  1. Sorry Gene K, Wasn't trying to be rude, but it seems you took it that way and for that I apologise. I have to agree with you on the whole the Sword kit is better detailed and contains a number of detailing parts, which the Airfix kit does not have and on the whole, the Sword kit is the better kit option. My point was that you can still buy the Airfix kit for about £9 GBP (Aprox $14 U.S) whereas if you can find a Sword kit they generally cost £20 GBP (Aprox $36 U.S). Hi all, With reference to the Sword kit, there are two valid reasons for not buying one, 1: you'll be lucky to find any in the UK and 2: the price, they are running at about £20 GBP that's about $26 USD? a piece if you can find one. and if a third is needed you've just told me that it also has inaccuracies, so why should I spend 2 or 3 times as much on a kit that still has to have work done to it?? Jorge, yes my only concern was that some of the F-80's flying with that unit had a red outline to the fuselage serials and a couple had red main wingtips, if the pictures are to be believed, however the photo above does show that there was no red outline to the serial and as far as I can tell no red wing-tips, Paul Boyer's link to the painting also seems to confirm both of these points.   4. I find it quite odd that Airfix would include a scheme this hard to find as there were loads of colourful F-80C's in korea so assumed that as they had included it, it would be a known aircraft? I admit that when they re-released the kit some 5 years later they retained the "Saggin Dragon" scheme and replaced the FT-873 scheme with "the Spirit of Hobo" scheme, but even so, very odd choice this one by Airfix.   6. Hi all, I'm half way through building the 1974 boxing of the Airfix 1/72 F-80C Shooting Star. The kit offers two colour schemes the Saggin Dragon FT-650 option and an FT-873 option, no name or title given but the instructions claim it served with the USAF 36 FBS, 8 FBW in Korea during 1951, unfortunately I have searched the net extensively and can find no mention of this aircraft! I have tried the USAF registry, my usual port of call for colour schemes Wings Palette, a number of military aircraft photo sites and still no luck. Can anyone help me please with a photo or profile please???? oddl

  10. Hi All, I am wanting to detail the Airfix Boulton Paul Defiant NF Mk 1, I am aware this is not the greatest kit in the world, but would like to have a go at it anyway. Do any of you have any hints and tips about what I should be looking at and fixing? I have had a search on the Internat and found very little in the way of detail sets, either Resin or PE for this kit so assume a lot of the work needs to be scratch-built. I do however have several books on the defiant, mainly the Mushroom models book, Warpaint and profile publications covering the Defiant. I would be grateful for any help. Do

Hi All, I have to agree with you regarding this kit and it's suitability for beginners, I think that it does fill a gap in the market as was commented, not only that it's a really fun build and I think that as modellers progress they seem to sometimes forget the fun element of our hobby, that spark that got us into modelling in the first place. I have to say that I would definately have a go at another Pegasus kit, in fact I already have their Me262 so when I need a bit of fun, guess what kit's going on my work bench? I have not built a 21st Century kit, but would love to if only I could get

Thanks for that Matt, Very helpful information, the new Airfix 1/48 Mk.IXc/XVIe is based on thier New mould of the Mk.1a (Which was based on their 1/48 Mk.Vb kit of years gone by, and in my opinion a much better kit than the original), but differed from the New Mk.1 in that it had a new wing, nose and armament, but the new wing is much thicker than the Mk.1a, which is as good as it get's so I am told. I could simply thin the leading and trailing edges of the Airfix Mk.IX kit wing, but you can never be sure by how much. The big problem is that the wing tip pieces don't fit the thickness of the
  18. Hi All, I have an old original 1/48 ICM Spitfire Mk.IX, which has loads of moulding problems especially in the cockpit and undercarriage components. So I was considering using the good parts to complete my Airfix Mk.IX. I am intending to try and cross kit the engine, some cockpit components and the main wings from the ICM kit over too the Airfix kit. Has anyone else tried this, if so where there any major problems? I have three ICM kits and this is the only one which suffered these moulding problems, Which is why I wanted to use it to detail the Airfix kit and I have heard that the Aifix kit

Johnsons Spitfire LF Mk.IXc JE-J MK392 can you give me some help please. 1: I understand that this aircraft has the early style rounded rudder, not the later type pointed rudder, is this correct? 2: Wing cannon bulges, some people model this aircraft with the early style wide bulges, whilst others model it with the latter style thin bulges, which would have been correct? 3: I have the ICM kit which includes an engine, now it says that the engine should be painted overall aluminuim with a dark grey supercharger unit,

Hi all, I recently did a photobuild on Britmodeller here in the UK, using the Pegasus Hobbies 1/48 Spitfire Mk.1a. the reson I did the build is that I spent a lot of time trawing the internet to find build reports of the kit and the outcome was just a single article, which was not that in-depth so I thought I would do one myself. Hi All, I am about to build a 1/48 Me262 in the colors of Heinz Barr, but I am confused, the box lid shows Red 13 painted in RLM 76/81/82 (Brown-Violet / Bright Green), but the instructions claim the colours as RLM 74/75/76 (Green-Grey / Grey-Violet)? I have searched the interent and found several models and references, again some have one scheme whilst some have the other. So which one would be more likely or are both correct for this aircraft? Hi Tia, I am at present building the HobbyBoss Me262 and I must say they look a little narrow to me and the way the rear of the pod is shapped I am not sure you could fit the pods to the Hasegawa kit without having to include a little bit of scratchbuilding, mind you I could be wrong as it has been a long time since I have seen the Hasegawa Me262. Can I just add that during the construction of my example I did discover that the bottom fuselage half is somewhat wider than the upper half and a lot of filing, filling & sanding (And re-scribing) was required to get a good blend between the t
