  1. David,

Thanks for the links.  I had already found the Warbirds decal on Ebay but I was just wondering if there were other options.  It is like everything else when it comes to 1/72nd scale anything.  You can find twenty or thirty sheets or kits of a subject in 1/48th or 1/32nd scale but usually there is nothing available in 1/72nd scale.  Yeah, I know that you would be able to help me, if you could.  Because you have always been a big help to me in the past.  Thanks Again!!

  2. All,

I am having trouble finding the decals of the subject line, because I am not sure if they are or were even made.  Any who, I am looking for a set of 1/72nd scale decals for the USAF Thunderbirds F-4E Phantom 2.  No expense spared, have PayPal ready or will trade kits, decals, and/or aftermarket in your favor.  Just let me know here or personal message me.  Thanks for Looking!

  3. All,

I just want to add to this discussion of what I have been able to gather from Mike's posts on FB.  Me personally, I have been waiting and watching LSM ever since Mike bought lock, stock and barrel of Cobra Company from Chris Miller.  Over the last few months he has posted mostly updates on his PBY resin kit and yes, he has posted that his website is broken and is busy trying to get it up and running.  He is planning to be a vendor at the IPMS Nationals in Texas the first weekend in August.  I am of the opinion that he has everything shut down right now to A) fulfill as many backlog orders that he can and B) to build up his inventory to sell, sell, sell at the Nats.  He has already mentioned that the folks that have ordered the fore mentioned PBY, have been waiting for a year or more.  He has hinted that the website will probably not be active until after the Nats (Aug 2-5).

I will be honest with you folks, I would have loved to be at the Nationals this year but all of my road buddies have bailed on me and I hate to have to make that trip alone.  I would have loved to just be there to see what Mike had and probably spend a lot of money with him.  So I guess I will disappear back down my rabbit hole and wait for him to re-open.

  4. All,

As many have said here, my thoughts on this adventure were going to be sort of like a drive-by and not actually trying to take the full tour or even go aboard the Midway.  I was just thinking that me and the wife were going to leave the airport with nothing on our backs as we were planning to leave all of our carry-on's with other family members in our travel party who will be staying at the airport.  We will probably be taking a cell phone or may be a camera to take some pictures.  But even now I am second guesssing myself because I have found some great pictures of the Midway on Facebook.  I do want to Thank each and everyone of you who have took the time to give us your input.  Thank A Lot!

  5. Folks,

I need to know if anyone here has done this.  Our flight to Reno has a four hour delay in San Diego and one of my bucket list items is to see the Pacific Ocean and I would love to, at a minimum, to see the USS Midway aircraft carrier.  So is it a fantasy for me to think that we would be able take a taxi from the San Diego airport to the Midway in four hours?  Thanks for any input!!

  6. All,

Come on, folks!  I have never done a ship model and I am interested in doing this kit up for my wife and daughter because they loved the movie so much.  I just want to do it up RIGHT for them.  After 1.5k views of the post, is there no one out there in ARC land that can advise me on my original post?

  7. All,

I have a question about the Academy 1/350th scale Titanic.  First off, I have the "plain jane version which did nt have any of the special edition added stuff.  I picked this kit up several years ago when Hobby Lobby was running them on their "yellow tag" specials.  This kit when finished will probably be only a shelf sitter for my wife and daughter because they loved the soap-opera movie.  Any way, I have broke the kit open after several years of collecting dust, and the plastic rails in this kit are a joke.  I would like to replace them, but I don't know which way to go.  I have visited the web sites of Gold Medal Models and Toms Model Works.  The PE rail set and the supplement set that has the deck chairs from GMM are about $100.   While the deluxe set from Tom's is also about $100.  Most of the models that I build are contest-goer's but since this will be my first ship, it may be relegated to a shelf sitter.  The question is, are the sets from GMM and Tom's my only choice or is there anything else?  If these are my only choice can anybody give me some pointers as to which one is better and if I will need any kind of special tools, such as a PE bender or cutter?  Thanks for all the help!

  8. Prayers to Mike's wife and her/his family.  It seems like he has two profiles on Face Book because on one of these profiles,  he has been very active lately with him talking about a re-opening.  But the second profile has not been updated since Nov. 2020.  No date yet as to when this will happen.  Thanks for the information!!

  9. All,

Does anybody have any updates on Lonestar Models and Mike's plans to re-issue all of the Cobra Company molds that he acquired from Chris Miller?  There is no mention of he Cobra stuff on Mike's/Lonestar Face Book page and his website looks like it is about to go to a new owner with no information there.  Thanks for any updates!

What's the wife and kids think about this job and being away from them???

    Tim

    Tim,

Sine the wife and I are a couple of empty nesters, the kids don't care one way or the other.  My contract is for only 6 months so we are not planning any kind of big re-location at this time.  However that could change depending on my contract extensions or anything like that.  We will see!

    Hi Ken,

Slightly off topic, but there is a wonderful HobbyTown USA in Augusta off of Bobby Jones Expressway, so you will not want for hobby kits and supplies.  Also, there is a local IPMS chapter in Augusta, but I don't recall the name of their chapter off the top of my head.  Check the IPMS-USA website for more information.

