  1. All in the details, yes, yes it is!
  2. They are fun, aren't they? Not a GoPro, with the nose cone of the radar cut away, I was able to just bring the lens of the camera close in and snap those shots. They are fun though! As the nose cone will be the very last bit of the fuselage to go on, it'll be interesting to see how things progress. For you my friend, I'll keep posting those types of pictures up as progress moves along. Thanks Joel. Yeah, years ago, this young kid at one of the local model club meetings out West showed us how he cut flaps, ailerons, and other pieces off without having to scribe with a knife. He had a small
  3. I really like how your exhaust changes as you move further back, just like the real thing. They look absolutely fantastic! I see you also like using paint masks as I do, eh? They really do make it a bit more realistic. But I have to ask, your chipping methods, what do you do? It looks stunning! Myself, I paint the metal in an alcad first, and then with acrylics, I will spray them over-top, and then chip the paint away exposing the metal alcad below. Your method looks different, and much better results than I am getting. Would you mind sharing how you achieve such fantastic results? Good ch
  4. That's exactly how I felt. Up to that point, I had always had this impression that Vac Forms were always different. Very soft details, if any at all, and although it "looked" like the subject, they never really compared to what a mainstream kit could achieve. Every single vac that I had seen built, well, you could tell from some distance that it was a vac. And then Tom goes and starts posting up builds of his work, which, like you said, really does blow you away. This one is head and shoulders above, and totally blew my idea of vac kits out of the water. This build and the thread he posted w
  5. Janne, FANTASTIC build of the Viggen! I really admire your attention to detail, and desire to try and get the model as close to accurate as possible. Your scratch building is fairly impressive as well. Thank you for the detailed posts of how you achieve your results, and the little tips specific to this aircraft (like the canard flaps pointing to the leading edge of the main wing) are really going to help those who build this aircraft model. Cheers, Mark.
  6. Often use both acryl and rattle can from MM. Never had an issue.
  7. Thank you Erik. The muted checkerboard is very unique, and so it caught my eye right away. Since seeing it, I've always wanted to build this one. There is just something about it. It makes sense that it didn't last long. Speaking with my dad, until I showed him photographs, he didn't believe that this was ever the case. Oh, he loved those MiG-21 aircraft. It is a very unique paint scheme, and Montex was kind enough to also send me a vinyl cut of the Eagle to paint on the vertical stabilizer as well. I'm always making my models weathered, and tired, and so it would be a nice change to try a
  8. Hi Dnl42, I appreciate your offer, but it would be selfish of me to take you up on it. I already have the Montex-Mask set, but regardless, thank you for your offer. Cheers, Mark.
  9. If the short-cut worked, it wouldn't be called a short-cut; it would be called "the right way."
  10. Held onto it for a few years, never going to build this one. It is an open box just as I got it, but all the parts are still sealed in their bags. Nothing has been opened, nothing is missing. Heck, it's in better condition than I am. Selling it for $40.00 Canadian Dollars - so you all south of the border have nothing to gripe about :D/> Buyer covers shipping, so naturally I will happily ship it anywhere. PM me if interested. Cheers, Mark.
  11. I have for quite some time tried to google my answer. It is pictures and reference info of the aircraft when the muted colours were worn. Cheers.
  12. Uncle, I think you're right about that. A very light coloured yellow.
  13. Guys and Gals, I'm looking for some help with a very particular subject I want to do. MiG-21MF in Polish Markings, it is 9111, which is the MiG-21 on display often photographed showing the Eagle on the Tail. This bird belonged to 3 Eskadra Lotnictwa Taktycnego, in Poznan, Kresiny in 2002. There are two versions of this paint scheme: The one I am interested in is the early one, with the muted national insignia. Unfortunately, there are no images I can find through my regular means that show this aircraft in its muted scheme, other than those provided by Montex Mask in the instructions.
  14. It's white as mentioned above. The section your arrow is pointing to is rubbed off paint.
  15. Old school, tractor (a covered cab) pulling a trailer with the de-icing unit on it. Two separate items. And thanks! I really appreciate it.
  16. Same-same back home. It was a fun job... a very fun job. Then we began to hire a few new guys that really were there only to fill the Christmas rush. One of those new guys ended up driving the deicing tractor setup I mentioned before... nearly took my head off when he decided to pull forward while I was spraying the wings of a Dash-8. You drive the truck, stop the truck. I raise the bucket, spray, lower the bucket, give the thumbs up, we move to another quarter, and do the same, until the aircraft is done. He pulled UNDER the wing of the Dash-8... yeah, UNDER it! I felt it moving, and so I tur
  17. Not much to report on today. The port and starboard sides are now done, and the spar fits in like a glove: I thought I might try to see if the clear pieces were any good that came with this. My thought being that perhaps if the fuselage halves had poor windscreen and upper cockpit shape, than perhaps the single piece clear parts could be the correct shape. Nope! More out of it than the fuselage halves ever were. So I went through and decided to clean up the box of kit pieces... the trash pile got bigger and bigger, and I soon realized that I paid 50 pounds for 10 pieces of plastic:
  18. Is it okay that I chuckled. A little? Same kind of thing happened to me, except that it was a tractor for our deicer trailer. Steering locked up, and the gas stuck. Thanfully no one in the bucket, but I had some fun explaining it... ah, to be a young ramp-rat again...
  19. That is some funny reading right there!
  20. The next step was to trace out the rectangles to be cut out as tight to the spar width as possible. Once done, I started to cut them out. Rather than use a knife to scribe away and risk any number of things (especially when dealing with thicker plastic), I first drilled a hole: From here a piece of thin heavy duty thread was inserted through the hole: Using a motion much like flossing your teeth, I just worked the string vertically around the traced box until I made it all the way around. About a minute worth of flossing, and voila! After that, it was just a slight bit of trimming w
  21. Thanks Joel. Yeah, 5 degrees isn't much for that short distance, it may be a matter of getting to "look right" rather than having to get it perfectly back and having it sit accurately. Time will tell. I've had a few ideas as to what I could do to it, and a few that have me thinking why the heck not go all out on the wings? One idea is to have No. 1 completely exposed, including the over-wing nacelle panels as well. If I'm going to do up the turbine, there really isn't that much more work to get the rest of it exposed as well. But, hey! I'm friggin nuts! So, no work at work, means I'm coming h
  22. Hi Joel, The negative dihedral was a bit of a surprise. I honestly don't know what I will be doing for the wing joint. My hope is that I will be able to build the wings separately, and in a way that will allow me to slide them onto the spars sticking out of the fuselage. Ideally, the landing gear wells would be completely built by this point, and once they slide in, the bridge plates between the spars would sit directly above the wheel well ceiling. Unfortunately, that is a simple way of looking at a complicated operation. Another option would be to remove the lower portion of the nacelle,
