  1. If you live in the USA, Mr Color is the most economical acrylic lacquer out there. I can get it shipped to me in the USA from Asia for about $3.00 a bottle. MRP costs about $8.00 a bottle shipped to me. Whilst Mr Color is only a 10 ml bottle, in reality it actually contains about the same amount of paint (since you add thinner which is about 4 cents a ML for me). Regarding coverage of your model, Mr Color has denser pigments and takes less paint to cover than MRP. So, MRP is between 2-3X the cost versus Mr Color for me. Mr Color has good out of the bottle color matches, but MRP has more out of
  2. Thank you for posting this very informative build video series. I especially like your weathering techniques that you used with artists oils. Perhaps in future videos you could spend a little more time showing them in a bit more detail. I have this kit in my stash and I'm gonna be building it soon! Please keep the video's coming!
  3. I looked into buying direct from MRP and other international vendors. Unfortunately, shipment to the USA is very expensive and essentially doubles the cost to about $15 a bottle. MRP, while a fantastic paint, is already one of the most expensive paint brands out there, and $15 a bottle is more than I will pay. It's good stuff, but not $15 a bottle good. <<<Yo may want to try them, or direct from MRP ....>>>
  4. Since you live in the US, getting MRP is pretty tough. Only one US stockist (Hobby World USA) and they are steadily heading downhill in stock. Most all of the popular US colors are out of stock and have been for some time. MRP better get their act together and find another vendor for USA because it's quite a shame I can't buy their product and it's one of the best paint brands out there.
  5. I cut it into smallish sections with sharp scissors to just cover the area needed (specific canopy section) and then trim to shape. A single piece would have difficulty conforming to the entire canopy. Since Press & Seal is so thin and has a slight amount of stretch it conforms pretty nicely to small complex shapes. It trims very nicely using a new Xacto blade.
  6. Bare plastic. I usually do not dip a canopy in Future unless there is a flaw in the plastic.
  7. I have good news and bad news! The good news is it works as a masking material and trims very nicely. The bad news is, it may leave behind residue! The good news is Goo Gone will remove the residue. You decide!!! Note that the residue only appeared on one canopy section and I have no idea why it removed cleanly everywhere except there!
  8. I just tried ordering direct from MRP, and it is ridiculously expensive to order direct through them to the USA. Almost double the cost than from the US vendor (and MRP is already the most expensive paint out there!). Bummer. Looks like I'm gonna have to custom mix the colors. <<< Is it cheaper for US buyers through a US vendor?>>>
  9. I've never ordered direct before. I haven't had to before because the US vendor always had what I wanted. But not this time, they only have 4/10 colors that I need. Thanks for the input on Canada. I guess I'll find out pretty soon because I can't wait much longer for the US vendor to get stock.
  10. A LHS would likely not have the floorspace to stock every single paint brand made and I sure understand that. An on-line retailer does not have that same issue and can pick and choose which brands they stock since warehouse space is dirt cheap. Since I have well over 200 kits in my stash, I'm not buying many kits these days and most of my modeling budget is spent on consumable items like paint/glue/sanding/finishing items. So, if an on-line vendor wants a piece of my modeling budget, they better stock the items I need and buy. For example, I'm trying to buy some MRP right now and the sole US v
  11. You must have missed this evidently new policy of pre-paying for the Tomcat that was posted from AMK. And as of this morning, Victory Models was not listed as a potential vendor for the Tomcat. <<<f. Modelers are requested to make payment for the preorder. And therefore, we will charge our distributors.>>>
  12. I'll be buying the AMK Tomcat if it ever materializes. I will NOT be paying for a pre-order up front since the word vaporware comes to mind.
  13. Thanks to all for the kind words. The model was built with the Aires cockpit set so the seat/straps are from that. I folded the provided PE straps as you see on the seat and then painted them.
  14. Looking to buy AfterBurner Decals 1/48 F-15 Aggressor's 48-081 or 48-007. Cut sheet OK as long as one F-15C scheme is still present. Thanks.
  15. I have to say I agree 100% with Joel & SWF. I don't understand the attraction of pre-thinned paint and I'd rather do it myself. After all, I can always add thinner to paint that's too thick, but I can't really make it thicker like I might want to for brush painting. I really like MRP for airbrushing, but I sure can't brush paint it very well.
  16. MRP is a fantastic paint, no doubt about it. But here in the USA it's very expensive. And it also doesn't brush paint very well. So...................................... the perfect paint has still not yet been invented and there is still room for more/better paint brands!!!!
  17. IMNSHO, the more paint choices we have, the better off we are as modelers. And there is always some need for a new brand of paint in specific colors. For example, I'm a big Mr Color fan, but they don't really offer any out of the bottle matches in some colors (for instance, Soviet AF). So, I need another paint brand to step in and produce that color. MRP stepped up and produced some killer Soviet colors so I purchased them. I don't expect every paint manufacturer to produce every color possible as that's unrealistic, so I'll shop around to find the colors I need. As far as vendors not stockin
  18. Yes, I just found out MRP has indeed released a "regular" acrylic paint. Here is the first review I've seen. http://www.largescaleplanes.com/reviews/review.php?rid=1996
  19. Since I have partial color blindness I'm probably not going to be very helpful with regards to color accuracy! That being said, MRP (Mr Paint) does offer good out of the bottle matches for most colors (near as I can tell!). MRP is an acrylic lacquer and does have a strong odor that some may find offensive. They do not offer a "regular" acrylic version of their paints. MRP airbrushes fantastically, so no worries on that front.
  20. Yes. MRP is fantastic paint. It's very similar to Mr Color (both are acrylic lacquers). I use MRP when I can't find a specific color from Mr Color (like Soviet AF, which Mr Color has no out of the bottle matches). I would gladly switch over exclusively to MRP except for one reason-----Cost, it's much more expensive than Mr Color.
  21. My paint brand of choice is Mr Color, an acrylic lacquer. Airbrushes beautifully, dries fast, and has a hard durable finish. Downside is it smells! Hard to find in the USA though, so I get most of it from Asia. I've used MRP, which is also an acrylic lacquer, but it is quite pricey and also hard to find, but is superb paint.
  22. Thank you all for the kind words. Yes, those are the kit decals from the Aces of the 8th boxing. And yes, the checkerboards are all kit decals. I used Gunze Mr Mark Setter and Softner as my decal solutions and the decals responded brilliantly to those solutions. I highly recommend these solutions for Tamiya and Hasegawa decals. The Setter was particularly valuable as it made the decal slightly pliable but still relatively strong so I could use a damp cotton bud to push-pull and manipulate into position without tearing much. After the Setter dried, I then hit the decals with a final coat of Sof