    Jeff,

Not off topic at all.  As I said in an earlier post, I am going to the Southern Nuclear construction of Units 3 and 4 at Vogtle Nuclear Plant.  I just so happen to have been working in the Augusta GA/North Augusta SC area way back in the late 1980's when Southern was constructing Units 1 and 2 at Vogtle.  I have known of the Hobbytown USA off of Bobby Jones for several years as I have been trying to get on this project for almost 10 years.  Iam planning on visiting a lot of the old places that I use to frequent when I lived down there from 1985 till late 1988.  Yes, sir, that helps a lot because it does remind of what I will need to be checking out once I get settled in.  Thanks!

There is a lot of options? maybe...Mind you I have never rented anywhere that has issue with me modelling. I know our local hobby store, does a meet & make on weekends. Maybe somewhere near by does the same? Depending on where you are renting is there an issue with you placing a small shed up? Maybe see if there is like minded person if they would mind sharing there space. Would building snap together models work whilst you are there? What about your workplace? Would they be willing to let you have a small space? Even letting people here know what area you are going too, there might be someone here who might be will to share space? Thanks

    Ash

    Ash,

Now there are some stuff that I had not thought about.  Thanks!  I am going to the Vogtle Nuclear Plant in Waynesboro, GA which is very close to the larger city of Augusta, GA.  Augusta is not very far from Columbia, SC where the 2016 IPMS Nationals contest was held.  So you are right, there has got to be some like minded folks near Augusta.  Thanks for the suggestion!

  13. All,

It has been 8 hours since this post.  Come on guys and gals!  Surely someone else has been in the same situation as I found myself in!?!  Hasn't there been anybody who has had to keep two households and due to the distance, has to spend a mijority at the work location, and will only be able to come home to the hobby desk once or twice a month?  I know that I will be needing to relax some way when I am working, and doing models is my way of relaxing.  Somebody??  Anybody??  Thanks, folks!

  14. SWF,

He did an inspection before we moved out and his claim was the charcoal stains on the walls over the electric wall heaters (no central air) was due to the paint fumes in the apartment.  I scrubbed those stains for hours and was only able to take about half of them off in my bedroom.  In the living area, where I actually did the painting there were no stains above that wall heater but he claimed that I had left paint stains on the floors in there.  He was just "grabbing for straws" just to find reasons for not paying my $200 deposit back.  Shaking My Head!!

  15. Good Afternoon, folks.  I have just received an offer of employment, just as the old saying goes "it is an offer, I can't refuse".  My problem is that not only will I be away from my wife and home, I will also have to be away from my hobby desk.  What I am seeking is recommedations on is what you guys may have done when you were away for long periods of time.  In the past on short term jobs less than a month, I have been able to cut parts, glue small sub-assemblies that will be painted one color, and to place into tackle box storage bins.  But that was the extent of it.  In some of the long term jobs that I have had in the past, my landlords have restricted any painting and the last one I had did not give me my deposit back because he found out that I had been brush painting in the apartment.  So what did you guys do?  I have already toyed with the idea of setting up a temporary studio in a climate-contrilled storage unit but thus far I haven't found one that has electrical outlets in the unit.  So any offer of recommendations would be appreciated.  Thanks!

Remember the Monogram OA-4M with "MARINIES" on the tail?

    Darren,

I don't remember the Marine Skyhawk but I do remember the Revell/Monogram Dale Earnhardt two car combo that had one Chevrolet and one Pontiac in it where the box art had the word "Pontiac" misspelled.  At the time, I didn't have the combo in my collection but the guy I bought this set from told me that the combo was more valuable because of the misspelling.  I told him that I was a builder, not a collector and I pretty much forced him to reduce his price for the set because I wasn't going to pay his higher price just for the sake of the misspelling.

  17. Habu,

The files on the DVD are in PDF format but when I use the file search and try and open one of them, I get an error message.  The error message is XXXX.PDF file is protected and the menu bar is asking for a Document Open Password.  Sure I know these files are copyright protected but since I have every issue of the magazine and I did purchase the DVD from the publisher, don't I have the right to copy any portion of any of these magazines for my own personal use?  This is just as long as I don't use these copies in a way that may violate the copyright of said publisher.  I really needs these copies.  Thanks for all the help!!

  18. All,

This is a post that I made to the Finescale Modeler Magazine FB page about 2 months ago and I never received an answer.  So I decided to post it here to see if any one here can help me with this.

"I have every issue of FSM that was ever published and I have a digital copy of the magazine on DVD question. It is such a hassel to find an article that I am interested in my stash and then try to take that article to the copier to print out a "working" copy.  Lets say I want to make a working copy of the article to have a quick reference at the bench or to have a "grocery list" to take to the hobby shop or for an  online order. On the digital DVD's of the magazine, once an article is found in the archive on the DVD, can that article be printed out for my own personal use?"

I hope someone on this forum can tell me how it is done, if it is possible.  Thanks, folks!

  19. All,

I get all of my sanding sticks and pads at Sally Beauty Outlets.  They last a long time even in wet sanding conditions and they are cheap too.  My wife has a discount card from Sally from when she was a beautician years ago, which makes them even cheaper.
