AH-1S Kisarazu Specials
CraigSargent replied to Inquisitor's topic in Japan Self-Defense Forces 60th Anniversary (Ended)
Thanks but apart from the IAF specific mods, didn't do much different from what you are doing and your detail work is very nice. I couldn't make the angled main rotor work, so ended up tilting the whole rotor including the shaft, which is not correct. The Master brass barrels really make this kit. Let me know if I can offer any assistance at all. Looking forward to watching yours progress. I love the little Hasegawa Cibra and have more in the stash. I also note they are about to release the kit again as an IAF version with resin in the box for all the mods. The paint scheme on the JASDF -

Love the attention to detail and in proper scale too. I ran into the same issue with the round cross-section skid supports when I built my last AH-1 (IDF/AF version) and ended up using some copper tube to bend new skid supports from. Hasegawa 1/72 IDF/AF AH-1F Tzefa -
More progress - had a good few hours at the bench tonight, so been trying to get model to a point it's ready to paint by the end of the weekend if I can. Almost finished tidying up the fuselage and the wings are now on. Few small seams which will need attending to. Note nose gear leg only inserted temporarily to keep model off it's nose. Got some painting done on the arrestor hook - once yellow and black has dried, I'll mask the stripes and paint the hook and pivot/mount assembly white. Drop tank cleaned up and with final coat of gloss white. Nice and clean ready for some light weatheri

I'm actually enjoying this one so far, so making good progress. Cockpit painted and finished. Intakes painted and installed, fuselage halves closed up, hump on, lumps and bumps added to the nose. Panel lines have all been cleaned up, spurious panels and fairings removed, refuelling probe and Master Models probe tip added. Little more cleanup around the front of the hump still to do. Had to add a little more Tamiya putty to the port fuselage side to correct profile. Still have to add instrument coaming. Nose with lumps and bumps added. Clear ARBS window will be painted over for this jet

TwoMikes Escapac seat cushions painted and ready to be attached Cockpit base painted, washed and dry brushed. The rear bulkhead, side consoles and rear decking are Cutting Edge, the seat is TwoMikes. Still need to paint the consoles and the seat ejection handles. Eduard Brassin AGM-65 assembled and base coated gloss white. Wash and first round of filters added. Still have to paint alternate fins black and the noses orange-red so they will get some more light weathering after that is completed and decals applied. Wings assembled. Flap interiors have been painted, decalled and weathe

Bu No 160264 was the 2,960th and final Skyhawk to roll off the McDonnell Douglas production line in 1979. The aircraft survives today and has been restored back to it's original paint scheme, but I want to finish it as it appeared when at China Lake testing the new laser-guided AGM-65E Maverick as per this photo: Hasegawa actually released this aircraft as a model: The last 24 A-4M Skyhawks produced, had beefed up main gear and larger main landing gear fairings and gear doors and the legs had scissor links added. All of these parts are included in Hasegawa's boxing of 'The Last Skyhawk'

Jeez, I need to post an update. Will try to get some pics this weekend of where this is at (still waiting on some intakes!). -
What 1:48 jet would you like to see from G.W.H. ?

What Timmy said... -
Nice work. This aircraft's sister squadron member, Black 80, has been restored and is flying in RAF markings just down the road here in NZ. http://www.spitfirepv270.co.nz/photos.htm

Thanks JM. As previously mentioned, I still prefer the shape and fit of the Hasegawa kit, although the Revell kit has the edge in detail. But I cant stand the insipid yellow transparencies, so all of my Revell kits are donors for my Hasegawa kits. This is the 4th 1/72 IDF/AF F-16 I've finished, with another half dozen coming down the assembly line at various stages of completion.

Isradecals' book "F-16A Netz: The First Jet Squadron 1979-1986" has photos of the aircraft departing for the mission and you can make out the wing roundels and tail markings. So, not correct. Was the main reference I based my model on. BTW, 2000lb Mk.84s are modified from Hasegawa weapons set, as are the wingtip AIM-9 Sidewinders.

Took them from a Revell donor kit. Still prefer the Hasegawa kit over the Revell, so my Revell kits end up being conversion kits for Hasegawa. This is my second Netz - on my first one, I modified the kit stabilisers - as Jennings said a pretty quick job.

Ignoring all the political conjecture that always seems to accompany posts of certain anniversaries and getting back to a modelling thread: Hasegawa 1/72 build of the jet flown by Ilan Ramon as it appeared on the morning of the Osiraq Raid. Isradecal decals

1/32 F-16A out of the Tamiya "thunderbirds"F-16C?
CraigSargent replied to Eli Raphael's topic in Jet Modeling
Eli, Have nearly finished the main construction phase of the conversion of the Tamiya 1/32 F-16 to the F-16A Netz. I went slightly different route than you as already had the Block 50, so to backdate to the Netz from the Thunderbirds kit is not so difficult. Forgo the Isracast set as most of it is not useful, as it was designed for the Academy kit. The Thunderbirds F-16 supplies correct intake, exhaust, wingtip AIM-9 rails, non-bulged main gear doors and lightweight landing gear. I used a tail and instrument panel from a Hasegawa kit, but this could be a little trickier to source. Then you -

Decals arrived today. Thanks to Tomcat Tweeker for the awesome deal and to Emvar for pointing me in the right direction. Have everything I need now except for the intakes which I'm hoping are not too far away. -

Third time is the charm for me. The other two don't appeal to the same extent. Now I know what I will be scratchbuilding for the cockpit sill of mine...!!! -

Now that build is underway, pulled the base kit from the stash. I know it's a C, but I have a spare set of A tails and all other parts are in the box. Inside the box is a set of Aires nozzles, and an Aires cockpit. All parts are still even sealed in the bags, almost unheard of for something in my stash. First order of business will be to strip from the sprues all of the unused parts, and then hook into some construction. The kit (not my pic): -

Thanks for your help in locating the decs Elmo. Already in the post to me. That's great service from Dave. Will have to head up to storage tonight and dig the kit out and make a start.
