  1. the #4 engine nacelle. They're pretty much ready for the engines from what I gather (or are at least as far along as they can get without having them onhand.)
  2. This is the second piece of the root for the tail fin... this is probably next on one of our "big projects" to do, since we just finished the first part of the root.
  3. ok, no "official" update today, I decided that I needed sleep more than I needed to work on the bomber, BUT... I have pictures and the ability to upload them again, so here we go! This is a photo down the long axis of the fuselage, the sucker is really long!
  4. Unfortunately no, I don't have the pics on a storage site (I didn't think places like that existed), but I've got a good 6-7 ready to go up ASAP and as soon as I get this new roll developed and scanned, I'll have about 15 more. Believe it or not, I just volunteered for the project and they took care of the rest! I had NO previous aircraft restoration experience, NO metal working experience, No electronics/wiring experience, NOTHING. Just a lot of enthusiasm and love for the aircraft. I am a musician/educator and never in my life thought I would be doing something like this. They've taught me
  5. I'm not certain how we managed to aquire them. They may have found some sort of near-substitute or they could be re-pros, I'll find out on saturday.
  6. I regularly use the MM Acryl line with good results. Using just water they work perfectly well. So you get the adversity of water-based acrylic paints with the diversity of colors and the quality of the Model Master lineup. The only thing to remember about acrylics is that they really do need to be sealed when you're done. They are much more prone to chipping and peeling than enamel paints are (you only experience this if you seriously man-handle your models or drop them). They go on smooth and look great.
  7. Another very productive night at the Hangar tonight. B) Like last tuesday, most everyone was working on the 45 section/wing-cap. Now the new skin has been cut to contour for the starboard wing. All of the proper holes have been drilled, most of them have been riveted. The decision was officially made that the life-raft holding doors will be sealed shut. Since this particular aircaft is never expected to make a "water landing" (doubtful it'll ever leave the 48 contiguous United States) it was deemed one less thing to worry about. As such, the water-holding tubs that go just inside the two doors
  8. we ***** about the Rev/Mon kit (me moreso than many of them, but that's because I'm building one now), but it's really no better or worse than several of the alternatives out there. Yes the kit has serious issues, but there are examples in ARC's gallery of people who have made the kit work for them with excellent results. It is my understanding that the Academy and the Revellogram are about the same in terms of difficulty to build (I would rate it at "moderate", where I would rate the hasegawa as a "nightmare") and with only a little work you can have a really nice kit on your hands I will a
  9. Didn't work on the bomber today (too tired to go out there), but I DO have some scanned photos to put up as soon as we get the chance to upload photos again, stay tuned!
  10. Jeff, it was a B-25 mitchell. We've a picture or two of it up in our breakroom. They're not very good pictures and I'm not sure where the plane came from, but I could probably find out!
  11. First update: The bomber is coming along quite nicely. Tonight, me and pretty much everyone else on the Tuesday crew worked on the "45 Section" (The Section of the fuselage that goes over the top of the wings.. also referred to as the "Wing Cap"). We lowered it into place on the fuselage for a test fit. We're going to be moving the bomber to a new location at the other end of the runway (more on that in a second) and we wanted to make sure that we'll be able to give the fuselage as much stability as possible during the move... the project manager wants the center-wing dropped in before the mo
  12. I would ask the moderators to pin this thread, but if they don't want to, I understand! Since I’m the only ARC member (at the moment at least, I’m gonna try to bug John/â€kstater94†into joining too!) working on the Boeing B-29 Superfortress (named “Docâ€) here at the Boeing facility in Wichita, I thought it might be a neat idea to keep a continual update thread for all of the prop-junkies and WWII buffs . I was granted security clearance from Boeing to shoot pictures and post them here (I already have some, but I haven’t scanned them yet… will soon!) For those who might not keep
  13. yeah, the VF-1 were heavy users of the Ferris/Heater schemes in the early/mid 80s
  14. in 1/32 scale, you could probably paint those and be just fine... it wouldn't take much effort
  15. I got my F-14B VF-103 print from Torsten Anft today I had him special print the "SECDEF PHOENX" markings on the tail for me. ;)
  16. bring it, Dan! all makes and models welcomed!
  17. I have a corkboard section above my desk. I pin the plans up on that.
  18. I'm all over this like thigh-fat on a Dixie-Chick.... count on seeing a 1/48 VF-103 JR in low-vis, probably a 1/72 VF-2, and maybe a VF-111 or 213 in 1/72.
  19. Hey HABU, one-engined-pansy-fighter enthusiasts need not apply ;) (just kidding!) Looking forward to seeing your work in the GB!
  20. a bit silly, and the VF-2 isn't my favorite......... but...... I LIKE IT!
  21. happy modeller= good modeller don't worry about what everyone else thinks.. build it how you want, and when you display it, just say why you made it the way you did... people will respect that the first model I've built in the past 10 years is still one of my favorites (a 1/72 Fujimi Tomcat), and there are gaps in several places on it and the paintjob is shoddy... but I love it! Why? I built it ;)
  22. I brush mine on with no problems whatsoever... no alcohol or anything (except in my mouth, perhaps!)
  23. a VF-1 Tomcat in the Ferris low-vis scheme would kick ***... can't wait to see it!
  24. 'rogers rule, dogs drool! ;) The 'dogs have very nice markings.... even if they're in blue... (just kidding, they're ok!) I look forward to seeing your GB entry!
  25. The iranian tomcats may have shot a hella lot of aircraft down... and they may be the only F-14As left in the air, but they never wore this:
