knowing that they would be willing to do custom work certainly offers up an even greater plan B should my buddies be unable to make the cuts. And, being able to get specific numbers, rather than buying 300 and only using 12, well, that also seems like a very appealing option!
  18. Emil, WOW! Okay, well, that is a fantastic option! Thank you very much for that! I'm going to definitely need to figure out the fuselage number first before I go on, however, that is going to be a HUGE help. The only downside though, is that in order to get what I need, I'm looking at ordering up to 5 separate sets. Not bad if I'm planning on doing future Canadian aircraft. I'm going to wait out until I hear back from my buddies though. Luckily, lots of time between now, and when I'm going to need the masks. As for the stencil data source, it's directly from the finishing schematics/dia
  19. I second that! Cannot wait to see what she looks like put together.
  20. Hi Bruce. I've used decals from CanMilAir in the past on some projects years ago, and they are absolute gems. I did look at them, and was disappointed that they are 407 centric - or rather, there isn't a single "Casey" available (405 Squadron Eagle on the vertical stab). But, at least the guys out West with their flying dinner fork can't complain about being forgotten (again) lol. I'm waiting to hear back from friends about paint masks, and if they can use the vector of Casey I sent them to cut a 1/48 mask of our Eagle. If that's the case, then I'll also get the roundels, flag, and aircraft n
  21. WOW! How in the world did you get the water like that? That is some of the most realistic looking water that I've seen! Would love to know how you did it. And the U-Boat looks stunning as well. Great work on adding the aged/weathered look to her.
  22. Researching the forum I found this VERY helpful, but what I'm hoping is to be able to nail down exactly what silicone would be best. What I'm looking to cast using the MKK-70 would be 1/48 scale: -Wheels with separate rims (wheels will need a two part mold, where the rims can just be pour cast) -seats (main seats, and parts of the frame would be a two part mold, while other pieces again can be pour cast) The MKK-70 being water thin is excellent, along with the working time, but in trying to pick the silicone, there were a number on the site that listed as preferred by model builders - for t
