Easy answer on the SPAD dive brakes: ventral dive brake on USAF, and USN post-1958, is wired shut. Lateral dive brakes operational. Internal cowl flaps is a different matter. Some pics show them, some don't. Seems that they were removed in some later birds. In doubt, install them shut.

Bad intake profile (as per the Trumpeter) and a nose that looks like it went thru 20 years of heavy drinking and then got punched. True early Crusaders have a far more "delicate" nose. Google some pictures and you'll see what I mean.
