  1. Wow..that is VERY nice! I read the book at age 12 or so, and it stayed with me since, I've yet to see a film rendidtion that is worth comparing to the book (Not having seen Pendragon's yet tho). one day, perhaps, we may get a decent miniseries out of it tho Alvis 3.1
  2. Reading this, I found myself making the mewling sound of the animated red alert noise... Somebody, send me to bed! Alvis 3.1 oh, and the animation of this WAS worse than the Star Wars animated series, but almost 25 years separates the two shows...
  3. A sad day. He will be missed, and remembered. Al Petrie
  4. I consider Eric M brown one of the best authoritative authors to have dealt in this very subject, as he flew most of the major trypes of aircraft used in WW II on both Allied and Axis sides, excepting Soviet types. He's down in the record books as having flown more types of aircraft than any other person. He wrote a book called "Duels in the Sky" that compares WWII Naval aviation aircraft. Interestingly, the cover art on my issue has a F4U and a FW 190 mixing it up! He rates a Corsair II against a Bf-109G-6: The bf's engine would have had an advantage at low level, but not a medium level. I
  5. Go for flight....I've got goosebumps! In case of a serious enough issue with the orbiter..it's crew would go aboard the ISS and await pick-up...but...I've not heard anything on what the outcome would be for the damaged vehicle...an in orbit repair would be the only option, but so far NASA hasn't had a great degree of confidence in most of the fix kits...I'd hate to think they'd be forced to drop her unmanned into the ocean somewhere... BUT! None of this shall pass I sincerely hope! Best of luck Discovery and crew! Alvis 3.1 Space cadet since Glenn's flight
  6. well...my spin is that it was a Nazi saucer left over from WW II trying to steal nuclear grade uranium/plutonium but it hit a weather balloon from Roswell AFB and crashed....see link... http://s96920072.onlinehome.us/Gal1/401-50...es/Saucer_1.jpg Alvis 3.1
  7. Trekkie mode "ON" Before the Enterprise arrived at SpaceDock...she had been already badly damaged by Khan's attack....however...what we didn't see were the frantic efforts of Scotty and his trainee crew trying to keep the ship together...Spocks sacrifice was heroic and timely, but the whole engineering safeties had beem seriously compromised. Several small packets of anti matter had to be ejected, and immediately exploded outside the ship's shields, which were already weakened. Also, several units of warp drive machinery and impulse propulsion systems were jury rigged, and the final fast jump
  8. OoooOOoo....Cool!!! Was the Hip covered in a bunch of Cyrillic lettering? I recall an old IPMS Canada having apic of one somewhere in Saskabush with a lot of writing upon it....some commemorative concept if I recall corrrectly..... Alvis 3.1
  9. There was also a film shot near Calgary Alberta in the late 80's with a Sikorsky S-55 done up in Mock Soviet colours...it sacred the bejeebers outta me..I HEARD it coming...eventually I SAW it coming...and when I noticed the desert camo i thought to myself...."That's odd...why is Isreal sending stuff to Canada to test out?"...then it flew across my line of sight and i saw the red stars on it....I gotta tell ya....1988 was a MUCH scarier time than now! I ACTUALLY thought we had been invaded...for about 3 seconds..then remembered the film being shot nearby. It starred Roy Scheider and was about
  10. Cool! Do the future StingRays still have fibreglass shells, or is it a more esoteric composit material? V8's still? Bullet shaped brake lights? And most importantly, can you hang a garter from the rear view mirror??? Alvis 3.1
  11. Well, I didn't mind the theme music/song...the one series I didn't like the opening music for was DS-9...it put me to sleep more than once! I hope they do a lil mid life refit into the whole frnachise...give it a rest and make it better....I for one thought a BattleStar Galactica remake was a tremondous mistake, but have been proven wrong. The Trek franchise is exactly that...a money making unit that is run by various entities...an like any good franchise, it can be run properly again. Myself, I'd liked to have seen an anthology based series, where they don't necessarily follow any one given
  12. Oh.... My..... God..... (Sound of Alvis falling unto his Exacto knife) Thats unbelievable! Talk about silk purse outta a sow's ear! My god man..thats amazing!!!! Alvis 3.1
  13. true if it has taken on a real us vs them mentality..which it hasn't...it has however turned into one of the funniest examples of how a weasel really can't fly with eagles....too bad the weasel had to screw around such a good person... Alvis 3.1
  14. Well, always nice to see trusting people being done over, makes my heart just warm to the core..... NOT!!! Unbelieveable! B-17 Steve, you've been given enough rope...now pay the guy and let the matter move on, okay? Show you have some trace of human decency..... Alvis 3.1
