  1. Actually, you are right about the yellowing. I remember now when I first got the sheet, I was disappointed with how quickly the sheet had yellowed (like it arrived already yellowed) and the white decals seemed a little off-white. I'll probably take your advice and get a new sheet just in case. As for kit, I'm not quite sure which one might be an accurate one. At my disposal are the old Hasegawa Russian Knights kit as well as the original boxing: https://www.1999.co.jp/eng/10112493 Also, I have an old Italeri Sea - Flanker (which I believe is just Italeri's no
  2. Woo hoo! Thanks for this! Now that you posted that link, I remembered that I actually have that particular sheet. It's somewhere in my stash and I will have to try and locate it. Haven't seen it in years so I hope it's still in good condition. Thanks again, sir
  3. Does anyone make 1/72 decals for this SU-30KI? https://www.scalemates.com/kits/hasegawa-00095-sukhoi-su-30-ki--676852 Or are there are decals for any other version of the Flanker wearing this type of "winter/blizzard" camo? Thank you.
  4. Something interesting I read in Eric Bergerud's post here: http://www.shipmodels.info/mws_forum/viewtopic.php?f=5&t=77101#p514108 (although the thread is about Lifecolor, they do discuss Tamiya acrylics) is that Tamiya Acrylics isn't really a true acrylic but is, in fact, lacquer based and supposedly works better with Tamiya or Gunze lacquer thinner rather than Tamiya's X-20A thinner. Haven't tried it myself but it probably explains why Tamiya acrylics don't really brush paint as well as the other "true" acrylics like Vallejo and Lifecolor.
  5. Good stuff. I like how you explained the thinning ratios and the different psi for the gloss vs flat paints. Thank you!
  6. Very nice! I like how you depicted the trailing edges in a slightly lighter green.
  7. No, I remember seeing this boxing sometime ago. IIRC, the gun bay & flaps were by a resin company called Jaguar. If I'm not mistaken, Hasegawa packaged their F-86 with the Jaguar resin.
  8. They were included in these super-secret 'weapons of mass distraction' boxings that even Lockheed employees don't want to talk about: https://www.1999.co.jp/eng/10199366 https://www.1999.co.jp/eng/10109799
  9. Wow! You're Duncan Curtis? I must say your book's awesome! I was inspired to get the book when I bought Hasegawa's drone QF-86 https://modelingmadness.com/scott/korean/preview/hasegawa/09306.htm And the subject matter got me interested in drone Sabres.
  10. You mean QF-86H no: 53-1314 pictured on pg 36 of Naval Fighters No.58? https://www.scalemates.com/books/north-american-qf-86e-f-h-sabre-naval-fighters-58-duncan-curtis--109677 I think it's also on the decal sheet of the C&H Aero Miniatures 1/32 F-86H and featured on the box art: https://thumbs.worthpoint.com/zoom/images2/1/0716/17/32-h-aero-minatures-86h-conversion_1_b0344a663c0d338072802fac8baac02a.jpg You can see Snoopy just below and to the left of the Stars & Bars. https://www.cybermodeler.com/hobby/details/ch/images/ch_f-86h_decal.jpg (
  11. They're both awesome! A question: For Mitja's low vis scheme, what are paints ( brand and number) that were used? I like the slightly bluish tint of his greys. Thanks in advance.

  13. Probably the best Fine Molds Phantom build I've seen on YT. By a Japanese modeler: 6-part split video series: Or the whole full build in 1 video: I can't believe how awesome his black-basing weathering technique is. Especially for the lighter green of the SEA camo. Enjoy!
  14. Looks awesome! Love that weathering work & the tone variations
  15. Thanks much! I couldn't order from the Japanese version of Hobbysearch. For some strange reason, Vichobby paints are not available in the English version. In any case, HLJ had them cheaper. I ordered the JASDF Ocean Blue colors amongst others. Let's see how they fair once I receive them. If they work well, then I no longer have to mix my own Tamiya colors as I did here: https://modelingmadness.com/review/mod/j/jegaf2.htm Apologies for going off-topic of the Mission Models paints, everyone.
  16. Really useful tips there, FalconFan. I like the way you explained everything in detail. Also, your color-basing technique ( as an alternative to black-basing) on your 1/72 Banshee was very interesting. Again, I really like the way you explained the step-by-step. Thanks!
  17. That looks awesome! I've been wanting to build the 1/72 version from Fujimi because I love that boxart with the Olympic rings depicting the opening ceremony of the 1964 Tokyo Olympics: https://i0.wp.com/charliesplasticmodels.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/08/F-86F-Sabre-Blue-Impulse-Fujimi-1-72-JN4.jpg?fit=600%2C285&ssl=1 https://mainichi.jp/english/graphs/20190729/hpe/00m/0sp/001000g/20190729hpe00m0sp009000q By the way, these Blue Impulse Sabres and the Olympic rings were featured in the Japanese movie "Always Sunset on Third Street 3". Albeit CGI ones but it w
  18. You mean VicHobby paints? https://www.hlj.com/search/?Word=vic+paints&Sort=hightolow_price+desc&Page=1&Maker2=Vichobby I've seen them at HLJ and was wondering about them. Thanks for the review. I might get a few. Do they need a primer coat first? Btw, could you post a link to where I can find them on 1999.co.jp? I did a search on their website but can't seem to locate them. Thank you.
  19. Wow! That Grace looks amazing! Nice weathering and rivetting
  20. FS 26373 is the color included in Ammo Mig's "MiG & SU Colors Grey & Green Jets" set which also includes an Su-24 scheme ( although from the pics, I can't tell which of the 3 aircraft the FS 26373 is meant for): https://www.migjimenez.com/en/ammo-paints/331-mig-su-colors-grey-green-jets.html https://hobbyterra.com/product/smart-set-mig-su-figters-greys-a-mig-7204-mig-ammo.html https://dukmodell.com/Paints-Weathering-Products/AMMO-of-MIG/Paint-sets/MiG-SU-Grey-Green-Fighters-Colors-set::12930.html HTH
  21. Thank you for the pics and the review of the kit. Been contemplating this kit too but was afraid that it might turn out the same as the Platz kit ( those too-deep panel lines). Will be watching this build with interest!
  22. Great work! I like the green that you chose as well as the paint-chipping effect
  23. Nicely done. Interesting camouflage too.
  24. You're welcome, Gene! Though, thinking about it now, instead of a lighter, I think it's better to use the heat from an incense stick or a heated screwdriver or something. Back in the day, I had steadier hands, so I used a lighter. Actually, your query made me look up what's on the market: https://www.hannants.co.uk/product/LP72005?result-token=p6PoY https://www.hannants.co.uk/product/ED72448?result-token=p6PoY https://www.hannants.co.uk/search/index.php?product_category_id=&product_division_id=&manufacturer_id=&code=&product_type_id=&
  25. I once made my own F-4 Phantom ladder by using the F-15 one from the old Hasegawa pilot/crew set: https://www.1999.co.jp/eng/image/10000497 What I did was saw off the last rung at the bottom ( to make it 7 rungs). Then , to address the rear rail being taller ( as what Craig mentioned), I used a lighter to soften the back of the front rail, then push it downwards & slightly forward to make it shorter than the rear rail. Wasn't perfect but it worked. I wish I could locate it now ( I seemed to have misplaced it someplace) so that I could upload a photo of it.
