Go ICM (also reboxed by Revell).  The KH kit has a number of issues, not the least of which is the giant intakes leading into a big empty fuselage, which KH tries to hide by including MiG-29 style intake doors that the Foxbat didn’t have. Given how long it took to release the F-14, as well as the surrounding drama, who knows if/when AMK will release one.  I wouldn’t hold my breath.

100% agree with everything you say.  Sometimes the Revell boxing is more expensive than the ICM original kit itself, so shop around.  Also make sure which version you want.  I like the interceptor version, which is the MiG-25PD.  That one is sometimes a bit harder to find.

  2. Nice Capture Terry

I actually like that they did this with two seams, as now I don't have to worry about sanding down and working around that detail that is mean to be at the center line.  Also, the other option for the canopy has no seam.

Personally, I began to "build" a stash right after my first job and due to lack of free time. I had the money BUT I didn't have the time so I had decided that it would be best to buy those kits that I really liked (Hasegawa 1/48 TA-4J) before they become "extinct" !!!

Fortunately, I can say that my stash is small (around 75 unbuild kits) yet, I do know other fellow scale modelers that have more than 2.000 unbuilt kits as a stash!!!

Agreed, I missed the TA-4J, but it's going to be re-popped this year or early next.  Yippie :-)

Yes, except the radome.  It doesn't have an FS number.  Use the "that looks about right" method.

There you go, two F-16 experts helping you here.  Jake is a well known F-16 expert and I'm an editor over on F-16.net.  Can confirm you and Jake are correct.  Not really a 1980's jet here.   This photos was taken after 1992 and aircraft arrived in Florida late 1989.  The photographer is a friend of mine, Mike Kopack Sr.  He might know the date the photo was taken.  Mike used to be a prolific photographer and model builder, but he's likely not on this forum.

Yes, the photos are at different angles but the proportions are pretty clear.

Note the distances from the v-stab intersection to the (corner) edge of the fuselage at various points. Note how wide the kit is at the small oval shaped vent.

Sorry Zacto, you're not corect on the bottom photo with vertical stabilizer.  I've seen photos of this exact model on facebook from a different angle, the leading edge is actually down (to pitch nose up) and the camera angle is from the side not straight down (otherwise you would  not see the side of the vertical tail).  It is an illusion that the shape does not match.  If this is what you mean.

The IFR panel is no issue for me, .. glue , fill and rescribe… simples...

But shouldn't have to for such a touted fine kit.   Remember the GWH F-15 had a few such issues and later boxings of the kit fixed that.  Now it's the best F-15 in 1/48 IMHO.

Edit: Also, I can't scribe as fine as some of the modern kits relief detail.  So not so simple for me :-)

I believe and earlier comment on this pic stated that the curve is still there, but not as pronounced. I don't know. I have the Tamiya F-14A kit (mostly built) a couple Hasegawa kits and will be getting the AMK. I don't have a real F-14 anywhere close that I can go look at. Photos are notoriously unreliable because view angle can exaggerate or diminish features. I've been going on comparisons of numerous photos and the Tamiya kit (which shows the same features I noted above). Is Tamiya wrong? My personal guess is no. Whether all of this means a darn is up to the individual. Many will not care if the AMK kits arse it "too big ". That's fine, different strokes for different folks. I'll make up my mind whether there is a problem when I have kit in hand. Then, if I think there is, I'll have to decide if it bothers me so much that I don't want to build the kit. I have more kits than I have life left, so I'm not going to worry about it too much.

Why all the fuss then? Cause it's fun to try to figure these things out. For me it's part of the  hobby.

Nuff said for now. 200, here we come (PLEASE Terry, don't end it yet).

Well said, we don't know what will be in the box in the end.  Although I've not seen evidence some of the issues have been fixed.  My main concern is the aerial refueling door seems to high in the front.  I was hopeful all the recent delays (delays after we saw the decals) were to fix these main issue.

My ultimate concern is whether I will even get an AMK F-14 from Sincere hobby or even a weapons set.

Early people were promised a weapons set, but the language lately was that all pre-orders are getting it.  Not sure anything any more.

  8. Certainly a dramatic trailer.  War movies are so hard to do very well.  The mistake Hollywood makes is to try and make a love story (which can be done well, but rarely executed), but the best is to capture the combat drama and the fellowship.

  9. Clearly the aftermarket decal simply copied the very wrong decals from the kit.  Even copied the incorrect yellow boarder around the "Stinger" wording.

If you can, you might consider scanning the decal and scaling it larger for tail code and the squadron marking.   Use a computer to scale it as width just needs a bit more while height needs a lot more.  Then print your own decal.  Printing the white part of the wings is the only part that wont work here.  But for the wings you could stencil a set of wings.

Edit: I also now see white in the eyes and mouth. :-(

Thank you brothers, for all advices :-).I checked closely every part of it ,and ...watched review of GWH's...man those two are light year one from each....I dont know what to do.I like this aircraft so much, but I can not buy GWH,it is not about money,my wife will devorce of me if I buy another expencive model kit. What a heck I will do it.Just to find better decals...this one from the box are awfull!

To save money, I bought the Pitroad F-15, it was slightly cheaper, as is a rebox of the GWH kit.  I have that and the F-15B/D kit as well, but wish Eduard made a painted instrument cockpit set for it.  When you hold a GWH F-15 in your hand, you wont be disappointed. :-)

  11. Some shelf sitters kill potentially great subjects too.

I know the ICM 1/350 König-Class was much wanted by a select few, but it was a shelf sitter and I bought one only to support that ICM had announced a 1/350 Essex at time the König hit the market.  This was before Trumpeter became the main player in 1/350.  If ICM had done the Essex class first, that would have sold well, but instead the König-Class probably made them think 1/350 in general will not sell well.

An aircraft example I can think of is the Kitty Hawk 1/48 F2H2 Banshee. Lots want this kit, but I don't think it sold well, but had the F2H-3/-4 Banshee (the later version of Banshee) come first, that would have sold well.  Announced in 2016, but has become a back burner project or dropped completely by Kitty Hawk.  Maybe I'm wrong on that?

  12. Crazy glue, yes or gator glue from Kenny Loop.

Cyanoacetate (CA) is another name for crazy glue.  Cures with humidity which is backwards.  I would not by crazy glue as a brand name, find some hobby equals that are the right consistency.

Kenny Loop's glue is good for beginners as well because it does not cure quickly as CA.

The latter - just a flask.

You can see it in the video that Zactoman posted - at 6:55.

The back story is that it was rumoured for years that the Su-34 had a full sit-down toilet in a compartment behind the crew seats.

This photo did the rounds as proof that it existed....

    02_day01_19.jpg

The photo appeared on various - mainly Chinese - websites captioned as the 'Su-34 Toilet'.

The photo is actually MINE - taken in 2002 at Star City near Moscow - showing the toilet from the MIR space station.

It was lifted from my web page here........ and became 'proof' that the Su-34 had a sit-down loo.

Thank you for something definitive.  I always figured was the case as the cockpit door half opened into the nose gear wheel bay.  Didn't think this door could be opened during flight so figured no room for a sit down toilet.

Again, for all you Su-34 builder fans on Facebook, check out our build group

My biggest issue with static is while I'm in the process of painting... primarily, removing stubborn dust particles that tend to just re-locate to some other part of the model.

You and I have the same problem it appears.   I try to discuss with local modellers and I get a look as if I'm strange for having this issue.  Let us know if you get the Tamiya brush and if it works for you.
