  1. Thank you KursadA! How’s you do that?!
  2. I am planning to build a P-51D modeled after Stephen C Ananian's from the 505FS, 339FG, 8AF USAAF. His plane was named Baby Mine. I can't find any decals for that aircraft. Obviously there were thousands of P-51s built so I didn't expect to find any decals for it. Any suggestions on what to do? Is there a way to make them myself? I suppose it's better to just switch to a plane for which there are decals. Just curious if there are ways around this. Thanks!

  4. No problem. Thanks for checking that Scooby! Tex’s pre-23rd E it is!
  5. Sometimes the truth is better than any story!!! Scooby, if there was any way to find out if Pappy did crash a p-40E before he left, that would be the P-40E I’d make... prior to the crash of course! Frankly, I bet they came in piecemeal. My guess is that even after the 23rd came to be some pilots still had B/C’s... or they were around for parts.... Either way, if anyone finds out if the story was true or that Pappf flew an E, I’ll owe you a beer. Jim
  6. That's totally fair. I should probably do the same thing. However, the Boyington decals come with a lot of customization ability, so I can basically do any airframe and any number within the 1st Squadron Adam and Eve. So that gives me a bit more flexibility. I found out Wilf Jepson was a radio mechanic, so that pic of him in front of 125 I found is not his plane. I may do it. If you come across any pics of a P-40E from 1st squadron (white stripe near the tail), maybe you'll let me know?
  7. Dear All, I splurged and purchased the Hasagawa P-40E 1/32 kit and have begun building it. I then purchased a set of 1/32 Flying Tigers Gregory Boyington decals... after which I realized that Boyington's P-40 number 21 of the Adam and Eve Squadron wasn't an E variant but a B or C. I panicked but then calmed down when I found out that 33 P-40Es were briefly used in combat by the AVG BEFORE it converted over to the 23rd Fighter Group. Apparently E variants began coming into the AVG in late March of 1942. I found online that plane numbers 101-134 were E variants and I actually found o
  8. I biffed the painting on the canopy. Anyone make any replacement canopies?
  9. Another good suggestion. Thanks!
  10. Awesome! Now it's figuring how to mask off the canopy. I guess the Hombrol Masking cement I bought doesn't work well with acrylics... and I just bathed the canopies in Future.
  11. Thanks Pip. So, if I go over the future with a coat of micro flat or Vallejo flat finish will it potentially dull the gloss coat a bit?
  12. Update, the product I bought to mask the canopy is Humbrol masking cement. I read that it reacts with Future and thus I can't use it. Ideas?
  13. Morning all! This is a repost because I accidentally posted in "Diorama" the first time. New back into the hobby after a long hiatus. Currently building a Revell JU-87 G-1. I airbrushed the entire plane and then placed the decals. Having never used Future Floor Wax, I found some on ebay and airbrushed it on. I did this less for the results and more to protect the paint and decals. Now I see the glossy shine. While a floor wax should leave a gloss shine, I didn't admittedly anticipate it though I do now understand that it is a floor wa
  14. Great, just realized that Humbrol Maskol will interact with Future... well now I am not sure how to finish my canopy...
  15. Whoops, just realized this is in the wrong forum category. I'm sorry moderators.

In the future, is there anything I can do with future t
  17. Afternoon everyone! (Well, afternoon for me in NYC anyway). After a long hiatus I have returned to building and painting models. I have an airbrush kit with compressor but Ill admit when I got it I didn't go top of the line. The compressor though looks just fine... ie I don't THINK it is the weak point. Anyway, I have noticed on lower pressure settings my airbrush tends to splatter paint and then spray a mist of it (I am trying for the latter). It will spray that fine mist for a few seconds then splatter again, then fine mist... etc etc. I am using acrylics Vallejo paints and no th
  18. AlienFrog, Thanks for the advice! When it comes time to build a base I will go that route!
  19. Oh and Hilo Hattie’s and there is a market place downtown somewhere (it’s been a decade since I last was there) that has tons of shops. Ultimately, your best friend there is a cold beer across from Waikiki beach. Expensive drinks yes, but the people watching is pretty awesome.
  20. Diamond Head is a neat hike. Check out the Royal Hawaiian hotel and grab an over priced mai tai. If you have a car, hit the north shore and see the sacred surfing spots The Beach Boys dang about. Leonard’s for a malasada (Hawaii pastry)
  21. After a long hiatus, I decided to get back into model building. I have just started a Tankbuster Stuka (I think a G Model). Revell S5270. My painting has always been lacking but we'll see how I do. Down the road I would like to make a diorama of a crew performing maintenance on an aircraft, I was thinking a BOB (Battle of Britain) theme with a Mk I Spitfire or Hurricane or even a BF 109E. Any kits you all recommend for a cutaway to the engine? How do you do those types of cutaways? I assume after market resins of the engines and some serious custom work? Any advice on kits, resins
