  1. Also, for the P-39/400s, all the parts are there: you can build almost any version out of any boxing, the only exception to that is that only the P-39Q boxings have the extra sprue with the underwing gun pods.

  2. Unfortunately I can't get the pic to link directly, so it's on this page, 17 November 10, bottom row left-hand photo - photo © Phil Jones and IPMS Avon

    http://www.ipmsavon.org.uk/Gallery/Meeting...ery.php?year=10

A P-51K of the 356th FG at Martlesham Heath in the post-Spring-1945 scheme. It's a Tamiya D with a K prop added, finished in Tamiya acrylics buffed in places with SnJ powder, with decals by Aeromaster. The staff car is also out of the "P-51D and Staff Car" boxing, and the figure is by Airwaves. I did a sort of 8th pilot, but having looked at the photos in the "Mighty Eighth", MrsC thinks it looks most like Preddy. Wrong FG, but as I say, generic.

I think that's a reflection of the venue lighting in the car's windscreen, it's not a fault on the model (although there are one or two of those ...)

    Thanks for looking.

  3. It was confirmed on The One Show in the UK with an interview with Clarkson, they are driving cars from Iraq to Bethlehem, was a couple of clips too...looks good, will be on here on Boxing Day

I saw that One Show - I only caught a glimpse of the aircraft they were using, was it a C-141 or an Antonov An-somethingorother? Slightly O/T, nice to see Alex back.

  4. Some may know that Hannants called in a forensic professional company to invstigate: that company is, according to this week's "Hot News", near the conclusion of its investigation, Hannants will advise the results when they have them.

I too suffered, fortunately only the "test shot" of a small amount, and my CC company replaced the card. Inconvenience to me minor, net financial loss nil. I have been for many years, and remain, a loyal Hannants customer - as the man said, it's not their fault, it's the thieving (insert your derogatory term of choice) who perpetrated this crime. Unfortunately for we law-abiding citizens , the criminals do sometimes outwit what is until then seen as sufficient precaution; better measures are put in place, the criminals crack them, and so on - 'twas ever thus.

Edit for the inevitable typos only spotted after hitting the "post" button ...

  5. Interesting, great choice and nice model. I'm not a Group Build sort of person (so this corner of the forum is new territory for me) but I do like unusual subjects and I have a certain fondness for Mustangs. Inspired by your model I'm tempted to break out another Tamiya kit and a pot of Sea Blue, and I may have some F6F or F4U markings spare somewhere.

Interesting thought: all else being equal, had the Pony been suitable for Carrier Ops and entered USN/USMC service, it rather than the Fury would have carried the "FJ" designation.

  6. Very nice Fitter, my compliments. And nice to see it in the Czech markings. Reminds me, I must get mine started - I have the Kopro boxing, but same plastic ...

    @Kalashnikov-47 - it's big enough in 1:48, 1:32 would be a large model!! :worship:

  7. Some nice pics of ordnance there.

@jinxx1 - any chance your pics of special weapons were taken at the National Atomic Museum, Albuquerque? Visited 10 years ago, but some of the photos struck a chord of familiarity ...

  8. I've had a card compromised, but looking at the evidence I do not see how it's Hannants. They have done everything they could, they've kept people informed, and there are people here who have never bought from Hannants. Given that this is a modelling website Hannants is simply the common denominator.

This is their latest news, see it for yourselves on the website:

"Following our recent credit card security issues, we can confidently say that NO information was captured as orders were transmitted. This means that orders can now be placed at our website.

We have now RE-OPENED this website but modified the way we work. You cannot save any card details now. When you go to check out you will be asked to enter your card details. As soon as you have sent the order the card details are deleted.

Because we no longer have any card details we will not be able to automatically send any Back Orders. We HAVE NOT cancelled any Back Orders and hope to have a modified system available soon. Sagepay have recently developed a new system which is exactly what we were looking for when the new site was being created. For now please add Back Order items to your cart and send the order when you are ready.

TELFORD SHOW ORDERS. To send us an order for collection at the show please add a Collect from show address with your name on as shown in Your Account> Change Your Delivery Address Details> Add An Address. Then make this your default address. Next add the items you want to buy to your cart and then go to checkout. You will need to enter your card number to make the system accept your order but it will not be charged. It will be deleted after the order has been sent."

They will continue to have my confidence and custom - just as soon as my new card arrives!

  9. Monogram's F-5F has been a perennial on the "must have" list of jet modelers for a long time. It was never issued in great numbers and so has languished, next to the other Monogram kits. This has made it all the more desirable.

    ..

But with some minor application of skill and a PE update set, it makes a fine closed canopy, shelf sitter. All the more so, for the moderate re-issue price. Lets hope they arrive on these shores in accessible numbers.

To be honest I probably won't bother with the PE - the minor application of skill is taken as read. I'm not a detail fanatic, I build so as to have a 3D canvas to put an interesting paint scheme on. It will sit well next to the R/M F-5E I built a few years ago in Alconbury agressor markings, plus the Kfir that's sitting on the "start me" shelf ...

  10. Nice, I never knew they did a two-seater. £13 vs £35 for the AFV Club examples make for an interesting value decision. A little more info here. http://www.revell.de/?id=203&KOKANR=01...p;sp=1&nn=1

Now all we need is a decent 1:48 F-5A/C and B/D - my ideal would include at least Canadian and "Skoshi Tiger" markings in the box. I saw the AFV club sprues when their E first came out, although I've not bought one yet, and it looked to me as if an A model could be got from a future boxing with some alternative sprues.
