    The big Hawk

Cheers chaps. Yes Tony, it is an Attacker. It's another project I have on the go. The beer caps are for all sorts of things such as paint, cyno etc. But the best part is emptying the bottles for them. Nige
  2. Now this beast in 1/48. It's huge. And the chap I made it for, wanted the wings fixed permamently! Hope he has a big house. Photograghy was a tad tricky so I apologise for the quality of the pics. I think this puts the size of the thing in context! Just so you can true gauge the size. Both are 1/48. It's a relatively simple build, but the huge expanse of grey and white makes a challenge for making it interesting. Hope you like. Nige.
  3. I have the Harrier pit. I'm in work at the moment, so will do a scan for you when I get home. Nige.
  4. Isopryl alcohol, Tamiya thinner and Cellulose thinners all do the job. I tend to use the Tamiya thinners. But I have been experimenting with 20% distilled water 70% isopryl alcohol and 10% retarder. It seems to give the same results as the Tamiya thinners but at a fraction of the cost. Hope that helps. Nige.
  5. Well it's all done. It's Kinetic's rendition with their etch upgrade for the pit and a set of Eduard's IDF RBF tags. It's not the best fiiting kit, but it isn't the worst fitting either. You just have to test fit everything before you commit to glue. Anyway heres the finished article. Nige.

Thanks for the compliments guys. LimyC the colours I used are Hobby Color mainly, these being: H310 Brown (FS30219) H313 Yellow (FS 33531) H308 Gray (FS 36375) for the undersides. H305 Gray (FS36118) for the radome and other sensors. The green is actually xtracrlix Sky 1007 (BS210). With regards to the pit colour I scoured the net and found pics of both black and grey. So I suppose it's all down to the specific airframe and dates. Well finished it last night before I went to work and managed to get some bad photo's of it which I need to retake. Here's a few that I managed to salvage

Cheers guys. I have re-done the canopy this evening with heavily thinned, Tamiya clear yellow. I tlooks a lot better. Pic to follow. Yes Klay, I removed them. In fact I removed every one I came across. Because if you don't they will just get in the way somewhere along the line. Nige.

Cheers for the feedback guys. I'm hoping to have it finished by Tuesday, but we shall see ;) How fast is to fast, we just had a brand new Evo 10 delivered to our traffic unit. Now thats fast and looks the part. lol. Makes the Viper look rather gay Nige.

Few more pics. I consider this kit to have entered what I term the twilight zone. Loads of effort for no visible results. The decals are all on. Sealed in and an oil wash applied then matted down. I'm really liking the look of this kit and will be sad when I have to let it go. I have tinted the forward sectionof the canopy with a mixture of Klear and yellow food colouring. But I'm not entirely happy with the result so I have stripped it back since this photo and plan to get some Tamiya clear yellow from the LHS and give that a go. I wasn't happy with the AOA probes. They were way

More work done. Decals added. Which are very nice to work with. Then I slopped some oil wash on it, which is drying as I type. Fast approaching the finish line. Nige.

If it wasn't a commision build, which he wants OOB. I would do that. But as it is, they are going onto my Sufa. :) Nige.

Done a bit more work, mainly the detail painting of the little bits dotted around the airframe. Still need to do the bird slicers and the tips of the sensors on the leading edge. The fuel tanks are just a friction fit at the moment and the nose cone held on with blu-tac. I have put a layer of Klear on and once that has hardend off over night, I will mask of and get the wheelbays all painted up. Hope you like. Nige.

And in the correct colour........ The lighter green is actually Xtracrylix Sky. Which shall be known henceforth as Xtraclog!! Well I'll put that to one side for a couple of days, whilst the paint fully cures. In the meantime its onto the undercart and missiles. Then I'll return to it and detail paint all the little bits that need doing. Nige

Bit the bullet and resprayed the green. Like the darker green better, even if it's not accurate .

Not intentionally no. I used the Israeli green from the Mr Hobby Range. (H312) which on reflection is a tad dark. Should have used H314 Bummer! So the question is do I leave it. Or attempt to rectify it and chance ballings it all up? Decisions, decisions. Sod it I'm going to leave as is, the post shading will lighten it anyway. Two days, thankyou. Nige.

I was then going to mask it up and do the main colours. But then laziness took over and I decided to go freehand instead. I'm really chuffed how it came out. For those that don't know. Th leading edges on the F-16 actually point up, when the aircraft is at rest. Weird eh? So what do you think. It was painted using Mr Hobby Acrylics and Tamiya thinners. One question though. How long does it take for this paint to completely harden off? Nige.

Well dragged myself out of my sick bed and managed to do some work on it again. I got the pre-shading on just before I was struck down by the piggy flu. Nothing really exciting but it does help with learning your way around with your airbrush.

Got all the various lumps and bumps fitted, which cover the aiframe. Along with the conformal tanks. Which give it that bad ***, don't screw with me F-16 on steriods look. All pretty easy so far, with no major problems. I did mention that I hadn't had any fit problems and had only used a minor amount of filler. Thinking about it, the reason for that is the amount of time I have taken dryfitting and making sure pieces fit before reaching for the glue. This is where it's at, at the moment. Ready for a primer. I thought I would show you it un-primed as then you can see where I did use any fill

A few more progress shots to be going on with. I really don't understand why this kit gets a slating for fit, I have only had to fill one gap so far. I've left the sprue on the rear to make sure everything stays in line. The pit doesnt look to bad once it all comes together. Still need to add the HUD repeater screen. Nothing special in this pic. I intend to paint up the MLG bay once all the fusealge is painted up. Less hassle that way. Heres that filler I had to fill a gap with. It's the white line. Unbuildable, it's unbuildable, I tell's ya!! Intake added, no problems here eit

Well the pits nearly done just the throttles to add and 4 tiny pieces of etch. First time I have used the pre painted PE. Can't say i like it. The colours are right off. To the point that I masked off the black areas and resprayed the grey as it was a funny shade of purple! The Pics also look blurred. But there not, it's the actual etch thats blurred! I also don't like the flat depthless effect it gives. Anyway here's the pics judge for yourself. Nige.

This is my second commision build, so the first a Wyvern must have been ok . This time it's Kinetics 1/48 F-16 Sufa which is used by the Israeli Airforce. I actually have this one in my stash as well. Picked up from Cosford at the beginning of the the year, if I remember correctly. I only brought it because of the amazing colour schemes the Israeli's paint their aircraft in. I had a quick look on here to get an insight on the kit before I started it. For a new kit, I was more than a little suprised at the amount of putty being used. So with a little trepidation off I went. I started of
  23. I'm not leaving the hobby, but like most people I have far more kits than I could ever build in a lifetime. And I keep adding to that number each month All the kits are unstarted. Some my have had some parts snipped from the sprue, but no paint or glue has been anywhere near them. 1/72 Aircraft Roden Heinkel 111E £15 Revell Henschel HS123A-1 £3 Airfix Grumman Widgeon/Gosling £4 Airfix Concorde £18 Airfix Bristol Mk32 Superfrieghter £8 Airfix Britten Norman Defender/Islander £5 1/48 Aircraft ICM Spitfire MK IX.
