  1. The AWACS Block30/35 ESM uprade, with the side 'cheeks', nose and tail bumps was availble in resin form from a line called 'AWACS Resins' back in the late '90's/early 2000's (around the time of OAF) from a guy in Italy who was a NATO AWACS member. They're long out of production, and never found them anywhere...at that time, they were available from Linden Hill.... He also made the correct TF-33 engines (like the DB/FLightPath versions).... When making a USAF AWAC, don't forget to add the Have Siren IR detectors to the engine pylons. Mike
  2. According to Anthony Thornborough's excellent book, 'Iron Hand', DDD&C/C = "Don's Dirty Dozen & Crew Chiefs"; I think the Don referes to Lt Col Donald J Parkhurst, commander (?) of the 67th TFS, and he took six F-4C WW-IV's and nine crews to Korat RTAFB HTH Mike
  3. In addition to the above mentioned items, the MUCEL antenna (the four flying-saucer like antenna on the bottom of the aircraft) are mounted on broad bases, which are not included in the kit, so you'll have to make your own. Mike
  4. Yup, wish TwoBobs, Afterburner, SuperScale, etc would to a VA ANG F-16 line jet or two....would love to do a nice VA Viper with a PIDS and Recce Pod on the centerline....not a very common load... Mike
  5. Looking at the EXIF data as others have, the camera was set to manual in the exposure modes; thus, likely either caught off guard as Chappie suggests, or perhaps simply he was trying to pan the shot..... As for the noise, agree with the over-sharpening.....he may have also tied to crop a very distant shot.... Nice shots from Jan, though-can't quite see the SDB dispensor... Mike
  6. Dave, Great pix! East Coast weather certainly cooperating for your photos and their return! Nice to see SHARP pods on a couple of the Bones; anyone have any idea about the centerline store on 210? Looks like a guidance pod... Keep the images coming Dave! Cheers, Mike
  7. Just to clarify about Cobra Company, Chris suspended operations and is planning on re-opening around June 1st after some re-organizing. See: http://www.arcforums.com/forums/air/index....howtopic=120820 So, hopefully the ALQ-188 will be available from him again shortly. HTH Mike
  8. My bad; your right, of course; just checked, and the TwoBobs sheets features two F/A-18D's ATARS, VMF(AW)-224 & -242. Looking forward to the future MAW release; glad I've got a few of the Black Box ATARS conversions in the stash!!!!! Mike
  9. Dave, By my records, you have two choices: 1. TwoBobs sheet 48-048, VMF(AW)-224, with 'Tiger Stripes' on fuselage. 2. MAW Decals sheet 48-001, VMF(AW)-522, low vis markings Both are hard to find these days, although MAW is considering a reprint. HTH. Mike
  10. True, don't have FDIC insurance here, and can't appeal to any 'Board' of a company.... ....while many of the people in this industry and hobby are great, there are the occasional slime-balls that wreck it for the rest of us.... ....don't know how to answer the question. Again, just trying to throw a positive idea out there... ...anyone have any further ideas? Mike
  11. Fellow Modelers, WIth the recent announcement by Chris at Cobra Company ( a helicopter modeling company for the most part, but some nice jet stuff as well, for those not familiar with him) of suspension of operations due to a poor financial situation, I got to thinking about how to help him now and in the future, as well as a general thoughts about supporting cottage industry/small model companies and their long-term survival..... I'd like to start the discussion/debate on thoughts on 'investing' in these small companies (Afterburner, TwoBobs, Paragon, etc). That is, we as individual modeler

