  1. Looking great so far! It will be fun to see this conversion when conpleted. Are you planning on adding the spin chute?
  2. I couldn't help myself and voted for a new tool 1/32 tomcat... Its big. I know. But it would be oh so cool.
  3. A BIG update. This is my first in progress, so I'm not all that good at keeping it updated. It is easier for me to work on my model instead of taking pictures along the way. So scribing is done. A big process. But, I've also learned alot..... of patience. There are many scribing flaws if you look closely, but it looks good. I'm just not that anal retentive as a modeler. Scribing is kinda fun, dare I say, but the sanding and scribing takes alot of time! Anyway, I have the day off of work, so I had mucho time to work on the model. I wont be adding ECM blisters, as I'm just to lazy to scratch
  4. No nose weight is needed. She'll sit down on the front gear.
  5. I little update... Cockpit is almost complete. Its all OOB. (I'm cheap). Not bad for me in 1/48 (I do mostly 1/32). I've also made a simple pitot using a safety pin. Not exactly scale, but it looks good. I've attached the lower and upper fuselage halves, with patience the forward fuselage can go together with minimal filler. The nose seemed to be wider than the fuselage, so lots of sanding was done, and more to come! With scribing... I can make good lines, but they seem to be full of leftover "junk" if you know what I mean. they just dont seam very clean. I'm using a pin vise and labeling
  6. Well, not only is this my first group build, but also my first in progress thread, so wish me luck! Im using the 1981 boxing of monograms Tomcat. That has its pros and cons. The kit has a nice nose shape, which some of the later boxings seemed to have screwed up. But No pitot tube. Also, no ecm bumps through out the plane. I'm re-scribing the kit, which is not easy for me. But with some time and patience it is working out. I'm still waiting on some scribing templates to come into the mail. I've done some of the oval shapes freehand, but it is too nerve racking. I'll wait for the template. I
  7. I'm in with a 1/48 Monogram F-14A with VF-201 Hunters Decals. Time to start scribing :-)
  8. I'll take ANY 1/32 tomcat sheet. Also ...... a 1/48 NASA viking......please!
  9. Did we open up the real aviation forum again? sure feels like it.
  10. Hi guys, Earlier this summer I had the awesome opportunity to fly front seat in a super cub in an around the mountains in Anchorage. It was AWESOME. B) I would like to build the 1/32 revell kit and represent the bird that I flew. However, I need tundra tires and an 50 lb cargo pod. I know it is a long shot, but are there any aftermarket options for these? I'm hoping at least the tires, as they would be a bugger to scratchbuild. notice ear to ear smile! Any help would be appreciated guys! thanks!
  11. Is this project still a go? Just wanted to double check.
  12. I have the true details set. And while it is not the best quality resin I've seen, it is much better than the kit detail. For $12 you can't go wrong with it.
  13. What is the story with the larger, wider spine on this bird? What kind of modification was it?
  14. ... 1/32 Practice bombs? like the BDU-33, BDU-48, etc.? I have Thud and I want to hang something unique under it. Has it ever been produced by an after market company, or even in a mainline kit? Thanks!
  15. I have a similar question (Sorry if I hijack the thread)... was the centerline tank used in later years, say early 1980s?
  16. Snake, If you dont mind me asking, what decal sheet will you be using for the build?
  17. Ive never had any luck with the stuff. I cracked my academy hornet canopy and thought I'd give it a shot. complex curves are a no go. even then, you have to cut out the canopy perfectly. One miss cut, and your back at square one. aye, I need some patience.
  18. yeah, the pit slides in. It makes it nice if you dont want to start off with the cockpit.
  19. Brian, That sheet looks awesome! If you decide to print it, count me in for a few sheets.
  20. Eric, beautiful! what brand paint did you use for the Dark Gull Grey? It looks just right!
  21. email sent. Thinking of Vf-213 last cruise.
  22. Nick(or anyone who can help), How often was the sparrow loaded on VF-213's last cruise? Was it carried often, or did the leave the left station empty? thanks for the info. Edit: After looking on the navy.mil site, I didn't see any sparrows loaded. It also seems like only one sidewinder was ever loaded, is this generally correct?
  23. I'm in! I have a Skyray that needs to be built. Its not exactly the first delta winged plane you think of....but what the heck.
