  1. Good to hear you had a good night. Unfortunately I'm usually the drunken monkey with no inhibitions. Looking good on the Christmas deadline. Funny you should have chose this kit as I have just brought IL2-1946 a new flight sim, sort of, which features this aircraft. Bit of a factoid for you. Did you know that this aircraft would never have flown in this form due to the inherant weakness of the tail to fuselae joint andwould have needed serious modifications in order to reach its design goals. If you finish it tonight, I will gladly except it as a birthday present tomorrow.
  2. I had to do that last weekend. Much Guinness was downed that night.
  3. I must admit, I would have found a much more therapeutic way of using that hammer after watching your struggles with this kit. Are we still on for the Xmas completion? Nigel.
  4. I don't see much progress here. The clocks ticking Santas saddling up and powering up his GPS.
  5. I have two of these ready to be started. Along with two BB pits, two Eduard PE frets and 1 flightpath update set. I think I'll get one Paragon flap set and one flightpath flap and spoiler set then I'm ready to go. Apart from decals. I'll let you go first. Gives me time to finish my Lightning. Oi, Mike any more updates on the quick build?
  6. Don't you find that this countries leglislations get stranger and stranger by the day. Next thing you know criminals in prison will have the right to vote. Oh the European Courts have just said they can :D .
  7. I`ll think you will find that MDC stock the whole range not just the boxed sets. In fact if memory serves they are the only outlet that stocks them in the UK. If you give them a ring they are very helpful and their delivery is super fast. Nigel.
  8. That instrument panels looks the mutts. Just keep going I want to see it finished by next weekend :D . Just having that one completed kit in your collection spurs you on to finish the rest. I really does. And Caz will see why you spend all those hours alone in the garage. I've started that Lightning and the Berna clamps we got at the show are very good I may well order some more. Fancy a bulk purchase? Nigel.
  9. I have just posted up the same type of thing up in the jet forum. Only I have shoe horned the Legend's resin cockpit in with the minimum of fuss. My main area of concern is the nose area, its so square. Hopefully nothing that a bit of sanding won't cure though. Nice bit of painting on the pit. I will be following this build, as mine will be built after an Airfix Lightning for a mate. Nigel.
  10. Firstly the Legends resin cockpit fits a treat. Only took me ten minutes or so to get it to this stage. So gettig a really good fit should be dead easy. (He says ) And once the resin plug has been cut from thr bottom of the pit it doesn't foul the nose wheel bay. Result! Now for the bad. The nose, now I don't claim to be a expert on this aircraft by any stretch of the imagination, but it just doesn't look right to me. It looks far to square. I hope I'm wrong but even if I am I don't think it will take more than ten minutes with a sanding stick to put it right. Have a look at the pics an
  11. I have started to use the Xtracrylix range and have just painted my Victor using only Xtracrylix through my airbrush. I found that you have to thin them more than they recommend and like all arylics dust the paint on in layers. When applied well the Xtracrylix range dry perfectly smooth. So smooth in fact that I may well, in future, dispense wtih the gloss coat prior to decaling. Once fully dry they set rock hard. After talking to several others about them I let them cure for 24 hours before masking over the top of them. I prime with Halfords acrylic primer and sand that smooth before applyi
  12. Well I didn' spend all my money, but enough none the less. Let me see. 1/ 1/48 Trumpeter Wellington. Bargain at £45 2/ Master Casters wheels for the above. 3/ Three Neomega 1/48 cockpits for the Tornada, Jaguar and Frogfoot. 4/ CMK resin nav lights and etched gun sights. 5/ CMK 1/48 EE Lightning two seat conversion. along with the resin control surfaces. Couldn't find a kit to go with it so I might go down to Shifnal tomorrow. 6/ New Italeri 1/48 A-10. Definetly worth £14.50. 7/ Berna clamps. 8/ Two cans of Mr Surfacer. 9/ MDC rivetting sets, 1/48 & 1
  13. I`m the one at the top right not aware the photo was being taken. White T-shirt left hand in the small of my back. The chap stood to the left with the white shirt is Mike and the guy just in front of me dark hair, light grey jacket is Skii. Much fondling of the Trump Welly has now taken place along with the new mouldings of the A-10 from Italiera and all the CMK & Noemega resin. And just to clarify the A-10 is a new moulding with the options of either pre laste or post. That should keep our American friends happy. (Apart from the crap cockpit, but I'm not assed as I have the Legends resi
  14. Mike, I have the complete set of old 1/32 Matchbox kits, I'll dig out the 109 for Saturday morning and let you fondle it. But you can't dribble on it. By the way MDC do some updates or the Spit. New nose and props if I recall.
  15. OOOOOH you wait till I see caz Me I`ve squirelled away away much wonga. So maybe a new airbrush, 1/48 welly, entire xrtacrylix range, silent compressor (the old one keeps scaring Mike) lots of tools and decals. Resin you can never have enough resin. And books and any other stuff that catches my eye. I'm getting all worked up. 1/48 Lightning that will make 6 I have. Can't have enough of them. Oh yeh, Flightpath update set for the Vulcan. And a two seater conversion for the Lightning. And some Eduard pre painted belts all countries all scales. (For the full visual effect imagine I am running
  16. Nudging this back on topic a bit. But I have just ran back from the IPMS UK website and the SMW 2006 forum. On there they have a list of traders who will be there. It states this list is accurate as of 13/11/06 and Airfix is on it. So maybe I'll get to see that Lifeboat after all. Cool. Nigel.
  17. To be honest I haven`t tried any sort of masking with them yet, come to think of it I have yet to use them properly on a kit. Like yourself I`m leaning towards the Xrtacrylix range at the moment. I think the secret to them is to let them cure for 24 hours before you mask them. Then if the paint does peel of its only in very tiny amounts and can be invisibly repaired with the quick dab of a brush. Sorry I couldn't be of more help.

  19. yeh I have tried the new Revel Aqua did a mini review some months ago. Heres a linky. There not bad. I have virtually switched completely to acrylic now after being a life long Humbrol enamel user. They took some getting used, but I perservered and think my results with them are comparable if not better than my results with enamels. I`m now using mainly Vallejo and Xtracrylix.
  20. Like eveybody has said they are the bird slicers which form part of the ccip upgrade. I used them on my in conjunction with the splendid decal sheet from Afterburner. As the Tamiya decals don't feature a ccip bird. And here they are, fitted.
  21. Do you have a link for those instructions?
  22. They just did a rather interesting interview with the MD of Hornby on Radio 2. When asked what his plans were for the brand he said. "We intend to produce accurate, top quality products, which, at first tailor to the experts in the hobby. Much like we have for the Hornby range. Then move onto products specifically aimed at the younger age group and new comers to the hobby." Sounds good to me. Let the good times roll and bring on the RNLI lifeboat. Nigel.
  23. A certain magazine just did a mini review on this kit. And whilst it wasn't a glowing, it fell well short of identifying what an expensive, poorly manufactured, lump of short shot plastic it is. Every time I look at it, I shudder at the thought of nearly laying down nearly 50 dabs on it. But that being said, Mike is battling his way through and making a good job of it. That wing was just the icing on the cake though. It was no fault of Mikes, just a very poor moulding. On both wings! Jeez! My prediction is that it will be done for Christmas.
  24. Wow. Now that is some advanced weathering. Nigel.
