  1. Moritz & Carlos, thanks very much for the tips. I too have access to supermarket superglue but they don't seem to have the black stuff. So the standard supermarket stuff will have to do for now. Moritz's idea about adding the black pigment sounds good too. Might try that. Carlos, thanks for the pics, that windscreen join does look good.
  2. Hi Carlos, thank you. May I know how long you waited for the above before sanding? I'm really worried that if I get called away to do some other task, and come back an hour or two later, the mixture would have hardened too much to sand or rescribe. I guess what I'm really asking is; how much playtime do I have before the mixture becomes too hard to do anything.
  3. When I rescribe panel lines and inevitably make mistakes (eg the scriber slips and ends up scratching the surrounding plastic), I usually use a pencil to mark the mistake ( I draw a circle around the mistake). Then I continue scribing. Once done, I go back to the problem areas, use a filler, wait a few hours for the filler to dry, sand the area smooth and then rescribe again. The problem is the "waiting for a few hours for the filler to dry" part; once I start rescribing, I hate to stop the flow. I'd like to find a way to instantly rectify the mistake and carry on scribing.
  4. As nice as the Academy kit is, there's just something a bit 'off' about the nose area that I just can't put my finger on. I don't know if it's just my imagination or just a 'feeling' at the back of my brain. The Tamiya kit just has more of that "Phantom-ness" about it. And I agree with ElectroSoldier about the Monogram C/D. Even in 1/72 scale, it just has that bit more "Phantom-ness" to it. And the raised panel lines make it better for building 'Nam era birds because you can lightly sand away the main camo to reveal the primer below...gives it that weathered, sun-worn, look.
  5. You're right. Hasegawa is quite capable of producing multiple variants of the same aircraft ( eg Zero, Skyhawk, etc). I wonder why they didn't do the same for A-7 & F-8 Crusaders? I think early versions of the A-7 & F-8 would be quite popular.
  6. Yuck! Please, no! With a bit of work, I believe the excellent Hasegawa kit can be converted to early Corsairs. IIRC I think it was Steel Beach or someone who made conversion sets to backdate Hasegawa A-7Es. I think Cutting Edge also made a set.
  7. 2 x VF-84 F-4B options from this decal sheet: https://www.furballaero-design.com/ProductDetails.asp?ProductCode=48-076
  8. Same here. I like airbrushing the big parts because it's like a canvas to try out 'art'. Also, I like doing the research before building the kit (eg the history of the particular aircraft, the online reviews, the tips & tricks to make corrections, etc)
  9. Good choice on the P-1. I want one too. There was a resin kit by Foxone (both 1/144 & 1/72 scale) https://www.scalemates.com/kits/foxone-design-studio-a114-kawasaki-p-1--1148814 but it was too pricey. IIRC, the 1/72 one was several hundred dollars 🤑
  10. Isn't the Tamiya one an Italeri re-box? https://www.scalemates.com/kits/tamiya-60772-macchi-mc202-folgore--134558
  11. Your paintwork and weathering is amazing!
  12. Really nice work on the cockpit Those seats really stand out.
  13. Wow! Superb! By the way, I cannot see your build log because that website is asking for a log-in.
  14. Unbelievable that FM would let this golden opportunity go to waste. Surely they must have done the market research to know that a slatted wing F-4E and F-4G are in high demand? I sure hope they strike while the iron is hot rather than sit around and let some other company eat its lunch. 😧
  15. I love Matchbox boxarts! So nostalgic. By the way, that Hasegawa Shindenkai seems to be a rare kit. Lucky you to find one.
  16. Where is the pilot figure from? It looks great! I like your innovative vacuformed oxygen mask.
  17. Good point! I never thought of that.
  18. Gene, nice work on your Phantom so far Regarding the spine, I wonder if Fine Molds intentionally made it that way for those of us who want to make a maintenance diorama https://www.super-hobby.com/products/F-4-Phantom-Big-set-for-Academy.html https://blackdog-model.com/_obchody/blackdog-model.shop5.cz/prilohy/12/a72088-1-72-f-4-phantom-big-set-2.jpg.big.jpg Yes, it's meant for the Academy F-4J but I wonder if they can be tweaked for the FM kit. And Gabor, wow! Great post. So that's what the Fine Mold company looks like.
