  1. That news story tugs at the heart strings of any parent. There's a part of you that prays that your own child never has to go through what Kyra is experiencing. My sincerest hope is that she gets better and lives a long and healthy life. Kudos to the men and women in the Navy who made Kyra's day possible at NAS Kingsville.
  2. Well...that was definitely ON a Spitfire. Glad to see you got a once in a lifetime experience with a beautiful ol' warbird.
  3. Beauty shots, Dylan. :) I need to get out there again sometime. Plant myself on 26R just outside the fence. :)
  4. Oh, come on... I've been called everything from "slant...Jap...etc...etc..." Do I give a flying piece of smelly biological matter? No. Because I'm 43 and I've got much better things to be worried about in life than someone calling me names. And frankly as far as I'm concerned. 4 pilots not noticing the altitude indicator pretty much ruined their reputation for them already. People really do need to grow a pair nowadays. As I said to some other thin-skinned asian person on FB over the to-doo that they were getting into about the "names". Think about it. There's a lot worse things t
  5. Almost gave the guys standing there a jet exhaust haircut.
  6. C'est tres merveilleux! Yves. Merci beaucoup. Les Voodoo est magnifique. Les photos; il fait beau. Now that I have exhausted what I remember of my high-school French. Absolutely beautiful. I hope that you'll put up more as you finish scanning them. I have seen the Patrouille de France in Abbotsford during 1986 as well as Frecce Tricolori. That was quite the airshow in '86 in time for Expo 86.
  7. ~SMH~ Roughly on par with Aviana Airlines sueing KVTU for "defamation and damage to business prestige". I'm sorry, 4 pilots in a cockpit that don't notice the "altitude indicator" pretty much did THAT for you already.
  8. Rats...and I was thinking that it was this kind of sidewinder. Yep, funny animation... Liked the "Abandon Missiiiiiiile" at the end.
  9. You'd be surprised...and the complaints will probably flood in pretty soon (We live on a main thoroughfare that leads to Surrey Memorial Hospital, which is also constructing a trauma unit which will be the focus point for all emergencies involving trauma south of the Fraser River) since the hospital about 2 blocks east of where we live is undergoing expansion. On the roof there will be a helipad which will accommodate air ambulances. I'm sure there will be some schmucks who'll complain about the increase in noise and in traffic. Frankly as far as I'm concerned, I could care less about the c
  10. Frankly, I'd be happy to buy up the properties of the people who buy near an airport and complain about the jet noise... at 5 cents on the dollar. Hey...tough luck. You wanna complain and then try to recoup the loss? They deserve to be taken to the cleaners. Call it harsh, but don't expect sympathy. Frankly if you didn't notice an airport prior to your purchasing a home right next to it...there is no hope for you. That also goes for those who buy across from the hospital and complain about ambulances running to the emergency ward. People who complain about the noise coming from a mall
  11. My wife seems to aid and abet my hobbies. And that is the reason, gentlemen, that I have my 600mm f/4 lens. That is also the reason I have 58 kits in my stash. Now if only I could kick my @$$ in gear and start building 'em. :(
  12. Paul, that is an awesome photo set. I like how you've gone around with the camera and gave us an idea of what the model shops are like around your area. If only more bloggers would do that sort of thing. Come to think of it, I should do that for some of the hobby shops around Lower Mainland neck of the woods. :)
  13. Pretty much says it all... Litvyak. http://globalnews.ca/news/701992/railway-owners-in-lac-megantic-explosion-had-brakes-fail-before/ http://news.nationalpost.com/2013/07/08/could-be-years-before-some-victims-of-lac-megantic-train-explosion-are-identified-coroners-office-warns/ Can't imagine how angry and disgusted that the relatives of the ID'd victims and those still missing feel to have the president of MMA Railway whine about hate-letters and joke about the potential for being shot when their relatives are more than likely dead. I feel absolutely no sympathy whatsoever for Burkha
  14. I'm sure there's a lot of things that could have been done to prevent it, but I don't think the relatives of the people lost care about that right now. They've lost family and loved ones and the MMA Railway needs to recognize that rather than casting blame around elsewhere. The people of Lac Megantic are angry and rightfully so.
