  1. I guess time will tell. I don't see anything there that says definitively it's an entirely new kit though. Regardless, given their track record, I remain *highly* skeptical. Hopefully between the three kits, at least one will be reasonably accurate.
  2. Unless you read this (from Trumpeter) which says it's a "new version" (which is their way of saying, new box, new decals)... I'd be shocked beyond words if it's not their old kit in a new box.
  3. The loop is an ADF, which is a different system from the homing beacon.
  4. Yeah, but you'd definitely need a minimum of $50 worth of resin to do that (at least in 2016) :)
  5. Looks interesting. What's really interesting is the hinges (?) where the elevator counterweights go. That would make it a challenge to move them up or down :) Only clear parts for the engine cowlings? Seriously?
  6. It's announced as a B.
  7. Their >10 year old P-40B in a new box. Nothing new here.
  8. The wire antenna on P-51B/C/D/Ks was not a communication antenna. Most US (and British) tactical aircraft began using a VHF/FM set in (from distant, distant memory) 1941/42. The VHF set required a much shorter antenna, which was contained in the vertical mast, and didn't require a long wire antenna. If you see a P-51B/C/D/K with a wire strung from the tail to the cockpit area, it's for the homing beacon set, not for communications.
  9. It is? Where'd you get the inside information?
  10. The BBC sent a reporter out with a recorder (almost assuredly a wire recorder) in Surrey in 1942 to record the song of a nightingale. They got more than they bargained for: a stream of Halifaxes and Wellingtons heading out to lay eggs over Germany. Amazing!
  11. HA is (or was) used by the Iowa ANG.

Maybe you'll stop talking about things you know nothing about. Nah probably not.

Not May. It's already may and I haven't even started working on decal art.
  14. Well, speaking in geological time terms, it's pretty close to 50 :)
  15. Easily one of the two or three finest 1/48 jet kits ever made.
  16. It was quite common. Lots of pics of Corsairs in the SWPA with extras painted on. Just a morale booster. I seriously doubt the Luftwaffe or the Japanese ever saw or cared about them.
  17. Why? Have you actually looked at it? It has zero moving parts (other than the regulator knob), zero noise, zero moisture, and is significantly less expensive than a compressor. I really can't see a single down side to it. But if you want to beat your head against the wall and waste your money, be my guest...
  18. It appears to be a period color photo (vs. colorized). That said, it's definitely overexposed, or at least poorly scanned. *That* said, there's really very little you can say for certain about what color(s) it might have been, other than that they were dark. Certainly interesting.
  19. Hobby Boss's kit is fine except for the 2x4's that they used to represent the fabric on all the flying surfaces. The Bilek kit is spectacular.
  20. Thanks. That's what I was thinking I remembered reading. Much appreciated! Yes, working on some Spitfires that have never been done before :)
  21. Every SHAR cockpit I've seen a photo of has a grey panel. I'd believe photos before I'd believe Kinetic's instruction sheet. Both Pavla and NeOmega make very nice Mk.10s for the SHAR.
  22. I know the XVIe didn't have the outboard .303's, and I know the access panels for them were still present, but were the shell and link ejector slots in the lower surface still there, or were they covered over? If so, did they have new access panels (solid), or were the openings doped over? Tx!
  23. They could have been from anywhere. I flew from Orlando International to Wright-Patterson AFB, Ohio aboard a North Carolina ANG C-130 one time, and Elmendorf AFB, Alaska to Offutt AFB, Nebraska aboard an Illinois ANG KC-135E.
  24. Not to say fuselages *don't* bend, but they're not designed to bend the same way a swept wing is designed to bend. The idea is that the fuselage is supposed to go the same direction as the rest of the airplane.