That is, we as individual modelers, buy 'shares' offered by the companies, so that they get an operating budget to get them through hard times, use for development of new products, equipm
  13. Mike, Mark and all other C-135 fans, By my records, 1/72nd KC-135R decal sheets include: 1. IPMS 1994 Sheet- a. KC-135R 59-1495, 'City of Lincoln', overall FS 26173 gray b. RC-135V 64-14845 c. EC-135C 62-3581, Pacer Link upgraded aircraft. 2. VM decal sheet 72-001 a. KC-135R 23499, 22nd ARW, McConnel AFB- First aircraft with MPRS b. KC-135R 71432, 117th ARW, AL ANG 3. 14. Jake, Yeh, when you get a chance, would love to see the -135's! Thanks! Mike
  15. Jake, Any chance you took photos of any of the -135's attending, and especially the E-6B TACAMO? Great shots- how do I get a job like yours?!!!! Cheers, Mike
  16. Fuji, SuperScale did two sheets that are kinda close, but not quite an exact match; 48-328 & 655 are both low vis with the 'Flying Reaper', but the 'AD' code spans the entire rudder of the verticle stabilizer, not the smaller area your reference photos suggest...... Still, you may be able to adapt them for your use... HTH Cheers, Mike
  17. I know that Jim Rotramel has done a lot of research on the F-111 loads, especially Combat Lancer, so the weapons chart referenced is likely accurate; hopefully he'll chime in with his input, as to if the trapeze/AIM-9B was carried or not.... ....Jim???? Mike
  18. If you got to the DoD still media website, http://www.dodmedia.osd.mil/DVIC_View/Still_Search.htm and search "A-10 Cool Snow Hog", you'll come up with about a half a dozen photos, which are available as hi-res downloads. Unfortunetely, many of the photos were originally taken very far from the aircraft. HTH Mike
  19. Hey, Gordon and Darren, what ever happened to the planned release of your 'Fiesty Felines' F-14 decal sheet you announced at the Nats? Still a possibility for a future SB Decals release? Thanks. Mike

    Eagles!!!

Kinda neat to see the re-enforcement straps on the outer portions of the wings- don't see those very often. Jeff, could you post some images of the MPRS pods & wing/fuselage floodlights when you get back? Thanks. Mike
  21. Another photo of interest is in the old Wings of Fame Journal, Volume 4, in the article, 'USAFE 1970-1979', showing a color photo of an F-4D of the 401st TFW 'TJ' with the SUU-16/23 gunpod mounted on the left inboard pylon, complete with sidewinder launch rails in place. Back end of the gunpod is obscured by the left wing drop tank, so can't see if its the short or conical endcap. Not sure if its a transport or show configuration, as a travel pod is mounted on the right inboard, and three drop tanks are mounted. Mike
  22. Can anyone clarify the squadrons and color schemes of the overall gray P-3C aircraft featured on the latest VM Decals sheet 72-001. The first aircraft on the instruction sheet appears to be a lighter gray than the remaining overall gray aircraft; not sure if this is correct or not, and if so, what FS numbers the overall gray aircraft should be, including the lighter vs the darker aircraft. ALso, no sure what squadron the 'Knights Head' aircraft is from, and think the instruction sheet may be misprinted; any thoughts or comments? Thanks. Mike
  23. Can anyone point me to any additional photos or info on the AF/MIT 'Paul Revere' 707 testbed aircraft operated by the USAF through Hanscom? I've seen a couple of photos, including those at Jet Photo: http://www.jetphotos.net/showphotos.php?cn...amp;manu=Boeing But still trying to see if any additional info or images might be available. Ultimately, I think it would be a really nice 1/72nd modleing project starting with the Heller kit, but as you can see from the photos, lots of 'lumps and bumps' have to be added, so looking for references. Thanks. Mike

  25. According to Don Logan's Book, 'The Boeing C-135 Series', the KC-135R's modified are: 58-0011 58-0018 58-0124 58-0126 60-0356 60-0357 60-0362 61-0293 Interestingly, he notes that this capability was added by Boeing for some aircraft, LTV to others. This appendix also lists all the RC/EC/C/WC/-135 aircraft with the Air Refueling Receiver capability. Jeff, any possiblity of posting a photo of the -Q/T enclosed spot light under the boom you mentioned? Or maybe a link to a photo or reference? Thanks... HTH Mike
