  1. I believe they simulated the tracking or guidance signals of various AAA or SAM weapons systems thereby testing the electronic warfare systems and crew responses of attacking aircraft. Some back ground here.... http://www.lazygranch.com/sa.htm Cheers, Haydn.
  2. As part of our Forty years of Red Flag display at Telford I really wanted to show some of the simulated threats used out on the range. Now there aren't any kits I am aware of so it was going to be a case of scratch building until a couple of strokes of good luck came my way ! The first was the production of a resin M114 AFV in 1/72 by S&S models. Second stroke of luck was discussing the project with Neil Gaunt of Aircraft In Miniature. I explained I was having to scratch build a couple of emitter turrets for Telford and he said could he have a look at my reference material and did I have a
  3. Jennings - please, please, please (I have more of these if required) can you make so that the serial numbers are not part of the actual tail fin art so we can pick and choose serial numbers ? (for example the California ANG and 5 and 48 FIS schemes) Haydn.
  4. Hi Gary, The two lighter shades are FS 30279 and FS 30219. I couldn't figure out the dark brown so mixed it. The pattern is based on the F-5E SEA scheme - the wrap around version used by the Nellis Aggressors (it looked very similar to the published pic of '96') Cheers, Haydn.
  5. Red Eagles YF-110Cs: The 4477th TES obtained around a dozen brand new J-7 fighters from China to replace the Indonesian Mig-21s that had been the back bone of the Red Eagles operations. These models have been converted from the lovely Revell MiG-21-F-13 kit and I have to admit I'm not exactly proud of them ! BUT now these are out in the open I'm sure a manufacturer will come up with a kit ! :)/>/>/>/>/> The decals on the green and grey bird are from Wolfpak decals - http://millcreekconsultants.com/WP72-A077.html Cheers, Haydn.
  6. Oh wow ! Fantastic stuff - thanks Mark ! Cheers, Haydn.
  7. I started out with the colours from the SAC SIOP scheme (FS 34159 & FS 34201)..... Cheers, Haydn.
  8. Come on Russ haven't you finished this yet ? :D Once again your detailing (and dedication) is simply outstanding ! Cheers, Haydn.
  9. Go with the AMT kit ! Comparison here !...... http://www.usaf-sig.org/Forum/index.php?topic=602.0
  10. Hi Robert - good news on the M715 - there is now a 1/72 model out plus the Ambulance with the maintenance truck to follow... http://www.panzerfux.de/Sortiert-nach-Hersteller/1-72/1-72-Hersteller-Q-Z/1-72-Trident.htm?shop=panzerfux&SessionId=&a=catalog&t=4442&c=47497&p=47497 I was going to ask you what colour they should be ??? Cheers, Haydn.
  11. Seconded Larry ! This is great news Kursad, one of my all time favourites.... Cheers, Haydn.
  12. Thanks for the kind words chaps. Haydn.
  13. They all flew ! :) Cheers, Haydn.
  14. Hasegawa 1/72 F-16As and B converted into Full Scale Developments versions (remove ECM fairings from base of Fin, cut back the trailing edges of the tailplanes to the original size (or replace with the QuickBoost resin items) and use Pavla S72042 Resin Stencil Ejection seats being the key mods).... Cheers, Haydn.
  15. Hasegawa 1/72 F-16B and F-16CJ (the HTS pods being converted into a Pave Penny Pod). The AGM-65 Mavericks are the excellent resin offerings from modern-hobbies.com. Aircraft and weapon decals sourced mainly from the excellent Wolfpak decal range http://millcreekconsultants.com/WP72-13.html).... Cheers, Haydn.
  16. I've had two attempts to try and match this paint both using mixes of Xtracolor enamels and Humbrol metalcote polished aluminium. The first try is the 'OT' coded F-16 using FS36118 gunship grey as the base. The second is the Air Guard bird using RAL 7012 as the base. I know this isn't very scientific but here is a shot of both with the actual 36170 Colour chip on the wing. I think the RAL grey is getting closer.... Cheers, Haydn.
  17. Now at last you can move heavy munitions to your flight line ! Aircraft In Miniature have added the MHU-110 Munitions Trailer (in 1/72 scale) to their growing range of Aerospace Ground Equipment. In use from late on in the Vietnam war and right up to the present day this is a great piece of equipment to have. The kit itself is white metal comprising a single piece trailer along with ten wheels, two axles and a towing arm: You will have to make your own weapon support racks but they will depend on what you are carrying. I used plastruct channel and strip as well has stock plastic card to m

  20. Hi Kursad, Did you get my email about the walk way lines ? Cheers, Haydn.
  21. Aside from aircraft of the 56th SOW and 388th TFW (as illustrated by Ikar)I think the first TAC unit I saw with black codes were the A-7Ds of the 23rd TFW which came to RAF Lossiemouth in 1977 for the RAF's tactical bombing competition (which they won). Haydn.
  22. From what I can see in my BARG booklets the 48 TFW started toning down their markings in September 1980. Cheers, Haydn.
  23. Andre is right in saying the base didn't have fixed assigned air units in that time however the base was home to regular deployments of first TAC and then USAFE tactical aircraft providing a nuclear strike alert force (Known as Victor Alert from around 1958). The first F-84F deployment was the 390 FBS /366 FBW from England AFB in 1955. The first F-100D/F deployment was in 1959 with aircraft coming from the 308 TFS/31 TFW based at Turner AFB. If you are interested in the history of Aviano there is a great book called "Runway Zero-Five. 1954 - 1992 Cold War at Aviano" by D.Mattiuzzo, M Roder a
