Mainly interested in WWII subjects. I'll build aircraft, armor, figures, and occasionally a muscle car. I've been building since 2002 and really enjoy the hobby.
  1. I'm going to the Dayton model show this weekend and I was wondering what good restaurants are in the area. Also any recommended model shops. I'm going to the USAF museum of course, as well. Also, are any ARC members planning to attend this show?
  2. Hi all, I'm planning a trip to the Kalamazoo Air Zoo. I was wondering if there are any other must see sitse in the area. Museums, hobby shops, etc.
  3. Thanks for the praise! It means alot coming from figure painters like you guys! Yes, Oil-dry is used to soak up spills in a garage or machine shop. It's essentially cat litter. And thanks for the tip on marking the edges of my name plate. I have a pretty fine tipped sharpie that I'll try this with.
  4. Here's my latest figure build. Alpine's BAR Gunner. Paints are Vallejo. The groundwork was made from Oil-dry and gravel. The base is mahogany that I turned on a lathe. Comments and critiques welcome!
  5. Stunning work as always! I'm floored by your creativity, scratchbuilding, and speed with which you complete these builds. Not to mention the diversity of builds. I bet your display case is a blast to check out. And I think the name plate looks good too. How did you go about making it? Did you use special paper? Plain ol' inkjet printer? How did you mount it to the base? Thanks for any insight you can give. Once again, awesome job on this and your other posts.
  6. Wow! Great work, Mike! Looks sooo cool! I particularly like the paint on the skull. I swear painting 25mm stuff is a black art. I'm wanting to get started on them myself. I have Games Workshops Fellowship of the Ring set. Already stripped them once. Got any tips or online tutorials you could point me too? I'd greatly appreciate it.
  7. Looks pretty good! I've wanted to get into 28mm stuff myself, particularly Lord of the Rings stuff.
  8. Great work! I like the contrast of the different camos. I bet smoking with those mittens on is a pain.
  9. Wow! The skin tone looks amazing! Well done!
  10. Thanks for the high praise. I have dabbled some with 35th scale figures and have read a ton on figure painting, but yes, this is my first large scale figure. I'm pretty happy with the results. Hope it's not just beginner's luck.
  11. Thought I'd share my first large scale figure. It's Lost Battalion Miniatures 120mm Jimmy Trimble Figure. I used Vallejo acrylics and turned and laquered the display base. Thanks for any critiques and comments!
  12. I couldn't agree more. Trying to keep up with system specs is what drove me away from PC gaming. I just wish there were strategy games like Civilization and Star Craft on the PS3.
  13. There's this book: The Wild Blue by Stephen Ambrose. It's about B-24 bomber pilots stationed in North africa and Italy. If I remember correctly it covers the Ploesti raids, too.
