  1. Hi Jim- The A/C in the pic absolutely does have a spinner and there's no doubt there's a fuselage band- so very interesting, could be as you suspect! The dark codes as well are a bit strange- didn't look that closely at the pic before. Shame it\s so dark (backlit) so it's difficult to make out detail- any other distinguishing marks I could look for? The book is great, has quite a few photos of the operating bases in Alaska I don't think appear anywhere else- and it has a bunch of interesting details on submarine ops and the use of the Glen seaplane. It's by Heritage House publishing, ISBN #1
  2. Hi Grant- I'm far from an expert and just have this one photo in Coyle's book to go by- but the Hurricane described from 135 appears to have the standard R( c )AF scheme with sky fuselage band and typical roundels (C.1 on the fuselage sides is all that's visible). It's very indistinct due to the lighting in the photo but it does appear to have full squadron codes (XP) - in this case it's XP@F. Again, the way it's lit it's hard to see if they're underlined but it sure appears not. Quite a few of the other squadron codes for BC based aircraft are underlined so I'm not sure what the guideline w
  3. Hi guys- Great topic and close to my heart as a lot of the west coast Hurricanes operated close to home! In "War on our Doorstep" by Brendan Coyle he mentions that "in keeping with the practice of rotating squadrons on remote bases", 118 (Kittyhawk) squadron was replaced by the 135th (Hurricanes) in August 1943. Also included is a pic of a 135 sqn. Hurricane with the caption indicating it was based on Annette Island in 1944. No specific ref to this info is included, but the pic sure looks like the Aleutians! It also mentions that 115 (Boleys) was replaced by 149 (Venturas) at the same time.

Hi Bill- Had been wondering when someone would tackle this one- figured it would just be a matter of time, good stuff. Although I build primarily 1/48 I would still be interested in this, so add one more name- any plans for a scale-up version? Cheers, A
  5. Wow, this is interesting stuff. I've gotten used to the 115 code and layout from having seen the photos many times. I have a set of old Arrow Graphics decals that have it the "wrong" way as well. Was planning on using them soon, maybe will have to add a caveat... On a semi-related note I was in Nelson over the holidays and had a look at the plaque honouring Gray at the Legion. Surprised that there isn't something bigger, but it's an understated presentation for what was probably a pretty down-home guy. Thanks Paul for this, great reading. Cheers, A
  6. Hi Everyone- Going to make an easy start here given my long layoff from building (and the fact my bench and gear are buried!) I'll start off with a pretty much OOB and progress from there. To begin: Airfix Mk. IXc with an Ultracast seat and wheels - IPMS Canada Decals for George Keefer's GC-K, 412 "Falcon" sqn. RCAF. Keeping it simple. If I have time I'll try to do a Seafire XV in an RCN scheme (will take a bit more work....) Crappy picture, will find a better one: Cheers! A
  7. Great work and subject! This machine was the peak of technology back whan I was working in the bike industry (pay was terrible but the cheap parts were a bonus!) Very Nice! I'd buy a kit of that... Cheers, A
  8. Hi John- Neat project- I've always been partial to 402 as my own initals are AE-A, which shows up all the time... I have an IPMS Canada sheet that has AE-C on it and also has GC-K as on the sheet you have- interesting, didn't know these had been done by any other manufacturers. I was thinking of doing GC-K if I have time (wishful thinking!) Looking forward to building with everyone! Cheers, A
  9. Great project! Will be watching with interest... That's a whole heck of a lot of resin right there! Cheers, A
  10. Certainly excited here! Similar to Matt I haven't built in going on two years, but this has got me motivated! Especially as it turns out I have a fair number of these in the stash- I'm thinking about doing a slightly upgraded HC Seafire XV in RCN markings. If I have time I might go crazy and tackle my Airfix Seafire 46/47 - anyone else going to do one of those for the GB? Looking forward to it, should be a good turnout. A
  11. There is a brief (2 page) summary of the Spiteful (with 5 small photos and production data) in the FlyPast special edition "Spitfire 70" , Classic Aircraft Series #25. Not much but it's the only ref I have in my collection! HTH A
  12. Hi All- Long time no post- does anyone know of what aftermarket decals are available for the Airfix Seafire 46/47? I think there is a 47 (?) scheme on Aeromaster's sheet 48-527 "last of the legend" but after hunting around I not only can't find one for sale anywhere, I haven't even ben able to turn up an image of what it looks like. I think it's rather like the HMS Triumph scheme that comes with the kit, but not sure. I would be into a 46 scheme as well as I'd like to to the wings unfolded. I'm interested in this for two reasons A- trying to find something interesting looking and B- underst
  13. All I have to say is just damn! If you hadn't nailed the Stranraer with such style for the Matchbox GB I would have my doubts as to anyone pulling this one off- but you're the man for the job! Will love to watch this build. Andrew, shuddering while looking over his Strannie...
  14. Will be very interested to follow this build Jay- I have been coveting one of these kits since I picked up a set of decals for an RCAF example. I can see this is going to turn out to be one of my "buy a $50 kit to go with the decal sheet you scored for $5" deals! :P Score! I have seen some other reviews of this kit that indicate it's not exactly a shake n' bake so will save time off your hard work! Stupid question time- Is the Czech Model kit the same as the Signifier kit? Cheers, A
  15. Hey Doc- Good question- indeed I have, as we have water all over the place here on the West Coast and a lot of times it's a lot quicker way to go (waiting in ferry line-ups has probably taken years off my life- or have I just spent years of my life IN them? ) These have been some of my most entertaining flying experiences! Went up island once on a West Coast Air Twin Otter: Have done the quick jaunt to Nanaimo on a Harbour Air Turbo Otter: And just this past August got to do a little sightseeing hop in a Tofino Air Cessna off the west coast of Vancouver Island- and of course that was
