  1. I have used Quinta, Kelik, and Eduard Space 3D decals. All are good and I've had no significant issues with any of them. My personal selections, in order of preference: 1) Quinta, 2) Kelik, and 3) Eduard. If it's available through Quinta, I'll buy them over all the others as I feel it is the best of the lot.

  2. Nope, don't find it annoying at all. It costs a lot for a retailer to bring in an entire paint line, and keep inventory up to date. And as for local retailers going out of business, well that's just how the market is responding, and again it's difficult for a retailer to bring in lines of products that are definitely niche markets. For example, I ONLY buy MRP if I can't find the paint shade I want from other suppliers. Mr Color is my go to paint, whereas others prefer MRP. And since you live in the US, like me, I will mention Super Hobby in Poland has the complete MRP line in stock and shipping rates are very reasonable from Poland compared to other countries. Last order for 10 bottles of MRP from Super Hobby cost me $4.50 for shipping. Factor in sales tax (which you don't pay) it's cheaper for me to buy from Super Hobby than US stockists.

My opinion:  Enjoy the lowered flaps.  The alternative is a trip down the rabbit hole of alterations.  The flap section on the folding portion of the wing is down; the corresponding flap section will be down on the inner half of the wing, too.  If retracted flaps are important buy a kit with retracted flaps; it looks like early days with this kit.

I agree with Peter. Unless you like going down rabbit holes!

Thanks for that info, ESPECIALLY the warning about how strong Mr. Mark Softer is.

Don't ask me how I know that!!!! It eats paint, especially acrylics and acrylic lacquers, so be careful and apply sparingly. But, it does work very good on most decals.

I just ordered one bottle each of Mr. Mark Softer & Mr. Mark Setter to use on my thicker SiamScale decals. I know from reading the posts that Mr. Mark Softer is the stronger one. My question is this: my Mr. Mark Softer is clear, while the Mr. Mark Setter looks like it has white powder in it. When I shake it up, the white stuff (mostly) goes into solution. Is that normal, or did I get an old bottle?

    Larry

Nope you didn't get a bad bottle, the Setter has a milky look. Not too worry, when it dries, it will be clear. A warning, Mr Mark Softer is strong stuff and will eat paint if you apply too much and let it pool. Use sparingly and dab up any pooling immediately.

Why is it a domestic US law can decide what is allowed to ship in international airspace to a country with different laws? This is very unreasonable to say the least.

Because you specifically asked about shipping from the USA to a foreign country. As I already explained, you can't air ship any paints with the "flame" icon via air without extra documentation. That's the law. Find another country that doesn't have that law and get your paints from there.

  7. I was faced with the exact same issue. I went with a cheap spray booth. This one to be exact:

    https://usartsupply.com/collections/airbrush-spray-booths/products/mas-b440dclk

It's plastic, and cheaply made, but it does a good job of removing paint fumes from my modeling room. I use smelly lacquer based paints, and when I run it while airbrushing I can clear my small modeling room of fumes in minutes, and nothing gets to the rest of the house. Of course there are better (and more expensive!) options out there, but I'm cheap!!!!

What retailer has an abundant supply, or should I just buy directly from Spain...

    Thanks!

It's hit or miss on popular colors with USA stockists. I buy direct from Ammo in Spain. They have always had the popular colors in stock. Cost is about the same from USA sources, even after you add in international postage. Takes on average about a month from order to actually in my hands in the USA, using the cheapest shipping option.

Sure can..... Tamiya X-22 It's an Acrylic Lacquer so spraying a Lacquer over top would not be an issue and at any point to be honest. Just be careful to not go too heavy it could reactivate and can ruin the finish. Using Tamiya and MLT I have done all colors including clear coats in one session.  Never had one issue with 100's of models completed.  To your original question. I do just that for almost every build Seal with X-22 thinned with MLT. Then I use Tamiya Panel Liners cleaned up with mineral spirits. I also use store brand enamel thinner when I run out of mineral spirit.

What Viper said. My experiences are the same as his.

  10. Who will be the first US balloon ace since Frank Luke? It can happen!!!! I want to model that jet!!!

Can't shoot it down in International Waters unless it's an imminent threat to yourself or others. There are laws about that sort of thing. There are many reasons why the balloon wasn't taken out before hitting SC waters. A little quip I heard somewhere the other day explains it pretty well: "a little thought before the shot"!!!!

  11. There will be many more kills on UAP's, balloons, or otherwise that y'all will be seeing in the future. Lotsa stuff floating/flying around up there. Some legit, some not. In the past, if they were not an imminent threat to safety they were mostly ignored. Not any longer. Everyone's looking for them now and they'll be going down.

  12. It is very easy to tint clear epoxy to any color you desire. No need for expensive specialized pigments (although they do work very nicely). Use any enamel or acrylic lacquer modeling paint that you desire, by putting in a drop or two of paint to get the color you need (not much paint is needed), mix it in with the uncured epoxy, shape to desired and let cure. Note: water based acrylic paints do not work very well as they do not mix well with epoxy.

I heard Solvaset if not ULTRA careful can ruin a gloss coat and decals. Dai

Yes, Solvaset can damage some acrylic gloss coats if you're not careful. Most every strong decal solvent that contains alcohol has the ability to damage some acrylic and acrylic lacquer clear coats. A tip to help prevent this is to not let the solvent "puddle" on the surface, and to gently wick away any puddles with a soft absorbent towel before they can damage the clear coat.

Consistency depends on how sealed the paint was and type of pigments.

But you must use Replenishing Agent with caution, max ratio is 10% otherwise it will your kit plastic.

It depends on how and at which pressure you used your airbrush.

Some people litteraly shotgun the paint.

In reality, you can really thin Mr Color paints a lot and use very low pressure without problem.

The fact you can revive dried Mr Color paints is one of the reason I love this paint brand.

Agree 100% with Shion. The thing I love the most about Mr Color (besides being a fantastic paint) is that it is 1/3 the cost of MRP for me.

AMK F-14 fitting close-ups. Somebody has some troubles. Photos may be useful for part treatment and dry-fitting.

WOWZERS!!!! The "big hips problem" was not a deal breaker for me, but this stuff sure is. Hopefully, there will be a few more WIP's posted to illustrate this, or if this builder had just made some mistakes. Right now, this kit is going from the "must buy" to the "maybe I'll pass" department for me!

  16. My experiences with the acrylic lacquers is that you can intermix, MRP, Mr Color, Hataka, Akan, AK Real Colors, and Tamiya. In addition you can intermix the acrylic lacquers with the alcohol based acrylics like Tamiya and Gunze. Acrylic lacquers can NOT be intermixed with water based acrylics like Vallejo, AK, etc.
