  1. Welcome back into the hobby. Nice subject for which to start back. Thanks for sharing.
  2. Thanks! Bacon Raygun shoots bacon or is made of bacon? :-)
  3. Which is the correct skew number for the Master 1/48 Flanker family static dischargers. Was definitely going to use the decal placement chart that comes with the GHW instructions. Will now have to carefully balance that with the kit offerings.
  4. Watch Doogs build up video of this kit, will help prevent decal issues. I used my decals from this kit for weapons on my Su-33. Worked well as the decal film have a bit of a white tone so doesn't show up on white munitions. I've purchased the Begemont set and it looks amazing. A bit pricey till you see how good it is and then you realize it isn't pricey at all considering. :-)
  5. I've heard such good things, thinking of buying a 2nd one and modifying back to the prototype Bort 902.
  6. Now I can see the photo above for whatever reason. Looking good! Better than novice skills for sure. I have the GWH version of this kit and plan on starting it in 2020.
  7. Indeed, fly fishing line is what I use as well for US aircraft. All the best on this project. Flanker families offer a unique build and not recommended for novice building :-)
  8. I can't see the image but if they are too long for you to use, you may want to grind or cut the stems shorter, but don't go overboard. This link may be helpful: https://web.ipmsusa3.org/content/sukhoi-static-dischargers Agree with this type of technique too, but the Flanker family dischargers have a distinctive shape. I use your technique for US aircraft.
  9. I know some come with a long leader for pinning. Does this need to be done here? Do you have photos?
  10. More likely that your flat coat is not dull enough for your liking or that it's going on too wet. Doubt it's because too many coats. Has this flat coat worked well for you in the past or first time using?
  11. I do the same as what Steven suggests. Although not exactly the same for building modern fighter jets as the cockpits are very visible, so what I've enjoyed is the pre-painted photo etch or decals for finishing cockpits quickly. Don't bother with all of the etch that comes in the set as well. Highly recommend reading Steve's two articles here. Get rid of kits that you don't want to start because they aren't easy to build.
  12. Nice progress, thanks for sharing, been fun to follow.
  13. PM f5guy for contact information to see if you have the same. Companies can be funny this way if they don't have a means of collecting money directly from end buyers. From a business stand point they may see desire to provide a "broken" part more than providing "extras" even if for a sale. I was trying to get wing tip pods for my 1/48 Su-34 from Kitty Hawk. Saw that some kits had it and some kits did not. There was no way to tell which kits carried it as there is no "special edition". They were willing to sell them to me, but based on principal, I didn't want to bu
  14. Yes, this is what I wanted to read. All articles I saw were from the manufacturer's stand point. Thanks!
  15. Excellent, Thanks I must say that I too dislike when people don't google basics, but I did try on this one and mostly found stuff about reminiscing.
  16. Tried Google first actually, didn't find anything about what I was looking fro and want opinions of you guys. Sorry I asked.
  17. I don't know much about the A380 other than the obvious. Question for you experts. What's happening with the existing A380s? Are airlines retiring fleets of these? What was the main reason(s) for the failure of the aircraft itself for current operators?
  18. This is the kit I'd recommend for you build: https://www.luckymodel.com/scale.aspx?item_no=KI-K48002 Has all the correct parts you'll need. I have two of these kits.
  19. That Dover museum is also neat because it's between two active runways. Too bad the weather is rarely good for outdoor photography.
  20. Outstanding job, thank you for sharing. Nice subtle weathering.
  21. Thank you for all your responses everyone. The Tamiya Laquer's, I want to try those too. I'm thinking I'll try for Mr. Color paints as many have suggested.
  22. Hello fellow Canadian's. Any Canadian hobbiest out there using MR Paint or Mr Color? If so how do you get them? Very difficult to get in Canada and many suppliers refuse to send them to Canada. I really enjoy using acrylic paints, but find they just don't hold up as well. I've cleaned the surfaces of the plastic with denatured alcohol and primed, but still not as good as lacquer and enamel paints. The paint has to be handled way too carefully even after letting the paint cure for a week. Tamiya tape sometimes pulls off acrylic paint and even repeated h
  23. Not sure what skills you have, options could include: 1) Making your own decal. Easy because it's black markings. 2) Making a vinyl mask which has become very popular 3) Commission someone to do the above two options.
  24. Steal away as this had run its course. Yes, it was the debris deflectors. This was my first Su-27 family kit. I'm so happy with the quality of the Su-27 family kits that have or are coming out, I want to build a bunch more. I'm currently working on the Su-34 and have purchased the Su-35 and Su-27UB. I want to do the J-15 and a Su-35 prototype (yet to be purchased). And lastly want a Su-30MKM kit. How cool would all these look on display :-)
