  1. I'll say it again, Beautiful job Blackdog. Here's a build you may not have seen: Mark Wakis Fw-190D-9 This model took the judges grand award at the 1982 IPMS nationals. I was there when he brought it in and set it on the table. I was blown away, then he started flipping open the little fasteners and latches that held all the hinged panels in place. Total inspiration... Check out his aviation artwork while you're at the site.
  2. Finally! We get to see some of the CF-18 part of the build! It's really looking great Pig ;) And I agree with the others, you can post as many drop tanks as you want, I'll still look...
  3. WAIT!!! Don't chop your BB! Chop the wheel well! Check the pics I posted here: Black box Su-27 cockpit, does it fit ?
  4. Nice job Tony! Post more pics!
  5. Hey Animal, If you've never used CA for a filler, go get some Now and try it!!! I prefer multiple applications of thin formula over gap-filling. Go easy on acelerator when filling and sanding, I use none on final layers. Work small areas, start sanding as soon as it's fully dried. You have about an hour after it's dried to sand before it becomes harder than the styrene. Don't apply it and leave it for another day!
  6. Better news: 1st set of castings came out flawless(cept a tiny bit of flash)!
  7. Bad news: I still haven't finished rebuilding the IRST parts. And... I was unfamiliar with the silicone that I used and ruined one of the molds trying to open it up before it was ripe. Even worse, I damaged the part pretty badly trying to get it out. So I have to fix the part and try again. All the other parts (except for a few wires on the other piece in the pic) came out undamaged! The de-misting ducting is solder and it's glued to thin aluminum on the frame. I used CA to glue it in place, but it just falls off if you look at it wrong. How can I attach it better? 5-minute epoxy? Anythi
  8. I would have to make a female tool with external details on the outside. Nah...Too much work! And including a seperate external frame is out of the question, it would have to be too thin. I plan to scribe the frames and rivet details on my model, and just paint it on... The IRST housing would have to be included with a canopy (a-la-carte) because I didn't make the vac fit the unmodified kit. I am considering offering an extra vac piece at a considerable discount to those buying a full kit. I will also consider just a vac and IRST less the frame... That will be my fallback if that part
  9. Looks great Tom! ;) Can't wait til you get the new camera!
  10. Bravo Billlll! ;) Ain't Photoshop great?!
  11. Hey Patrick, Sorry about the wait ;) ... Your throne is looking mighty fine! What scheme are you planning to do?
  12. Hey Blackdog, Looking outstanding so far! ;) What I would like to know is how did you accomplish all the steps involved with that great weathering demo without moving the model even a fraction of an inch? Do you work in a photo-studio? By the way, your photography is almost as good as your model work (outstanding)!
  13. Just kidding! I'm just a modelmaker... Check this post: Su-27 canopy kit, What's a fair price? Did I just hang myself? ;)
  14. Check this thread: how do you strip paint?
  15. Here's some close-ups of the compass, the Flux capacitor, and the final detailing that I put under the coaming.
  16. I'm most worried about this part, especially now that I've added hydraulic lines (this is where my brain surgery skills will come into play). I'm guessing I'll break the original part during demolding. Hope it works the first time.
  17. Canopy frame parts are ready for molding! But I'm still redoing the IRST ball... (No, it's not going to rotate!) Any mold making advice is welcome!!!
  18. Decals? (Huh?) Go take a look at Marks work(Model Mob). I was blown away when I read he used decals. The chipping on the Tigercat , especially around the cowlings looks to be the best I've ever seen... AMT Tigercat, ...1/48 Nightfighter Hasegawa Corsair, ...1/48 Nightfighter. Hasegawa Corsair, ...in 1/48th scale Follow his link to the decal site. I've always painted them on myself. I use a mix of Testors chrome, white and black ((or gray)enough to slightly gray it), and dullcoat (enough to semi-gloss the mix). I think I'll pick-up a sheet of those decals though.
  19. :P Outstanding!!! That chipping is all decal? I'm blown away! :)
  20. Great job Blackdog! This is turning out to be one helluva build
