  1. You can all form an orderly que behind me. My test shot turns up tomorrow. :)
  2. I just couldn't help myself. So heres two shots with the first decals going on. Theres just something about BMF and RAF Markings. Tony BMF is Bare Metal Finish. ( He's the guy I'm building it for.) Should be enough to keep him going. Nigel.
  3. Glad to see that both you and Mike are working on this kit. It will allow me to steal the best ideas from both of you and combine them into my build. :) Hope the house move went smoothly and we see some updates soon. Nigel.
  4. Having fondled said contraption in my horrible mitts, I still say you should go for a red and white trainer. But whatever you decide upon, I will always be right. Just like the wife. Or you could buy another 8 and do a Red Arrows in flight display for the new extension. :) I really did like the landing gear. The work you have done on them really brings them to life. Along with the resin spine insert. Comparing that to the Airfix offering really points out the limitations of the plastic injection process. Keep it up. No sleep till completion. :)
  5. Get on with the kit. From what I can gather you only started it Saturday evening. Unless you hid it from me. My Dynavector gannet is storming along. 4 years and counting. And I still haven't got the wings removed from the backing sheet. And I managed to over sand the fuselage halves. Get on with the kit you say. Baah. Apart from that, it looks like your doing a bang up job. Again. Reminds me of a Wyvern thats had a front end shunt though. :)
  6. After checking your WTB I can confirm he is. Very easy that is. :)
  7. Well not a lot to add from the last update. Just a couple of splashes of colour here and there. Planning on getting some decals on tomorrow then I'll have a look at the undercarriage. I'm planning on having it partially retracted as though she has just lifted off on a scramble to intercept an incoming Bear. While I'm sat here typing what should I use to highlight the panel lines colour wise. Black will look a bit much I think? I also e-mailed Mr Alcad abou the chrome. He says he hasn't encountered the problem with chrome but is sending me a new bottle freeof charge. Now thats customer servic
  8. Looking good. I had to check it wasn't the 1/32 version for a minute. As it would appear this is an exact scale downed copy of it. Right down to the panel fitment on the nose to the removable tail. Nigel.
  9. was I was going to enquire on Saturday why yu hadn't started a thread on this kit. Especially having seen all the work you have put into it. The photos of the wheel bays really don't do them justice. I'm all of a dither what to pull from the stash next, afte the Lightning. It may well be the Wyvern with a resin cockpit and PE wheel wells. Nigel.
  10. Not wrong about the chrome. Somebody must have been high on LSD when they labeled that. I picked up some chrome from Wilkes. It goes on well but I would suggest decanting it to your airbrush for smaller parts and better control. Initial thoughts are. Yes it simulates chrome, nearly. Not as well as Alcad. But if it stays on the plastic thats a major plus for it. Mike I'll try and drop the tin off tomorrow, before I go to work. I'll also bring the Lightning round so you can have a peak. Nigel.
  11. Nice Lightning Ian. Just one thing though. You need to spray the centre panel under the wing in chrome as well. My understanding is that this was left chromed for easier inspection of the wing spars. From what I can remember the chrome finish made it easier to spot cracks and deformation in that area. Its just a 2 minute masking job. But adds some interest to that area. I too also attempted future over the chrome. It just pooled like water on glass and wouldn't level out. Hope it goes better for you. Pete I`m out the door as we speak. Thanks for that. Tamiya chrome is just plain nasty to spr
  12. Cheers guys. Yup its all OOB as my mate has no idea, with regards to the additional cost of resin or etch. The Panel lines are as is other than those near the seams. I'm going to give Tamiya chrome a shot to see how that goes. If it fails does anybody know of a shop stocking Alcad in the Chester or Greater Manchester area? With regards to the thinners its just Halfords (a local automotive shop in the UK) own brand cellulose. Out of interest does anybody know of a aftermarket decal sheet for any variants of the lightning as I have another 4 to build for myself with all the bells and whist
  13. The whole of the airframe was then painted with Alcad Aluminum. And a few panels further picked out with Dark Aluminum. And the inspection panel under the wing in chrome. And this is where I stand so far with the airframe. So far so good. the only problem I have encountered so far is the Alcad Crhome. It lays down perfectly and gives a very convincing finish. But it just rubs off, even after leaving overnight. I think I may have picked up one of those faulty batches which won't dry. Heres the result after wiping off some fingerprints. So Mike if you have a knock at the door toni
  14. This ones being built for a very good friend of mine. Who is an ex RAF police man. The only stipulation on the build by him ,was it must be BMF. Which put me off initially as have never done one before. But seeing as I have never had anybody ask me to build them a kit before either, nor built a Lightning, in for a penny in for a pound. As they say. The kit was purchased from Ebay for a reasonable sum. But came with a horrendous warp to the left wing. I managed to get rid of this with hot water and lots of bending and cursing. I then put the wings together and fine tweaked the wing with more
  15. Having held this in my hand I can confirm thats its evry bit as nice as the photos portray. I`m sure that your Dad will be a happy man when you give it to him. Well done. PS Got the wings on the Lightning now.
  16. I have unleashed a monster. Yet another kit started. Caz will have my guts for garters if you clutter up the new extension with finished kits. Looking good as always though. About the Spit cam I think you may have sent me a pm about it but I think it but it appears to have got lost in the forum migration. Check your pm's for a description of how I did it on the Vic. Getting down to business on that Lightning now. Next time you come over I'll let you have a peek. Nigel.
  17. WOW!!! That looks fantastic. The bug really seems to have bitten hard over at your house. See you finish one and the rest will follow.
  18. Or go to your local chemist, seek out the dental hygeine section and buy some of the small brushes designed to replace dental floss or clean braces. They come in several differant sizes and are perfect for the job. Thats what I use on my 360. Nigel.
  19. Yet another reason to go out and celebrate. Looks great. The pre shade came out well on the tail. What next, have you got the bug to actually finish them now. Will you be needing more shelves from Ikea? Happy New Year Nigel.
  20. Onwards and upwards. Its looking great, two days left to go. If you used Xtracrylix paint, I only leave it a couple of hours before futuring then leave it overnight before decalling.

    Dan's Vulcan

Wow, what can you say. From the ashes to the ....eer....ashes i suppose. Absolutely fantastic. Really sad to look at, yet compelling. Portrays the fallen warrior very well. I just can't stop myself admiring it. After all the outstanding builds we see on this site of pristine, airworthy, aircraft this is the one that has captivated me the most. I think I'll need to get a second Vulcan after seeing this. Very well done Dan. And I feel for you, having never seen her fly. The classic right hand turn with the bay doors open, just before she goes nearly vertical on full thrust. It took my breath aw
  22. Any new updates James? Been a while, wondered if you had completed it yet?
  23. You know me. Subtle with just a dash of sarcasm.
