  1. Those would be ailerons/flaperons vice flaps, and dropping them slightly would be most appropriate since they drooped after hydraulic power was removed (as after shut down). Gene K
  2. Thanks Gabriel - I'll give it a try. Gene K
  3. Gabriel , A little off topic: I really enjoy your presentation technique of having small thumbnails which open to larger images. Is there a tutorial on line that explains how to do that? Thanks for a great in-progress study. Gene K
  4. To elaborate a little on the wing bottom when making a B conversion from the J kit: sanding and rescribing the main wing bottom is easy, but flattening the speed brakes and gear doors is a little trickier. Heating the parts in hot water (not boiling...) and judicious bending with the help of flat pliers will greatly reduce the sanding required (cover the "gripers" of the pliers with double stick carpet tape to protect the plastic from scratches, etc) . Sand only on the outside of the parts, saving the internal detail. No need to reduce fat tires - the J kit comes with both wide and skinny.
  5. Buy a Hasegawa J kit to make a J...and to make a B, modify a J kit with the corections Dave noted above (the Hasegawa B/N kits are not scribed). Depending on early or late B, you can use unslotted or slotted stabs, and differing chin fairings and fin caps. The bulged J wings are thick enough that you can "easily" sand them flat and rescribe lost panel lines (top of wing is easier than bottom). Gene K
  6. Note that the pointy end is the front. Gene K
  7. Jim, Is this the USN travel pod? Gene K
  8. I know that the USAF uses MXU-648 (modified napalm cannister) as a travel pod. What does the USN use (pointy in front, round in back)? Are these available in 1/48 and 1/72 scale? Gene K
  9. Ted, Does your Special Interst Group have a website or a discussion group? Couldn't find anything on the IPMS(UK) SIG page. Gene K
  10. Bill, Thanks - I got all that straight now. What about the wing tanks - is my assumption correct that they were McDonnell versus Sgt Fletcher? I only have a few photos, and they appear to show the McDonnell ("lateral line" on middle of tank and more curved center section). Know of any scale drawings of the tanks? Resin or plastic "conversions" ? Gene K
  11. Thanks. I was specifically asking about the F-4Bs that the Air Force evaluated asF-110s. Now that I understand that the trunion plates weren't there on the top of the wings, I need to determine which "bumps" are on the underside (of the Hasegawa B/N wings). Appears from a cursory look that all four need to be ground off (the RHAW antenna under the intakes and just ahead of the split betwen the ailerons and flaps). Next thing I need to sort out is the type of wing tanks carried by the F-110s - looks like they are probably the early Sgt Fletcher. Gene K
  12. Anyone have any scale drawings/refs to compare the two types of 370 gal tanks? Gene K
  13. Thanks, Phantomologist's posts here indicates the plates were installed as an upgrade when longer struts were installed. So I assume the F-4Bs that became F-110s didn't have them. Again - great model. Gene K
  14. Thanks to Phantomologist's posts in this thread,, I assume the early F-4Bs didn't have the trunion covers -- and that accordingly the Air Force F-110s (F-4Bs) didn't. Can anyone confirm this? Gene K
  15. Rick, Did the wings have the rectangular trunion cover on top of the wings? Gene K
  16. Rick, Looks great, especially the way you have it displayed. I'm inspired to do the same model, so would appreciate any links to detail or overall pictures - in particular any that show the silver leading edges. Are the leading edges of the stabs also silver? Stab tips? Thanks very much. Again - excellent model! Gene K
  17. Trent, Thanks for the pic. I learn things everyday on ARC (an understatement). Please post any more info you find on these "bumps" and to which models they apply. Gene K
  18. Thanks much. That's a ton of nice resin! Gene K
  19. Those sets look great. Could you tell me the set numbers, please. Do they include the pilot figures shown in your picture? Gene K
  20. Outstanding cockpit!! Which Eduard color set did you use? Gene K
  21. Trent, In this ARC thread , you mention three blades on each side of the nose. Could you be more specific where these are? All I can think of are the "mountings" for the splitter blade... Gene K
  22. Looks really great. As for the wing, since you didn't put slats on the wintips of your model, just "pop off" the slat actuators on the underside of the wings and it's correct. You might also want to check the plate on top of the wing. I believe it is on Navy birds, but is absent on USAF Phantoms. See this ARC discussion.. Gene K