  15. Lost in the headlines was this tragic event that happened in Lac Megantic on the same day that San Francisco International had their Aviana 777 crash. All I could find were articles on the Aviana crash that day while 4 people lost their lives on the same day in Lac Megantic. http://www.cbc.ca/news/canada/montreal/story/2013/07/09/lac-megantic-quebec-train-explosion.html The current death toll is 15 people and is expected to continue to rise. There are currently 40 people missing still. All because a railway exec decided to cut corners and safety-margins. Authorities are considering "cr
  16. So asking the question about whether "Blue Angel Blue" on a F9F-8T (Blue Angel 7) is slightly lighter than the current USN "Blue Angel Blue" and how to co-ordinate that with the color of said aircraft on May 7, 1957 at NAS Pensacola, FL at 1545PM in the afternoon while sitting on the tarmac on display... :P would get me labelled as a color-counter as opposed to a rivet counter?
  17. It'll be a nice long road trip for my kids, my wife and me. :) All the way from British Columbia. :) Flying there would make it so I wouldn't be able to bring my long-lens (I don't think the 600mm would fit on carry-on and I don't want to put it in cargo (too much invested in the lens)).
  18. Caught this beautiful Air Canada airliner coming in Runway 26R And damned near freaked out the poor Captain with the 600mm f/4 ...as well as making other airplane spotters out at the east end of Runway 26R at YVR today drip with envy. I think security came out to talk with the airplane spotters at the end of the runway. :D Me...I was already over at Iona Beach Regional Park by then. Saw the security guy talkin' with the spotters out there as we went past along Templeton to go pick my wife up at the Richmond Library. ~smug~. The above shot was cropped in from this one:
  19. "SO...When is the new Tamigawa Fruitbat Mk IVc going to be released? I've been waiting for that damned kit for YEARS!!!"
  20. Happy July 4th. Legal drinking age in most provinces is 19...and Quebec is 18. We'll raise a cold one for ya, eh?
  21. And this Canada Day, we're co-opting your national bird, eh? It's the NORTH American Bald Eagle. :P Happy Canada Day, eh? Now that that's over and done with, pass me a two-four...ya hoser!
  22. Doesn't True Details have a set of 1/48 scale helmets? Saw them sold at Aeroscale. http://www.aeroscale.co.uk/modules.php?op=modload&name=Reviews&file=index&req=showcontent&id=7641 But this looks way more realistic than a resin helmet.
  23. I would keep the A Stabs on the trees. Just cut enough of the plastic rod holding the part it so that you don't have the whole part tree...when you are casting the Urethane RTV for the two part mold. http://www.smooth-on.com/Urethane-Plastic-a/c5_1120/index.html - That way you're able to have something to hold onto when you're separating the part from the two-part mold. Here's an how-to on "how to create a two part mold. Phasephantomphixer - there's details on both sides that need to be recreated with the replacement resin part, so thus the reasoning for the two part mold.
  24. Thanks, Dylan... I couldn't get the reg # off the rear quarter of the aircraft; because I didn't have the "angle" on the A330. :D
  25. Sorry, yesterday, but here's Air North C-GANJ heading out on Runway 26R; after takeoff. This is what a Boeing 737-548 looks like in a viewfinder of a D300s/600mm f/4 II D IF-ED. God I ~bleeping~ LOVE this lens!!! This was shot from Iona Beach Regional Park. I think the first officer is looking at me...wondering "What the ~bleep~ is THAT???!!!" Now, I just have to hang out with the 600mm out by the landing area by 26R. I figure I'd probably scare the living bejeepers out of the pilot seeing that big lens pointed at them; not to mention having security all over me. Well...hell...it
