    New P-47 Decals

Just heard, Mike of LSM is getting the sheet done. Good news for us 47 nuts. Looks like about a run of 250 sheets cause of cost so don't wait too long to get them. I found out he's also doing his World Series sale again cause the Rangers are in it. 30% off but I think that ends this coming Sunday (Oct. 30) so if there's somthing your wantin' now may be the time............. New P-47 Decals

For those that are decal junkies, Mike West ofLone Star Models now has up on his sitea pre-order for some 1/48th decals for the early P-47s. I've been bugging him about them since he first talked about them ages ago, but then I'm sort of a decal and P-47 junkie. For those that don't know, the sheets gonna have 22 different planes represented. I emailed Mike about it and the skinny is that it's pretty expensive to get them printed, so he's trying to offset some of his expense by having a pre-sale on them for $10. Looks like the sheet will run $20 when it's released. It's printed by Microscale s
  3. Could it be SNJ polishing powder. Messy stuff for me. I don't use anything but Alclad. Just like my reliable MM paints, they just don't give me problems...... McLents
  4. Yes, I think that was the only two I used. They are really pretty low contrast to one another so it doesn't give that too patch work looking appearance. Great, tough stuff that Alclad. I don't want to highjack the thread, so I'll go picture-less here, but that was just the fist set of taping. The plane ended up being "The Blond Angel" so ended up with painted on full invasion stripes. The only place I had the slighest issue was some touch up I tried to do to the Futured canopy. The future did not allow the Alclad to "bite" into the plastic, so a minor touch up to the frame that required a smal
  5. Dave, I don't want to talk you outta anything, but the Alclad system couldn't be easier, really. The key is a good primer coat. First, that will show any blemishes that may be present. Now I know there's always a lot of talk about which undercoat to use, but frankly, I've found the Tamiya light grey primer right from the can to be perfect. A light rub down makes the Alclad go on like glass. And the toughness facilitates any type of masking you may need or want. The shot is of the masking so I could do some slightly different color panels. Lots of tape as you can see and no pullup anywhere.
  6. I'm going to go with a 109E-3 0f 3./JG51 in the winter of '39-'40 Simple scheme, but I like the markings. The wing crosses were over sized to aid in ground recognition. It looks like- I'll use the 1/48 Tamiya E-3 kit. I have a habit of "mass" painting" when I'm using a color that crosses several colors like cockpit colors, so the pit already has MM RLM02 sprayed. Other than that, there's nothing else dome.....yet :o)
  7. Thanks B- I've got that decal sheet too. Don,t know if it qualifies for this build, but if not it probably would for the '35 to '40 build. The pilot got those lips for shooting down a French plane. Actually, if it qualified for this build, I was gonna do it after the D, but is not, then maybe the other build. However I have a couple of other planes in mind for that build. Glad to be aboard for this build :o)............ McLents
  8. Well, although there's a 109C that will be in work, I'm gonna throw my hat into the ring with a Bf109D that has close to the same markings as the C. Mine will be a 1/48 Hobbycraft kit using AeroMaster decals. Now the rules say unstarted, but I've already base coated the cockpit with RLM02. Hopefully that's OK. I get in moods and will pull a whole bunch of kits that require the same general color, especially interior colors, and spray several at one time. That's what happened with this one. Have no idea how long ago I did it. Anyway, if that violates the rules, let me know. Anyway, heres the ki
  9. Thanks Steve............. McL
  10. Just curious if this group build which was to start the 1st of June and delayed until 1st of July is actually gonna get it's start today or soon. Just curious..... McLents
  11. Just as an aside- AeroMaster put out 3 "specials" on the 405th, and still had so many subjects researched, they continued with more later on their regular series of decals. With still more, the even included more on their twin company Eagle strike. By the time they were done there are 35 different 47s that could be modeled from that group alone. Since they were pretty much ground pounders, they never got a lot of play amoung modelers. But they definately had some of the best artists in the AF. The models you did came out really nice and will add an eye catching spot on your display shelves. B
  12. Yep, I apologize, I didn't word that well. The extension only applied to the vertical tail plane surfaces. The first try at stability was the tail fillet on the K, although the designer was never convinced it was necessary. moving the vertical tail plane back seemed to satisfy all concerned, at least according to my sources......... McL
  13. The length difference is because the rudder and vertical tailplane was moved back on the mid production Fs and subsequent models for a stability issue. I don't know about the kits in question as far as accuracy issues, but the N should be longer than an E. notice that the horizontal tailplanes did not move back as much as the vertical tail surfaces. 14. Well, probably not surprizing you don't know him. He was one of the actors my mom was in love with way back when. And I'm 61! But I well remember "Dillion" and his faithful sidekick, A gimply Dennis Weaver. And the lovable saloon owner, Miss Kitty. TV was so simple then.......(and in black and white!).... McLents
  15. Thanks fellas. Looks like the MiG-19 I have will also get the grey treatment. Makes things easy doesn't it. Thanks again. McL
