  1. I don't know where you get your information from but the Y-Body platform has been the Corvette platform since 1984, yes there are generational differences but it has always been a Corvette engineering design, Cadillac borrowed it. Now as far as the corvette being rebadged as a Cadillac that will NEVER happen, Corvette is going on 60 years as a Chevrolet and it will stay that way and the Northstar engine heck even the Cadillac CTS-V uses the Coevette engine. As far as the XLR goes if it turned a profit why is it out of production? the answer is sales 15,448 units over 6 years vs. 167,220 over t
  2. I'll second that opinion I've got a number of kits like that, $ 40 kit + $20 Aires set = $60 hole in pocket Ken
  3. Well at this time his company doesn't have any kind of reputaion or name, good or bad as they haven't produced anything yet, except good intentions and expectations. It's unclear how this partnership was supposed to work, from what I can tell from the Wingscale website is that Martin and his group did the research, graphic design, decals and marketing, while the other side did the actual 3D engineering and mold making and production. So is this a partnership or contract work? it sort of sounds to me like contract work and somebody may have not gotten paid. The Wingscale site lists a Dutch inj

    P-51B question

According to Roger Freeman's The Mighty Eighth War Manual the only radio ftted to fighters was the SCR-522A which only required the mast or a whip antenna, and since P-51B/C 's didn't arrive until the fall of '43 they would have all had the SCR-522A by that time frame. Of course 9th and 15th AF different story that's why I like doing 8th AF stuff one less thing to screw up. Ken P.S. All of Roger Freeman's books are great!!!!!!!
  6. Temperatures of 2 to -2 C ????? here's a tip wear a longer skirt, and a heavier weight of pantyhose you guy's on the left coast are really getting soft, it's not really cold until at least-25 C. One more point don't complain about the rain you don't have to shovel rain. Winnipeg has two of the biggest bus manufactuers in North America, even though things are a little down right now they are always loking for engineerssame with Magellan ( Bristol Aerospace ) doing work on the F-35 along with Boeing and a number of farm equipment manufactuers. Winnipeg also has the largset French speaking com

  10. Should you tell a girl on a first date that you build model airplanes NO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!....................it's best to leave a little mystery. Ken
  11. Here's a couple of more articles that go into detail Army Times article http://www.armytimes.com/news/2009/03/mili..._honor_032509w/ New York Times article http://www.nytimes.com/2010/05/30/magazine...wanted=1&hp The right thing should be done and it hasn't been done so far. Ken
  12. The figures on the base are a good are not really a small point once you let one thing through pretty soon it gets out of hand. Case in point our local figure modeling club had to put in a rule limiting size/hieght etc. on bases as they were getting out of hand and had an influence on the judging. While judges do their best a nicely done base can sometimes sway results, this will usually happen at smaller shows, and the judges may not even realise that they are doing that. As far as OOB goes this really needs to be looked at because it sure wasn't what it was 10 years ago. Ken
  13. Can you elaborate? sounds interesting. Ken :D P.S. Planning on getting over for Telford 2011 I'll buy you a pint, after you finish judging of course.
  14. Some points to consider 1.PRICE.......Online stores compete on price, are you able to buy in sufficent quantity to get good discounts from distributors, some distributors and aftermarket makers ask that you purchase a lot to get good discounts, especially the European ones. Make sure you have enough capitalisation. 2. Selection......Have a great selection this will engourage customers to add to their order, if you are going to sell modern AFV be the BEST modern AFV store on the web have everything that anybody would want. Also having the latest and greatest is important. 3. Web Site....
  15. Not only have I seen the same model at the same show two years in a row, but I also saw it at the same show 8 YEARS earlier!!!!!!!!!!!!! and boy some guys displays really are getting carried nowadays. By the way Greg great model. Ken
  16. Future is your friend you'll be suprised a what it will do. Ken
  17. All valid points, however I would like to clarify some points in my post as it refers to point #2 above, the only AMPS idea I was pointing to was that models with a similar level of detailing compete against one another. I attended the AMPS judging seminar at last years Nats, and to be honest their style of jugding probably would only work for them, if you are going to award Gold Silver Bronze, you really have to judge every model, and that would be far to much work for most clubs. Ken
  18. This is a bit of the problem with the IPMS judging standards, no extra credit is given for doing more work, and it opens up more areas for flaws on the builders part, however this is criteria that is being used at this time. Now the question is, does 5 extra things done to a model outweigh one minor flaw, vs. a cleanly built model with no extras but no "WOW" factor. I'm pretty sure we don't want to start the "Whole model concept" and the winners being models that have every bit of aftermarket that you can buy on the kit, and excluding modelers who either can't afford, don't want to, or build a
  19. That's true but don't forget the distributor is also paying for a building, brokerage fees, wages, taxes, insurance, etc. As far as shipping goes there are too many containers that go to the U.S. with no load to go back and guess who's paying for them to go back empty. it certainly isn't the shipping company. Ken
  20. Excellent points, is that Typhoon kit this one http://www.dragonmodelsusa.com/dmlusa/prodd.asp?pid=HAS09862 one of those stupid "Limited Edtion" kits that is just an assortment of other kit sprues, because the prices on those at the distributor level are about $30 and if you use the same markup formula presto you get your $45 plus retail . If they were resin bits I could see it but not for just plastic. Ken
  21. Pretty good on the numbers although using percentages makes it look god lets use real numbers 1 Yen = 1 USD, cost to shop from distributor $26.00 may or may not have to pay for shipping, selling at $37.00 realises a gross profit of $11.00, net ? depends on expenses. So how many models at $11.00 gross product does your LHS need to sell to make a resonable living 100= $1,100, 200= $2,200, 300= $3,300 that's getting there that's $39,600 a year before expenses. So does your LHS really sell 300 models a month? or does it rely on RC where guy's drop a $1,000 without blinking. and there's maybe $40
  22. Wingnut Wings, worst bussiness model you could use, it`s owned by Peter Jackson nobody even knows if it`s supposed to make money or even if Peter Jackson cares, his hobby is WWI aviation, he has a factory that builds full size replicas, he`s doing what everyone of us would do if they had the cash. Ken
  23. Okay let's play a game, what do you think the above local hobby shop owner paid as the wholesale price for that Hasegawa kit ? This is a two parter now what do they have to charge to make a profit, and that profit comes after the rent, lightbill etc. are paid for. A lot of people on this board think they know what something should sell for but do they really? Also where is this shop located? U.S. Canada it makes a difference. Ken P.S. hasegawa doesn't make a Tempest but the make a couple of really nice Typhoons
  24. Great pics. Thanks Marcin Ken :)
