  1. Depending on the timing, I would be interested. This would give me a reason to start one of the A-7s or F-8s that I have sitting in the stash.

  3. The Emily and the Claude. Probably get away with it for the Jake. As for the KI-27 - lighten it up with a little yellow and that should be pretty decent. If you have any yellow, just a drop in about 4 drops of green should do it (my best approximation from memory) Otherwise, go spend your money on beer (I was a Grad student once, too. One has to have priorities!) BUT - seriously - don't get to hung up on the colour not being completely correct. And the Ki-27 cockpit isn't going to be really noticable in 1/72 - its not that big in 1/48!
  4. Well, I'm not a rivet counter or a wise man, but I did stay at a Holiday Inn Express last night.... This is a loaded question, as you have already alluded to. The majority of the information I have ever come across would indicate that the paint used on the interior (and exterior) was dependent on the factory that was building the aircraft. The easiest example would be the later model Zeros - designed by Mitsusbishi, but more were actually built by Nakajima (under license) than by Mitsubishi. Nakajima built Zeros were painted using Nakajima paint stocks, which differed from those used by Mi
  5. Kev, This article has been around for a while. IIRC, there was some discussion on the J aircraft boards on the use of the tinted version, and the consesnus over there seemed to be that it was very rare, and only very early in the production run. Antoine - looking good. Really impressed with the paitning of the hinomarus. What colour of red did you use, as it looks really good!
  6. I have used the rivet decals - they work really well, go on smoothly and look great under a coat of paint. I heartily recommend them!
  7. Very nice! I have this kit myself - any issues? Did you use any aftermarket on it?
  8. Not to confuse things, but it could be either... Most of the mottling was field applied - meaning that they slapped it in with a brush or whatever was at hand. Most of the pics seem to show a harder edged mottle, some with a soft edge (which may be field or factory applied - I don't know if the IJAAF supplied airbrushes to their units). I don`t want to hijack your thread, but here is a shot of an Oscar I did a few years back. Perhaps a picture would help to clarify some of the above discussion. I applied the highly thinned green with an airbrush. In the picture, the center of the mottl
  9. They look great! I second Frank's feelings, however - the old JAL tail scheme truly rocked!
  10. Glad to be of help... Now the important stuff - post pics! Enquiring minds want to see the build!
  11. Any of the references I've seen were that the control services were in the gray green colour, and that this was done at the factory. PLanes were similarly fully painted, or NMF. Once in the field, they were either camouflaged or painted, depending on the need for concealment.
  12. Alvis, Amazing work on a lttle known vehicle! The colour is wrong, though. It should be a shade of brushed titanium Seriously, your ability to come up with this stuff is astounding!
  13. As a fan of Bloom County, this really made my day! Excellent work!
  14. Looks good, so far. One minor point - the Ki-43 was an IJAAF aircraft. The wheel wells would be either bare metal or painted green, but would not be aotake. IJNAF aircraft used aotake as a corrosion prevention measure on bare metal that would be exposed to salt air.
  15. I managed to get a few things done this year - mainly armour and a few aircraft. And, as usual, lots started and not quite completed. Eduard X-1 completed for the Real Space GB Otaki Ki-44. This was done for a Pacific War GB on another site. Trumpeter KV-2. Trumpeter KV-1 1942 cast turret. This was done mainly to try out the winter camo scheme. Dragon Nashorn - again in winter scheme. This had sat half done for the last year, and finally got around to completing it. Tamiya Type 97 Japanese tank Japanese Type 1 SPG Another Type 97 - winter whitewash camo. Thi
  16. Numerous cats, free run of the house, including the modelling den. I've had some minor issues, but have never lost anything as a result of their actions. Like everything else, it just comes down to proper training. They know not to mess with my stuff, and in return I feed them!
  17. Ditto what many other have said. Much as I am looking forward to seeing the completed aircraft, this thread has really helped me get through my Mondays! Awesome work!
  18. Wow! That looks really amazing. I built the Tamiya kit a couple of years ago, but will definitely be picking this up when it is released!
  19. Hmm - To Finish - 1/48 F-104C - 1/48 F-104J - 1/350 Yamato - 1/35 T-34/85 - 1/35 KV-1 - 1/35 T-26 With the exception of the Yamato, none of these should be hard to complete, as they are essentially done with the exception of the odd bit of weathering/ ordnance/ equipment, etc. To do for 2009 - 1/350 Udaloy/Kirov/Slava - 1/48 RA-5C Vigilante - 1/48 F-4 - Japanese Phantom - 1/48 F6 Hellcat - not sure if I'll do the FAA or USN version first. - 1/35 BMP-1 And, once it arrives, the Trumpeter 203mm Soviet tracked howitzer
  20. What a cool looking vehicle. Looking forward to seeing more!
  21. M48. I believe the South Vietnamese also had M46 Light tanks as well. EDIT: Whoops - meant to say M41. I stand corrected.
  22. Great job, Mike! It really puts it all in persepctive. The shuttle looks like a large launch vehicle, but next to that Saturn V... WOW!
  23. Wow Mike! That's what I call perseverance! Looking really good!
  24. Dave, Thanks for the heads up. One quick question - where did you get the kit? I knew it was coming, but had not seen it available yet.
  25. Picked it up two weeks ago at my local book seller. I also note that it is available at Amazon. Its at the top of my "to be read" pile, once I finish the book on bomber crews in late '44-45.
