  1. Hi guys, i'd like to share a model of the F-18D ATARS that i built about a year ago. πŸ™‚ It's in 1/48 scale and is actually a conversion into the ATARS version out of the HobyBoss F-18D kit. The Atars pod is from Arma Hobby and the mask set is from DM Models. A perfect match! There is plenty of PE, cables and other scrathbuilt details in it too. The tiger stripes are not decals, but masks indeed, and the painting was done it a couple of layers. Sorry that i didn't posted pics from the build but here is the full-build video. πŸ˜‰ Cheerz! And first check out some pics... This is the origi
  2. HI πŸ™‚ The easiest thing to do is perhaps to just glue the MLGs at a slight angle backwards, by pivoting them on their actual spots for gluing. There should be 2 pins at the base of the pylons (where they fit in the bays). If i remember correctly, these two spots (little pins) per pylon are in a slightly angled position inside the bay so if you just "retract" the gear - it should perfectly fit inside the bay. Of course it doesnt, because the oleos are extended and the gear has the shape as for a parked model sitting on its wheels. I would go with further cutting of the main joints and gluing th
  3. Thanks very much, Captain! πŸ™‚ I appreciate it!
  4. Hi, and yep, most of them are sadly "invisible". It has something to do with postimage.org which i use for image hosting. Quite some time ago there was a period when all the uploaded pics couldnt be displayed any more. I have no idea why. Then it was ok again. And i still keep using it cause all the pics are just fine... for many many months now. Just like before with postimage. It is a free and very simple/easy platform for uploading and sharing pics. I hope this was a one-off problem and will not be repeated. Meanwhile, πŸ™‚ i have my builds updated on several forums and this is a l
  5. You nailed the colors! I like how it looks overall. And that subtle weathering.... Beautiful Phantom!
  6. There you go πŸ™‚ This one is without flashlight:
  7. "What about the display? It really keeps me wondering why such a beautiful build has no landing gear." Oh it has. They are even retractable to allow two display modes, in flight and parked. Checkout the making of. It's at the first page still, from this post on. While for the in-flight mode, it will be a long pylon from a wooden base. I'll take some pics in a jiffy...
  8. Congrats on your 1K post Mr Foley! πŸ™‚ Btw i took some pics with the golden shines of the sunrise:
  9. Yeah :) it was a completely different experience. My first time making a model of a pure bomber. Just about everything is different... The shape is for subsonic speeds, the wings are thicker, and this plane is one giant wing. I thought that it is black since I was a kid, but it's not. The proportions, of cockpit to the wings leading edge size for example, are different and all this made me feel like I made a quite different kind of a model. I liked it very much.
  10. Guys, first thanks very much for the nice comments! Here are a few pics at daylight and one with flashlight. I have not started the exhaust decks yet, but i think i'll need to enjoy it just like that for a little while πŸ™‚ Then i plan on some subtle weathering - very little salt weathering, oil paints, etc., but until then, here she is in its full cleanliness and satin shine:
  11. Check it out guys πŸ™‚ That's the last masking for the outermost satin lacquer coat. PS: This is at nighttime with flashlight: The masks are off and the canopy masks are off too... shes goooorgeous... i dont have much words right now πŸ™‚
  12. Nighttime, unmasked, with artificial light.... Checkout the reflections of the patterns. πŸ˜‰
  13. Decals, more masking, blue filtering. I'll need to polish her quite nicely...
  14. Top side time πŸ™‚ This is how it looks after the initial masking and filtering:
  15. It's very good overall! The lower fuselage might have been a little bit more weahtered, but still it looks awesome!
  16. It certainly looks absolutely fascinating! I especially like that metalic shine. These MRP paints must be a real wonder. And the low-wis markings.... beauty, beauty!
  17. The panel lines are too contrasting to me, but overall it looks beautiful! And the light weathering is very nice.
  18. Congrats on getting it started. Make it for a great build! Plenty of options with that much parts... πŸ™‚
  19. 10x guys! Steve, yep, i gotta fix them πŸ˜‰ The unmasking went well though. It lifted the paint at only a coupe of tiny spots. Here is the beast at daylight. The underfuselage trials went well... I'm very happy with the changes in colors according to the angle. I'm only wondering if the overall color needs some tiny little bit of blue nuance. Here she is:
  20. Decals + further masking/partial unmasking + the final lacquer filter:
