  1. Welcome, It's been rather quiet, but that's probably because everyone is busy building! Looking forward to seeing your Challenger II!
  2. Starting soon - been busy build a cat adoption center for a group we volunteer for. 1:1 scale is somewaht more finicky than 1:35 (unless you're building one of the limited run kits. Then all bets are off)
  3. Seconded... And Nickleback should be declared cruel and inhumane and banned by international law.
  4. Nope. If you feel like it, at least keep us updated on how things are going. G
  5. Sure! Looks really good! I have the Dragon M1A1 and Legend upgrade set in the stash, so it's interesting to see how the Tamiya kit goes together as well as the modifications you are making on it. Really like the anti-slip coating! Grant
  6. Neo, Lots of WIP - only on my house! Have not had a chance to crack my T-90 open, but am hoping to get a start this weekend. Grant
  7. Hi Peter, Well, the simple answer is that there is no easy answer to the question! IJNAF Aircraft, like the B7A2, would have natural metal wheel wells/ landing gear doors and may have been coated with Aotake (a "sealant" which would protect the metal from corrosion due to exposure to the elements.) Aotake had a bluish/green tint, which tended to become a deeper green as it aged. Of course, it is possible that on a late war aircraft (like the B7A2), Aotake may have been dispensed with (especially if operating from land). IJAAF aircraft would have been painted/ natural metal, depending on th
  8. GBs usually run for 6 months, so this GB will run May 31 to Nov 1. Grant
  9. Absolutely! Build as many as you want.
  10. Hello all, With a few days to go before the start of the GB, I thought I would see what everyone plans on building? I have the new Zvezda T-90 which I picked up a few months ago. Going by the on-line builds and reviews, it looks like it will be a great kit! I may end up adding some aftermarket (not sure what, yet) or just go OOB. I do have a few projects to finish up first, so I may not be starting right at the 1st of May. Grant
  11. Rules for the GB are quite simple: 1. Any vehicle (tank, APC, half-track, truck, artillery, etc.) that was in use after the Fall of the Berlin Wall on November 9th, 1989 to present day. If you plan on doing an older vehicle (such as a T-55), it should be in post 1989 markings. 2. Any scale. 3. Any aftermarket, kitbashing, and scratchbuilding is allowed. 4. No What-ifs. Prototypes which never entered production are OK, but they should be in the markings they actually had (no "what if" operational markings). 5. Have fun. Questions or comments? Please ask! GB will run from May 1 to Octo
  12. Duly notified. I will post the GB rules later today.
  13. Mike - I will mod the GB, although if anyone is willing to co-moderate, it would be appreciated. I think we will say a start date of May 1 to October 31, which gives everyone 6 months to get their build done. Darryl - the GB is on the modern era (post Cold war) - essentially any armour that was in service 1990+. Thus, if you want to do a Tiger tank, great - only it should be in the markings of however was using it in front line service after the Cold War. Sign up is easy - post what you are building in the GB forum that will be set up and keep us up to date with how you are doing. Grant
  14. Real quick reply - I am still interested in modding the GB, but life has thrown a curve ball at me such that I have not had much time for anything, least of all modelling... I am out of town next week - At this point, if everyone is agreeable, maybe a delay of 1 month to a May 1 start? Sorry for the lack of contact/ information, but I have been busy with family related matters for the last week, and have not been online much. Grant
  15. You are correct on that, sir! We are still a go, although any offers to co-moderate would be appreciated. There are a few weeks there when I am potentially goping to be away (work related)so to have someone minding the store would be appreciated. And, for the record, I am in with the new Zvezda T-90... Speedlimit - don't despair. Depending on how far along you are with your build, it may still qualify for participation in the GB.
  16. I was there in '85 - just after Chernenko passed and Gorbachev was coming into power. Things hadn't changed that much by then, but there was an expectation by the people I talked to that the new leader, being "young," might introduce some new thinking into the Politburo. Little did we know! Edit: I just remembered - as a student back in the early 1980s, I recall one teacher in the school (who was pessimistic about everything) announcing to the class one day that "what we were studying didn't really matter, as we would all likely be dead in a Nuclear War before we became adults..." 17. Vallejo aluminum and steel? Excuse my ignorance, but is this enamel/ laquer or acrylic? It looks really good, and as my supply of metallizer is dwindling and I hate Alcald, this may be an option. Nice looking Raider!
  18. While I've been building on and off over the last few months, it has mainly been wheeled and tracked stuff. Then, for some reason, the mood hit me and I built something with wings! This is the Hasegawa F4U-5 kit which I have built mainly OOB (Ultracast seat replaced the kit part) and used the TwoBobs decals for Glenview NAS that were the included in the 2001 IPMS Nats Convention decal package. I used Tamiya Sea Blue, as I was out of Gunze (my preferred sea blue). Thought this was a bit darker, so I lightened with a few drops of white and highlighted the interior of panels, etc. t
  19. I second Jay's recommendation on the "Outward Odyessy" series. Excellent reads, and you can pick and choose what specific area you want. Check out the NASA history website as well. There are a number of the program histories which are available there to read. The program histories on Mercury and Gemini are, IMHO, the best that are available on those subjects.
  20. Hmm - I don't know if there is a simple answer. Revell last year was set up - display only. Dragon was not in attendance, although the importer was (and selling some kits). Of course, many of the other vebndors had lots of Revell and Dragon kits. Zoukei ***** (sp?) had a display, and a few kits to sell (which went, IIRC, within the first few hours).
  21. I thought the pricing last year in Omaha was pretty consistent with what you could find online. The real benefit was being able to pick up aftermarket/ reference material that I would not normally have access to. For older kits, best bet is if an individual is selling off their stash - then you may be able to find some real deals. Last day - you may be able to do better. I didn't want to risk the items being sold prior to then.
